LOOK | As he continues to maintain good relations with the AFP, in connection with his peace advocacy across Mindanao, Ariel Hernandez together with Gov. Jim Hataman Salliman, attended the "Change of Command Ceremony" on Friday, January 20, 2023 at the Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) Gymnasium, Camp Don Basilio Navaro, Calarian, Zamboanga City.

Newly- appointed Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Gen. Andres C. Centino PA, served as the presiding officer, MGen Arturo Rojas handed command over to MGen Roy M. Galido PA. Hernandez also paid a courtesy call for Gen. Centino.

LOOK | Ariel Hernandez continues to explore possible partnerships with International Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in a bid to advance the gains of the Department of National Defense (DND) in the security sector's reforms--needed to further promote democracy in our country

Officials from the DND, led by officer in charge Senior Usec Jose Faustino Jr. met with Mr. Sam Chittick, the Asia Foundation's representative for Philippines, and Mr. Ariel Ayi Hernandez to discuss the NGOs' roles in acting as a third-party feedback mechanism to provide objective observations and recommendations to the DND in order to sustain the country's efforts for peace and democracy.

BASILAN WON THE 2022 GALING POOK AWARDS !!!

Advancing and Sustaining Good Governance and Community Action towards Resilience and Empowerment (AS2G CARE) Program in Basilan bagged the 2022 GALING POOK AWARDS as one of the Top 10 Outstanding Local Governance Programs in the Philippines. Basilan was among the 18 LGU finalists out from the 196 contenders.

The award was received by the Basilan Provincial Governor Jim Hataman Salliman who also did the presentation of the program. He was accompanied by his wife, Anisalam Datumanong Salliman, together with Ariel Hernandez who helped designed and shepherd the successful implementation of the program.

AS2G CARE is a collaborative effort of the Provincial Government of Basilan and Balay Mindanaw, in partnership with the various stakeholders.

Also attending the ceremony was a team from Basilan led by Mr. Manny Muarip, the Provincial Administrator, Mr. Richard Rejas, the Program Manager of Balay Mindanaw, Mr. Gerry Bulatao, Chairperson of Balay Mindanaw Foundation Inc. and Ms. Nurhati Tangging, the Provincial Coordinator of the Program.

Graced by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, the awarding ceremony was held at the Malacañang Palace on Tuesday (Nov. 22, 2022). The Galing Pook awards was established in October 21, 1993 recognizing excellent and innovative local government programs.

LOOK | As head secretariat of the National Task Force for the Disbandment of Private Armed Groups (NTF DPAG), Ariel Hernandez attended the 1st oversight committee meeting which was conducted at the Camp Crame Multipurpose Center under the leadership of DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos.

Learning from the knowledge of people who toiled very hard to establish the peace that we have today...Former panel chairs of Government of the Philippines (GPH), former Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita, Ambassador Rafael E. Seguis, Ma'am Inday Santiago, and Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) Parliament Member Nabil Tan at the closing of the Peace Month festivities with Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU).

Ariel Ayi Hernandez, Governor Hadjiman Hataman Salliman and the Provincial Local Government of Basilan graced the Project AS2G CARE by the Balay Mindanaw Foundation, Inc. as well as the Project CIRCLE of The Asia Foundation, Inc. and Balay Mindanaw—aimed at empowering vulnerable sectors and communities to combat violent extremism in the province.

Ambassador for Counter Terrorism of Australia Ambassador Roger Noble and Embassy Officials were very happy and impressed how the program succeeded in transforming the Former Abu Sayaff Group of fighters into productive citizens and cited the Basilan initiative as a model for other countries with problems on violent extremism.

Local stakeholders, including Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, the Religious Sector, and various representatives from armed conflict-inflicted communities in Basilan also joined the series of dialogue.

LOOK | Ariel Hernandez continues to work with Basilan in enhancing the province's implementation of peace and security.

Hernandez gave a briefing on the Basilan peace and security roadmap during the meeting with OIC Secretary of National Defense Jose Faustino, along with Undersecretary Jojo Gacal and Governor Jim Hataman of Basilan, in order to safeguard the gains of peace and allow the province to focus on economic development and the provision of social services.

Since 2016, Hernandez has served as Governor Hataman's peace and security advisor.

LOOK | Ariel Hernandez, highlighted the need for the government to prioritize the welfare of the people amid the diplomatic tension involving the United States (US), China, and Taiwan.

During a discussion with former Cagayan de Oro Mayor Oscar S. Moreno, in a radio program dubbed "Gikan sa Katawhan, Ibalik sa Katawhan," Hernandez pointed out the constant effects of war among nations and their people.

War could destroy not only the people's inner peace, he said, but also their livelihood, the country's socio-economic stability and among others.

"Beneath the theater of war, ang kasakit, kaguol, ang pagkamatay ug ang pagkaguba sa mga properidad, lalum kaayo na epekto sa mga tao na apekdato sa kagubot. Lawum kaayo." he said.

Thus, Hernandez and Moreno vowed to keeping their advocacies to promote long lasting and genuine peace in Mindanao, even outside the limelight of politics.

Hernandez cited the history of Vietnam during its 1968-1979 civil war with China, unlike the Philippines, it has quickly recovered from the war, economically speaking.
