Smart BukSU Shines as a Green University: Ranks 1st in Northern Mindanao, 9th in PH, 534th in the world per UI GreenMetric World University Rankings

Achieving a global recognition, BukSU - Bukidnon State University has entered the UI Greenmetric World University Rankings (UIGWUR) 2023, ranking first in Northern Mindanao, ninth in the Philippines and 534th in the world.

UIGWUR is a ranking on green campus and environmental sustainability of world universities which is determined by six criteria. It was initiated by the Universitas Indonesia in 2010.
In the 2023 world rankings, BukSU earned a total score of 6275. In the six criteria, the university garnered 1000 in setting and infrastructure, 1400 in energy and climate change, 1200 in waste, 500 in water, 1175 in transportation, and 1075 in education and research.

This year, 1183 universities were included in the UIGWUR. Of this number, 22 are universities in the Philippines. The top Philippine university in the UIGWUR is the De La Salle University - Dasmarinas Campus. Other PH universities joining BukSU in the global rankings are as follows: Mariano Marcos State University; Batangas State University, The National Engineering University; De La Salle University Manila; University of Northern Philippines; Samar State University; Tarlac Agricultural University; Catanduanes State University; and West Visayas State University, among others.

During the 1st Regional Research and Innovations Summit 2023, Ms. Marlie Joy P. Sigod presented the research titled 𝑭𝒍𝒆𝒙𝒊𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑺𝒚𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒎 𝑰𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒊𝒏 𝑷𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒑𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝑯𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝑬𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑰𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒕𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔, which she co-authored with Dr. Hazel Jean M. Abejuela and Dr. Marilou O. Espina. The study focuses on the crucial development of evidence-based monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of the implementation of the Flexible Learning System. It specifically examined whether this new learning modality adequately meets the demands generated by the emerging challenges in education.

The event that is happening at the moment is hosted by the BukSU Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovation (BukSU OVPREI) and co-hosted by the Philippine College Foundation, San Isidro College, San Agustin Institute of Technology, and the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines.

Our very own VPAA, Dr. Hazel Jean Mediante Abejuela, attended the Graduation Ceremony as one of the graduates of the Global Academic Leadership Program (GALP) for State Universities and Colleges Presidents and Local Universities and Colleges Presidents (CHED-AIM GALP for SUC and LUC) on November 29, 2023 at AIM Campus, Makati City. The program provided the essential transformative leadership skills for SUC and LUC educational leaders and government partner officials.

The programs were designed (1) to meet the needs of the 21st century education environment with competencies and innovative tools to move towards SMART universities and (2) to prepare the participants with leadership and management skills to think strategically, lead globally and become locally responsive educational institutions, build collaborative relationships, and mobilize and manage resources.
