ALS monitoring in action!
The monitoring process commences with a courtesy call at the Division Office with ASDS, Carmel Meris. The monitoring session involving Michelle C. Mejia and Jeffrey F. Florendo, Senior Education Program Specialists of the Bureau of Alternative Education, along with Sir Alfredo Lanas, the Regional ALS Focal Person assisted by the EPS II Jojo S. Ambros and EPS II Rheineck M. Caparas, was conducted to evaluate and enhance the implementation of the Alternative Learning System (ALS) programs in Baguio. It is to ensure that the ALS programs identify areas for improvement and effectively address the educational needs of out-of-school youth and adults.
Several ALS learning centers across Baguio observe classroom activities, interact with learners and facilitators, and assess the learning environment. Continued collaboration and targeted interventions are essential to achieving the goals of the ALS and ensuring that it meets the educational needs of its diverse learners.
A big thanks to School Heads - Helen C. Acop, Soledad Copsiyan, and Hermoso Bunnol for your steadfast support of the ALS program.

Starting the school year 2024-2025, a seminar workshop was organized to help ALS teachers enhance their learning sessions for their learners. The three-day seminar was facilitated by the energetic EPSA Rheineck Caparas, EPSA Jojo Ambros, and ALS teacher Wilfredo Capuyan.
On the first day, the workshop began with a short opening program featuring a message from Juliet Sannad, the CID Chief Education Supervisor and supportive mother of ALS. She began by asking the teachers about their one-month uninterrupted vacation. CID Chief Sannad expressed her appreciation for the well-organized seminar workshop, which had been reviewed and finalized during the last ALS staff meeting on July 2, 2024, which she attended online. She praised the cooperation among ALS teachers and thanked them for their dedication to their work.
CID Chief Sannad emphasized the importance of valuing relationships, respecting each other, and recognizing each other's strengths, particularly the skills of the EPSAs and ALS teachers. She introduced the acronym KSA, which stands for Knowledge, Skills, and Attitude. She encouraged everyone to continue participating in LAC sessions, workshops, and trainings to stay informed and provide technical assistance to others. She acknowledged that ALS teachers already possess the necessary skills for their learners and highlighted the significance of having the right attitude. She commended the teachers for their commitment to their work, often going above and beyond.
In her message, CID Chief Sannad also stressed the importance of teaching ALS learners to respect others and instilling values that they might not yet know. She concluded by encouraging everyone to continue learning and seeking the right information, especially as they engage with the community.
The three-day seminar workshop wouldn't have been possible without the energetic contributions of Sir Sydney Shan M. Cariรฑo, EPS of Inclusive Education; Sir Christopher David G. Oliva, Project Development Officer II - LRMS; EPSA Rheineck Caparas; EPSA Jojo S. Ambros; and ALS teachers Michaelle T. Saganib, Jannette J. Abat, Alpha R. Taca, and Edilberta M. Ambros. Thank you for sharing your expertise.

IT'S THE TIME OF THE YEAR AGAIN FOR LITERACY MAPPING!
The CID- Alternative Learning System (ALS) of Schools Division Office of Baguio City is currently conducting Literacy Mapping with the assistance of the Punongbarangays and Barangay Kagawads in charge of Education at Quirino Hill (West, East, Middle and Lower) and Ambiong areas. This mapping aims to identify prospective learners in the city.
The ALS Literacy Mapping is a crucial activity that enables the local government to assess the educational needs of the community and design appropriate interventions to address these needs. With the help of the Barangay Kagawad in charge of Education, the mapping was able to cover the identified barangays in Baguio City.
The mapping was done through a house-to-house visit to identify the location of ALS learners. The team also conducted interviews with the learners to determine their educational background, reasons for dropping out of school, and their motivations for enrolling in the ALS program. The information gathered will be used to develop strategies to improve the ALS program and to provide learners with better opportunities for learning.
The ALS Literacy Mapping is a collaborative effort between the Schools Division Office of Baguio City and the Barangay Kagawad in charge of Education. This partnership is critical in ensuring that the ALS program is implemented effectively and efficiently. By working together, they can identify the needs of the community and design appropriate interventions to address these needs.
