Through the centuries, the sculptural tradition of Ukkilan was usually done by skilled men or "Panday Kahn" (wood carver) who were either self-taught or trained through apprenticeship. The carver creates Ukkil design patterns according to the shape of the objective. The artistict techniques are drawn from the instinctive and deep understanding of traditional craftsmanship.
The carving illustration on the lamps are by master carver Data Jamasali that originate from the Sibutan Island in Tawi Tawi province circa 1987.
The Lukis kinukku, an Ukkil design pattern used on wood moldings, has been carved onto our all weather crafted resin lamps.

In the early 1900's, the Butaka or a homestyle birthing chair was used as a piece of furniture in a birthing clinic where the woman's legs were placed on the extended arm rests like modern day stirrups. The chair was also called a lounging chair or planter's chair used for a respite from the heat and a grueling day at the plantation.
