DINAGYANG CHAMPIONS TOURISM EVENT

Iloilo City's Dinagyang Festival 2020 bested other festivals in this year's ATOP Tourism Event by grabbing the title "Best Tourism Festival".

In a post, Mayor Jerry Treñas congratulated Iloilo Festival Foundation Inc. (IFFI) for bringing festivity and proclamation of faith to the next level.

Dinagyang Festival 2020 was the last to be held face to face months before the entire country was placed under quarantine due to the outbreak of the CoViD-19 pandemic.

COCA-COLA PLANT IN ILOILO SUSPENDS OPERATIONS

The plant of the famed soft drinks in Pavia, Iloilo has suspended their bottling operations due to a lack of bottlers grade sugar, the plant said in a statement posted at their gate.

Previous bottling plants in the country also suspended their operations citing the same issues.

RELIEVING JARO'S PAST

In a post by Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, Saturday, Architect and Urban Planner Paulo Alcazaren suggested the idea of bringing back the Bamboo Eiffel Tower in Jaro Plaza. This is after various sectors recommended the transfers of the Jaro Gym and offices outside of Jaro Plaza.

The Bamboo Eiffel Tower in Jaro was built during the late 19th Century to celebrate the inauguration of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France but was later brought down.

Jaro Plaza is now undergoing rehabilitation and redevelopment, which Alcazaren facilitates. The rehabilitation and redevelopment program aims to bring back more open spaces and historical significance to the public.

GRAB CAR IS COMING TO THE CITY OF LOVE!

During the PCCI - Iloilo Chapter Conference at Courtyard by Marriott Iloilo, Grab PH head Ms. Grace Vera Cruz announced that they are bringing the car booking services of the company to Iloilo City.

Grab Car is a car-booking app that let you hire a private licensed chauffeur to get you to your desired destination. The app also provides an opportunity for private car owners to make some earnings out of their vehicles.

SM STRATA'S TOWER 1 TO BE FINISHED?

For the past few days, rumors have been circulating that SM has already started doing initial work to bring the delayed SM Strata tower 1 into reality. SM Strata tower 2 has already been operational since last year while tower 1 has been put on hold because of some undetermined reasons.

With those rumors, have you ever wondered what would SM Strata look like if tower 2 is to be accompanied by tower 1? Well, we did a little photo manipulation to give you a perspective of what would the twins look like in reality.

ROBINSONS CYBERGATE TOWER 1&2

Robinson's Cybergate Tower 2 in Pavia, Iloilo has surpassed the height of Cybergate Tower 1. The latter has 8 floors (including a rooftop) and is already operational where Telus Philippines is one of its tenants.

Tower 2 is seen to have already been partly installed with windows and might be operational by late 2022 or early next year. These towers are the tallest of their kind on the whole island of Panay (excluding Iloilo City). Taller than these two, Cybergate Tower 3, will also rise right beside Tower 2.

High demands for office spaces had prompted a lot of investors to scatter leasable buildings throughout the Metro, in return creating a lot of job opportunities.

SM Prime Holdings will be redeveloping Iloilo Central Market after no one challenges their proposal. Iloilo City mayor gave the property developer the notice of award last July 27.

Atty. Quintin Magisco of Iloilo City's PPPC confirms that there is none who submitted a challenge against the proposal of SM Prime Holdings to develop the markets.

SM Prime Holdings, a subsidiary of SM Investment Corps. will be responsible for developing the markets and controlling parts of it in terms of leasing.

Aside from Iloilo City Central Market, the said property developer will also oversee the redevelopment of Iloilo City Terminal Market.

A more picturesque Calle Real soon.

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas on Monday said that Iloilo City is partnering with MORE Power and Task Force PUGI, the partnership is eyeing an underground distribution system in Calle Real.

The project aims to beautify the streets of Calle Real by removing wires from posts and placing them underground. Also, according to the mayor, "this will help level up and promote tourism in the metro".

THE HIDDEN GEM OF IGBARAS

The Tarugan Falls can be found in Igbaras, Iloilo, and in just 30 minutes of travel from Igbaras' town proper, you will reach the magnificent falls.

The falls is said to be Panay's highest, positioned on the mountains of the Kiput Area.

"KURUKAPE", a local coffee shop opens its newest branch at SM City Iloilo, July 15, 2022.

The coffee shop is located at South Point, SM City Iloilo, and is serving freshly brewed coffee everyday.

The word "Kuru" is a form of an affix to the word "Kape"=Coffee, combined them, and you'll be getting a compound word that would describe what you've done or will be doing. The said affix is usually limited to words starting with the letter K.

For example, if used in a sentence:

"Where are you going?"

Hiligaynon:
"Ma Kurukape sa SM ah...hehe"

English:
"I will be drinking some coffee at SM 😋"

Kurukape also serves coffee at Molo Mansion, Molo, Iloilo City.

The newly formed state university in Northern Iloilo will offer BS Nursing programs. This is after the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) lifted a moratorium that limits Colleges and Universities to offer Nursing programs.

According to an interview with Dr. Bobby Gerardo (University President) made by Bombo Radyo Iloilo, they are already discussing offering the said program. Northern Iloilo State University aims to finish processing the program's opening in under a year.

The University President also stated that there are surveys that show the interest of Iloilo's 5th District constituent in the program.

CITY OF LOVE or CITY OF PINES?

Photos of a foggy morning in Iloilo City scattered throughout social media wowed Ilonggos. It is not usual for Iloilo City to be covered with thick fog every morning. That is why a lot of Ilonggos were amazed by this rare phenomenon.

Ilonggos started comparing the experience as if they were in Tagaytay or Baguio City.

Nearby bodies of water, topography, and wind conditions can be factored-in in an occurrence of fog.

A Greek-style fast food chain opens its doors to Ilonggos last July 9, 2022. Oh My Greek serves traditional comfort food from the Mediterranean country of Greece to those craving something new in their taste buds.

Iloilo City eyes the possibility of opening the Dinagyang Festival to the public in a "Face to Face" setting next year.

Mayor Jerry Treñas announced this evening that the Iloilo Festivals Foundation, Inc. (IFFI) is studying the possibility of a Face to Face Dinagyang Festival.

According to Treñas, this is for a much more leveled-up show of devotion towards Señor Sto. Niño this 2023.

The last Face to Face Dinagyang Festival was in 2020, a few months before the country was put into lockdown brought by the CoViD-19 Pandemic. The last two years of the festival were held virtually.
