The Philippine Independence Day is not just a historical milestone; it is a call to action. It reminds us of our responsibility to uphold the principles of democracy, justice, and equality. It calls us to be active participants in shaping our nation's future, to ensure that the rights and freedoms we hold dear are preserved for future generations. It is a reminder that each of us has a role to play in building a more just, inclusive, and prosperous society.
Today, we honor our past, celebrate our present, and commit to a brighter future. We remember that the essence of independence is not just in the freedom from foreign rule but in the freedom to live with dignity, the freedom to dream, and the freedom to build a better tomorrow for all Filipinos.
Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! May our nation continue to thrive, united in spirit, and steadfast in our pursuit of a truly free and just society.

Today, we honor and acknowledge the invaluable contributions of Filipino workers, both within our country and across the globe, to the social and economic advancement of our nation. Rooted in the historical struggles for improved labor conditions and equitable treatment, Labor Day holds significant importance. The Student Power Party remains steadfast in solidarity with the ongoing battles encountered by the labor force, advocating for reforms that champion social justice and equality.
Let us foster a profound appreciation for the privileges we enjoy and uphold the essence of the movement's ideals. Labor Day serves as a call for unity, urging us to persist in our efforts to enhance the well-being of all Filipinos.

In the past two elections, not a single candidate from the STUDENT POWER PARTY (SPP) has been elected into office, prompting the party to self-reflect and recalibrate. Since our inception in 1998, we have been producing genuinely Empowered Carolinians to the council and have had many moments of triumph in its elections. But this year, considering the current internal dynamics of the party, we have decided to abstain from participating in the upcoming election. We found that it is prudent for us to instead focus our efforts on dealing with internal matters at hand.
Despite this unfortunate reality for our socio-political organization, we have strived, and are continuing to strive to be a force for student empowerment. It is innate to SPP to truly advocate for the rights of the studentryโquality student leaders adept with the principle of putting the student body first above their personal interests. In the same manner, we believe that producing such student leaders takes time and careful deliberation.
The Student Power Party has always believed in the strength of the empowered to make a difference. Though this decision may seem unprecedented, and done at the most crucial time of upholding student democracy, rest assured that the party stays true to its purpose of advocating and fighting for studentsโ rights in our own ways. Moreover, we will not be sitting idly as we delegate the Council seats to the other political powers. We will continue to demand transparency, accountability, and service, in line with our own core values. We will not tolerate any negligence and incompetence of SSC officers, and criticize any shortcomings that might otherwise should have been avoidable. This we expect from quality officers hoping to give quality service.
Pag sulti og baruganan, gahum sa tinun-an!
STATEMENT REGARDING THE GADJA AND DISKWENTOFEST ISSUE
The recent issue surrounding the conflicting events of GADJA and Diskwentofest within the University of San Carlos has reached a boiling point, demanding immediate and resolute action from all parties involved. The Student Power Party refuses to stand idly by while the interests of the student body are jeopardized.
It is abundantly clear that the current state of affairs is not only detrimental to the reputation of our university but also undermines the trust and confidence of the student body in their elected representatives. The failure to resolve these conflicts in a timely and effective manner reflects poorly on the leadership and integrity of the student council, leaving us with no choice but to speak out.
It is imperative that all parties involved set aside their differences and prioritize the greater good of the university community. The Student Power Party calls for an immediate cessation of political maneuvering and a genuine commitment to finding a resolution that serves the best interests of all Carolinians.
The Student Power Party stands unwavering in its commitment to upholding the values of integrity, transparency, and student empowerment within the University of San Carlos. We call upon all students to join us in demanding accountability, transparency, and unity from our elected representatives. Let us work towards a brighter future for our university community, free from the shadow of political discord and personal agendas.
The Student Power Party condemns in the strongest possible terms the lack of accountability, transparency, and unity displayed by the council in addressing these critical issues. The reckless pursuit of personal interests at the expense of the student body's welfare is unacceptable and undermines the very purpose of student governance.

This month, as we gather to honor and celebrate the empowered women across the globe, let us remember that babae ka, hindi babae lang. This powerful reminder encapsulates the multifaceted essence of womanhood, acknowledging that being a woman is not defined by one aspect alone but encompasses a multitude of identities, roles, and strengths.
In recognizing the diverse experiences and contributions of women, we amplify their voices and uplift their stories. Empowerment lies in embracing the complexity of womanhood and celebrating the unique qualities that each woman brings to the table. It is about acknowledging the struggles, triumphs, and resilience of women from all walks of life.
As we celebrate these extraordinary individuals, let us reaffirm our commitment to fostering an inclusive society where every woman is valued, respected, and given equal opportunities to thrive. Together, we can continue to break barriers, challenge stereotypes, and pave the way for a future where all women can shine brightly.

On this day in 1998, the Student Power Party was established as one of the prominent political parties within the University of San Carlos. Since its inception, the sociopolitical organization championed student empowerment and advocated innumerable causes that are relevant within the confines of the university and beyond.
Today, we not only celebrate its founding anniversary but also the causes it has championed over the years, as well as the empowered Carolinians who fought for them.
However, the trajectory of this liberal political party has been marked by both peaks and valleys. But as eloquently stated by Charles Eden Perales:
โThrough adversity, SPP continues.
In our lowest, SPP thrives.
In our weakest, SPP persists.
Nothing is more powerful than the determination to serve and make a change.โ

STUDENT POWER PARTY OPPOSES USC SSC OSFA REGISTRATION
Contrary to the Student Power Partyโs vote of an OSFA-registered USC Supreme Student Council (USC SSC) in the last term, the Party currently votes to OPPOSE the USC SSC with the USC Office of Student Formation and Activities (OSFA). With the established terms and conditions between the USC SSC and OSFA during the previous administration, it was formerly in the Partyโs belief that there would have been a development of a cooperative relationship between the two parties. However, it is clear that the apparent unresponsiveness of OSFA has still led to unsettled various issues and concerns from the student body.
As a student-led Council, comprised of elected representatives chosen by and for the student body, the USC SSC is intended to function as a forum where students can express their concerns, advocate for their needs, and promote a culture of transparency and accountability within the university community. Registering with OSFA, in our view, erodes the fundamental principles of student rights and independence, primarily because it introduces excessive bureaucracies and administrative constraints that hinder the autonomy of the student council. These gratuitous bureaucracies and policies of OSFA can stifle the SSC's ability to operate independently and advocate effectively for student interests.
With this, should the USC SSC decide not to register with OSFA, the Student Power Party calls for a concrete action plan moving forward from the USC SSC, along with the student organizations of the University of San Carlos, to uphold and safeguard the rights of the students and its autonomy to productively function as the representatives of the Carolinian student body.
The Student Power Party asserts that a strong, unrestrained, and autonomous Supreme Student Council is most beneficial for the student body, and we will remain unwavering in our commitment to championing the rights of the students.
DISCLAIMER: The perspectives and viewpoints held by the individual members of the Student Power Party are of their own, and do not reflect the views or positions of any other organizations they may represent or are affiliated with.

STUDENT POWER PARTY SAYS NO TO TOFI!
The Student Power Party strongly opposes the Tuition and Other Fees Increase (TOFI) for the coming academic year 2023-2024.
Last April 2023, the USC Administration proposed a 5% tuition fee increase and insisted on its necessity to cover the projected expenditures for the salary increase of the faculty and staff. Since then, the USC Supreme Student Council (USC SSC), together with the different student councils, student organizations, and publications have worked together to abolish the proposed TOFI by initiating a survey last April with 1,487 out of the 1,505 (98.8%) of the respondents saying that they are not in favor of TOFI, as well as crafting a unified statement to collectively assert our calls against TOFI last July 3. Last July 17, the USC SSC invited all Carolinians to a protest and press conference as part of the on-going campaign. On this same day, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) mentioned that the universityโs administration had not submitted the studentsโ position papers opposing TOFI despite their promises. Moreover, it was revealed that the administration proposed an alarming 6.95% tuition increase, contrary to the announced 5% rate last April. The pressure to amplify the studentsโ calls against TOFI has only escalated then and the fight for accessible education continues.
With this, the Student Power Party stands in solidarity with the USC SSC, along with other student organizations, in their campaign to block the proposed 6.95% tuition hike for the upcoming academic year 2023-2024. Oneโs pursuit of education should never be hindered by financial constraints. Education is a fundamental right that should serve as a vehicle for equal opportunities. Imposing an increase on tuition fees only runs against this ideal, as it makes education less accessible to students. As an organization that is grounded by the principles of transparency and accountability, the Student Power Party necessitates the call for justification and transparency in the USC Administrationโs grounds for the recently revealed 6.95% tuition hike. Instead of solely relying on tuition fees to increase the salary of the faculty and staff, we are urging the administration to look into alternative solutions in addressing financial challenges before burdening the students with higher fees.
We stand firm in fighting for the rights of our fellow Carolinians, and will actively exhaust harmonious means with the USC SSC and other student organizations in upholding our essential right to quality, safe, and accessible education.
