About the Speakers:

DR. REINALD ADRIAN PUGOY

Dr. Reinald Adrian Pugoy is an Assistant Professor, AI scientist, and currently the ICT Director at UP Open University.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions, he has received multiple accolades, including the Young Innovator's Award Silver in 2015 and 2017, and the Gold medal in 2022 within the same category.

His tireless commitment to education has also been acknowledged through awards such as the Gawad Chancellor for Outstanding Faculty in 2017, and the Faculty Grant Award in Computer Science for Outstanding Teaching and Public Service spanning 2019-2021.

His relentless pursuit to excel in academics earned him a scholarship grant from the prestigious Taiwan Ministry of Education.

Dr. Pugoy is an expert in the fields of Recommender Systems, Natural Language Processing (NLP)/Computational Linguistics, Machine Learning, and AI in Education. His extensive research in these areas has led to significant advancements and breakthroughs.

DR. GEOFFREY SOLANO

Dr. Geoffrey Solano is a highly accomplished academic with a Ph.D. in Computer Science specializing in Algorithms and Complexity from the University of the Philippines, Diliman.

His extensive experience includes serving as the ICT Director of UP Manila from May 2018 to October 2023. He is currently the Head of the Computational Biology Research Group and an Associate Professor 7 in the Mathematical and Computing Sciences Unit at the University of the Philippines, Manila, where he has been teaching since November 2005.

Dr. Solano has received numerous awards for his work, including the DOST-PCASTRD Most Outstanding Masteral Thesis in ICT (2005-2008) and over 40 International Publication Awards since 2012. He was also awarded the Best Student Paper at the 9th IEEE International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications Zakynthos, Greece in 2018.

In recognition of his exceptional work, he has been named an Outstanding Faculty in Instruction and Research (OneUP Awardee for two terms) and is ranked as a "University Scientist." To date, he has authored or co-authored nearly 60 published journal articles and book chapters.

Dr. Solano's research interests include graph algorithms, graph mining, network analysis, combinatorial optimization, bioinformatics, machine learning for health, systems biology, and approximation algorithms.

By God's grace, BBCEMFI will continue to train and equip the Christian youth for leadership and influence for Christ so that they can go forth to serve and share the good news of salvation to the lost and dying world.
