BSU CAH Department of Arts and Communication

The Department of Arts and Communication (DAC) conducted a seminar-workshop on campus paper publication and radio production for the campus journalists of Guinaoang National High School (GNHS) on November 23, 2023.

The one-day seminar-workshop provided the GNHS campus journalists a comprehensive introduction to news writing, editing and headline writing, sports writing, feature writing, photojournalism, and radio broadcasting.

Hands-on activities were conducted after the lectures. The participants in the writing sessions conducted interviews and wrote articles, while those involved in photojournalism took photos and wrote captions. Moreover, participants in radio broadcasting wrote scripts and produced radio newscasts.

Eighteen students from Benguet State University's BA Communication program presented eight compelling projects at the "PACE of the Future Camp" on October 20-21 at the Lyceum University of the Philippines-Cavite.

The event was part of the Communication and Media Studies Conference (CMSC) 2023 organized by the Philippine Association of Communication Educators (PACE), a leading professional association for communication and media educators in the Philippines.

The BA Communication students' projects spanned various categories. There were four projects presented in the documentary category. These documentaries were produced by Normalyn Pacpaco, Jinalyn Calpasi, Shayne Ashley Sudiacal, Zairah Jane Valenciano, Joeyol Agalatiw, Gilbert Bermodez, Rica May A. Bahay, and Jimarie G. Bayanes.

Two projects were also pitched in the marketing category. These were presented by Kate Soriano, Blessy Grace Juan, Maverick Tiwen, Ron Marc Maranan, and Jellyrose Navaja.

Furthermore, three projects were presented in the journalism category. These were presented by Dave Cammas, Karen Sapirao, Glenn Russell Royales, Janeile De Jesus, and Hillary Christine Villena.

The event was participated in by 300 students and educators from 40 universities and colleges offering communication and media programs around the country. The next CMSC will be held at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) in October 2024.

The Department of Arts and Communication (DAC) conducted a seminar-workshop on campus journalism at Ampucao National High School (ANHS) on October 13, 2023.

Participated by 67 aspiring campus journalists of ANHS, the activity aimed to enhance the writing and production skills of the participants in preparation for the upcoming District Schools Press Conference later this year.

The seminar-workshop spanned three parallel sessions. The topics discussed are:

TV Broadcasting

Dr. Mildred V. Sepulchre, Principal of ANHS, expressed her gratitude to both BSU and DAC for sharing their expertise with the campus journalists. Mr. Peter Dalocdoc, Jr., Chairperson of DAC, also expressed his optimism for continuous partnership and sustainability of this initiative.

The activity is in partnership with the iTangguyob, the official student publication of the College of Arts and Humanities (CAH).

Organized by the Likhaan UP Institute of Creative Writing, the participants will be mentored by distinguished literary scholars and writers. For this year, speakers include National Artist for Literature Gemino H. Abad, Prof. Charlson Ong, Dr. Cristina Pantoja-Hidalgo, and Dr. Luna Sicat-Cleto.

The schedule provided falls on a holiday, Saturday and late afternoon hours of June 29 and 30 to accommodate graduands who are already working and those who will still travel to BSU.

We hope to have all photos of graduands taken while waiting for the BOR Resolution confirming all graduands as graduates of Second Semester, SY 2022 - 2023.
