The Al Qalam Institute of the Ateneo de Davao University will be collaborating with its partners from Lisbon, Portugal to organize a Southeast Asia Conference in Davao City this September 2024. Details of the conference will be announced very soon.

This summit will be a gathering of 80-100 passionate advocates of Interreligious Dialogue (IRD) and Intercultural Dialogue (ICD) in atleast five (5) countries in Southeast Asia.

To help in organizing this conference, the Institute is looking for 𝐕𝐎𝐋𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐄𝐑𝐒 who will be willing to serve in the different committees of the organizing team prior, during and after the conference.

Two (2) leaders of the youth-serving Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Mindanaoan Youth Development Center (MYDC), Inc. were invited by the Sangguniang Kabataan Council of Barangay Bunawan in Davao City as resource speakers for their Katipunan ng Kabataan (KK) Assembly on April 13, 2024 (Saturday) at the Barangay Bunawan Gym.

The SK Bunawan Council headed by the SK Chairperson, Hon. Ronalene M. Silverio tapped MYDC Board Chairperson Kenny Lloyd Angon who serves as Deputy Executive Director of the Al Qalam Institute of Ateneo de Davao University to discuss Becoming Effective Youth Leaders

On the other hand, Board Member Evadyne May Dela Cerna who is also a Supervising Program Coordinator of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) primarily working in the Davao Youth Development Office (DCYDO) was requested to discuss the Significant Role of the Katipunan ng Kabataan (KK).

Engaging the Mindanaoan Youth through KK Assemblies and other youth consultation programs is under the MYDC's Key Program on Youth Empowerment and Good Governance.

Assistant Secretary Bianca Patrice Go took her oath as the new Commissioner Representing Mindanao in the National Youth Commission on March 26, 2024 at the NYC Central Office, Quezon City after Former Commissioner Lexee Dayanghirang completed her 3-year term.

The ceremony was officiated by NYC Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer Undersecretary Ronald Cardema and was witnessed by Congresswoman Ducielle Marie Cardema and Commissioner-at-Large ASec. Laurence Diestro.

The Mindanaoan Youth Development Center, Inc. welcomes this development which is a manifestation of the commitment to ensuring the representation of the Mindanaoan Youth in the Commission.

The MYDC Inc., its network organizations and volunteers are hopeful to meet Commissioner Bianca soon and engage her in our different initiatives for the welfare of the MindaYouth!

Whenever the Mindanaoan Youth Development Center, Inc. is invited to share in various capacity building activities for young people like Leadership Training, Team Building Activities, Katipunan ng Kabataan (KK) Assemblies and others, the MYDC Inc. through Board Chairperson and Co-Founder Kenny Lloyd Angon anchors its presentation to the 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 "𝗔𝗽𝗶𝗹-𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗹".

It is the approach of the organization to encourage young people from diverse background to explore volunteerism engagements by starting with 𝙥𝙖𝙜-𝙖𝙥𝙞𝙡 𝙖𝙥𝙞𝙡 (taking part) in different activities in schools and communities where they can learn new things and be exposed to different advocacies.

By participating in these events, their eyes are opened to alot of opportunities for them to gain knowledge, and develop values and skills especially interpersonal and communication, to meet new people who can become their stakeholders in future collaborations and to strengthen their bond and camaraderie.

Being exposed to these engagements will contribute to their "𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗹" to also do their part and go the extra mile for the advocacy/ies which is/are close their heart which can benefit their communities.

The growth from 𝗔𝗽𝗶𝗹 to 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗹 was highlighted in the MYDC's presentation during the KK Assembly of Barangay Maa, Davao City organized by the Sangguniang Kabataan - Brgy. Ma-a headed by SK Chairperson Hon. Jericho Emphasis last March 10, 2024 at Escoda Gem Village Covered Court.

𝗗𝗔𝗚𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗚 𝗦𝗔𝗟𝗔𝗠𝗔𝗧 𝗦𝗔 𝗜𝗠𝗢𝗡𝗚 𝗣𝗔𝗚𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗕𝗜𝗦𝗬𝗢 𝗦𝗔 𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗧𝗛, 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠. 𝗟𝗘𝗫𝗘𝗘!

On March 12, 2024, the Presidential Communications Office released a list of new appointees of the President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. including the appointment of a new Commissioner Representing Mindanao in the National Youth Commission.

Section 5 of the Republic Act 8044 states that the chairman and the appointed commissioners shall serve for term of three (3) years; with reappointment for another term. As much as we want her to continue working as the voice for the Mindanaoan Youth, the term of Assistant Secretary / Commissioner Alexa Danielle "Lexee" Dayanghirang, Commissioner Representing Mindanao which started on November 24, 2020 (three years and four months) is unfortunately nearing its end. She also confirmed this in one of her latest posts in her FB account.

William P. Fuller Fellowship in Peacebuilding

📍Program Dates: In person October 12 to October 26, 2024, additional virtual seminars August to September.

📍Study Tour and Peacebuilding Exchange: 12 days in the San Francisco Bay Area and Washington, D.C. area: The Study Tour and Peacebuilding Exchange is the heart of the program. Fellows gain exposure to leading peacebuilding experts, initiatives, and institutions—including non-government organizations, academic centers, and grassroots civil society groups.

📍Professional Development Award: A flexible $5,000 USD grant to support each fellow’s individually tailored project, advance professional goals, or further their work in the peacebuilding arena.

Eligibility Criteria
📍 Under 40 years old (at the time of application and workshop)
📍Citizen of one of the following countries or regions: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pacific Islands, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vietnam
📍Passionate about contributing to peacebuilding in the Asia-Pacific region through research and/or practice
📍Fluent in written and spoken English
📍Eager to build a professional network through collaboration with others in the field
📍Demonstrated leadership capacity and at least 3 years of professional experience
📍Must be driven to complete self-directed coursework and professional project plan.
📍Must be able to commit to all program dates
