Last August 31, 2023 was the culminating part of the “Climate Change Locally led Adaptation, Mitigation, and Plastic Solutions” or CLAMPS project, where fisherfolks and volunteers with the big support of the LGU of Municipality of Quezon have conducted a clean up drive in the different coastal areas in the Municipality of Quezon, Palawan.
The project aims to significantly reverse the use and disposal of plastics among coastal communities and to support the seaweed industry by introducing the concept of bioplastics as a byproduct of seaweed farming and an alternative to plastics. Lastly, it provides a means by which redress can be sought by coastal and rural communities adversely affected by climate change and plastic pollution, particularly those coastal communities affected by plastic and microplastic contamination in the oceans from which they source their livelihoods.
Last August 30, 2023, the Network Empowering Transformative Societies (NETS Inc.), in partnership with Purple Hearts PH and with the support of the US Embassy Philippines, engaged with the fisherfolks and seaweed farmer of Quezon, Palawan, environmental advocates of Municipality of Baloi, representatives from DENR and the Philippine Council for Agriculture Fisheries (PCAF) Palawan provincial office for Project CLAMP or “Climate Change Locally led Adaptation, Mitigation, and Plastic Solutions”.
The first part of the project was held via hybrid webinar with guest speakers: Mardy R. Montaño and A/Prof. Denxybel Montinola who shared their expertise on the importance of in the campaign to mitigate and .
The organization is thankful to the funders and for the support of the LGU of Municipality of Quezon, Palawan and Municipality of Baloi, Lanao del Norte, Baloi Tourism and Baloi Local Youth Development Office.

The Climate Change Commission joins the observance of National Indigenous People’s Day with the theme "Indigenous youth as agents of change for self-determination.”
The indigenous youth of today have become key players in exercising their right to self-determination by making their own decisions and carrying them out meaningfully and culturally appropriate. They are utilizing innovative technologies and developing new skills to offer solutions for a more sustainable planet.
August 9 was declared National Indigenous People’s Day Republic Act No. 10689, which was passed in 2015. It coincides with the UN’s International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples.
