Delving into a discussion regarding the Safe Spaces Act, student leaders of Iloilo Science and Technology University campuses came together for a seminar on gender-based violence, last June 10, 2024, at the university’s TLE Center.
With the knowledge of Dr. Emily A. Dela Cruz, director of the university’s gender center, student leaders were enlightened on the different matters regarding the topic.
Meanwhile, the informative event on the morning was followed by the Student Republic (SR) Federation Election with Rosie Jill P. Cubita, chairperson of Student Republic COMELEC commencing the election through the reading of rules and guidelines.
This was followed by an election of the student regent in which Angel Tibubos representing the Miag-ao Campus garnered 29 votes making her the new student regent. Coming close with 25 votes is Milagros Therese Tutanes from the Iloilo City campus who became the new Vice President for Administration and Finance, then Mery Cris Elaran as Vice President for Academic Areas, Marl Lawrence Lopez as Vice President for External Affairs and Noel Cadornigara as Vice President for Local Governance, from Dumangas campus, Barotac Nuevo campus and Leon Campus respectively.
Furthermore, the succeeding Executive Secretary Rhonali Clarisse Amador, Recording Secretary Jessar Robete, Auditor Frittz Louie Aranador, Business Manager Dave Suarez joined the list of officers with the different chairpersons of various departments, namely, Hannah Giezhelle for Health, Allija Balibol for Sports, Culture, and Arts, Mary Joy Parcon for Environment and Natural Resources, John Ray Flor for Public Information and Communication, Warren Obo for Justice and Zindrek Cartagena for Student Welfare and Development.
After taking their oath, Dr. Gabriel M. Salistre, Jr., SUC President III, inducted the officers and offered words of challenge to them.
The event concluded with a remark from Dr. Corazon C. Corbal, vice president for Academic Affairs.
