Learning Ladder Cebu Children's House, Inc.
We are offering a fun learning experience that will foster your child's love for learning. Learning Ladder Cebu Children's House, Inc.
is established to give equal opportunity to children with special needs’ access to education. The school aims to foster a caring environment for all children hence our slogan, “where every child is exceptional.” We mainstream children with special needs and we train typically developing kids to accept every child without any prejudice nor biases. Every child is equal in the quest for learning and we cherish the glow in their eyes when they discover the joy and beauty of learning.

Last week I posted “Don’t try this at home” and many people said that saying “say” works!
And well, yes- this can get a child to say a word. I do this often when working on articulation - because that’s focusing on the sounds a child makes. But when we are working on supporting communication development - saying “say” can be confusing for gestalt language processors AND creates prompt dependency.
I’d much rather just say the word (ie “car”) and see if the child can learn the word naturally and ideally use it in the future authentically rather than being prompted. ❤️
I hear a lot of parents claim their child “grew out” of their Autism…. And well that’s not really a thing if they were truly Autistic to start with. If you are Autistic, you will always be Autistic - BUT Autistic people can change over time!
✅ Autistic children can learn coping skills which allows them to become and stay regulated for longer periods of time as well as access accommodations to support them and allow them to be successful.
✅ Autistic kids make progress. Progress can look a lot of different ways depending on the person - for some, it’s rapid, for others it can be slow, and for many it can fluctuate
✅ Autistic kids, just like most kids, can mature naturally with age.
❌ Many Autistic kids learn how to mask in an attempt to meet neurotypical expectations. They are often taught this skill directly but can also learn to mask by observation. While I don’t support teaching masking, and DO support directly teaching kids what masking is and the impacts of masking - the result of autistic people masking is often others thinking they are NOT Autistic, when in fact, they are!

“Teacher, my child doesn’t speak well yet but s/he knows the letters, shapes, and can count”
I must have gotten this message 3x already.
Conversing with your children and practicing USEFUL and PRACTICAL words they NEED everyday is way, way, waaaay more important than teaching “academic concepts”
What use are the letters if your child can’t ask for help to open something, go to the toilet, describe pictures, or have a regular conversation?
is going to be my new hashtag because parents are getting fixated on making sure their children learn these things which have no purpose yet to their daily lives.
Have meaningful conversations, practice the use of words which make daily life easier, focus on what’s really important because promise. .
Anyone can be a teacher but it takes dedication, hard work and passion to be a good one. May you continue to nurture young minds and be their inspiration to do better everyday. Happy Teacher’s Day!
Congratulations to our Little Gymnast, Audrey Calliope Emmanuelle V. Fernandez, for bagging 5 medals in the recently concluded 1st Mindanao-Wide Gymnastics Open Competition held in Davao City. We are proud of you!
