We understand that bringing your child to the dentist for the first time can be nerve-wracking. Please know that it is common for children to feel uneasy and cry.

During their visit, we'll take it at your child's pace and make sure they are comfortable throughout. Rest assured that our clinic uses child-friendly techniques to make the experience as gentle as possible. Our focus is on creating a positive environment where your child feels safe and relaxed.

Additional tip: Before coming to the clinic, you can try reading a children's book about visiting the dentist. You can also play 'dentist' at home, taking turns being the dentist and the patient, to make it seem like a fun game. These activities can help your child become more familiar with the idea of going to the dentist and lessen any fears they may have.

The use of retainers are usually the last phase of an orthodontic treatment to make sure that the teeth do not shift back into their original positions. There are several kinds of retainers: hawley retainers, clear retainers and fixed / permanent retainers.

Hawley retainers are made up of acrylic and wire. The advantage is that they are durable and very effective. They can affect patients’ speech pattern in the early days but this effect tends to go away once they get used to wearing this. These are more noticeable than the other kinds of retainers.

Clear retainers are less durable than Hawley retainers but patients prefer this because they are clear, molded plastic making it less noticeable.

Permanent retainers sometimes referred to as “bonded” or “fixed” retainers, are permanently attached to the back of the front teeth. Many patients prefer this because they are effective, cannot be seen and are less likely to get lost. But they can also be uncomfortable in the beginning.

No matter what type of retainers your orthodontist recommends, it is very important that patients cooperate and wear it as prescribed so as to prevent relapse.

A panoramic x-ray, is a two-dimensional (2D) dental x-ray examination that captures the entire mouth in a single image, including the teeth, upper and lower jaws, surrounding structures and tissues. Together with other diagnostic tools, it is also used to plan treatment for full and partial dentures, braces, extractions and dental implants.

Your child's first dental visit is to help your child feel comfortable with the dentist. The first dental visit is recommended by 12-14 months of age. Depending on your child's age, the visit may include a full exam of the teeth, jaws, bite, gums, and oral tissues to check growth and development. If needed, your child may also have a gentle cleaning. This includes polishing teeth and removing any plaque, tartar, and stains. The dentist may show you and your child proper home cleaning such as flossing, and advise you on the need for fluoride.

From May-June 2018 Dr. Raquel Villanueva, our chief dentist, was given the opportunity to observe interesting cases from the oromaxillofacial surgery operating room in Korea University Anam Hospital.

To name a few of the procedures observed: Jaw resection due to Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the jaw, cyst removal / enucleation with simultaneous autogenous bone graft taken from the patient’s tibia, open reduction-internal fixation (ORIF) of multiple mandibular fracture due to trauma, removal of torus mandibularis from the lingual side and then grafted on the buccal side.

All procedures were done swiftly yet with a lot of care and Dr. Raquel will treasure all the learnings she has obtained. Special thanks and gratitude to the Medical Korea Academy program where shared learning never stops.

Inspired by Hospital Playlist 😅 But on a serious note, it made me reminisce my time running around Anam hospital observing how they skillfully treat their patients with utmost care, learning and absorbing as much information as I could, and of course enjoying every moment.
