There were many good questions from participants however not all of them were attended to due to time constraints. Prof. Dr. Raza gave a synopsis of the session in which he congratulated the organizers, presenters and participants for the successful event. He noted that despite our background, social and cultural differences we are all faced with same problems. That calls for a global cooperation and active participation from everyone especially in researches towards finding solutions to our common problems. No one is safe until everyone is. We must change with change as the only thing that remains constant is the change itself.

The Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Unit, Graduate School of Business (GSB), Philippine School of Business Administration (PSBA), Manila, conducted a webinar series on Public Health System Resilience Scorecard for the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (QCDRRMO) staff on September 15, 2021 at 9:00AM. This webinar series was delivered by Prof. Dr. Tabassam Raza, Director, DRM-Unit and Associate Dean of GSB.
As an addendum to the Disaster Resilience Scorecard for Cities, Public Health System Resilience Scorecard aimed to strengthen and integrate coverage of the many aspects of public health issues and consequences of disasters. This was indeed in line with the United Nations’ Disaster Resilience Scorecard for Cities which provides a set of assessments that allow local governments to assess their disaster resilience, structuring around United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction’s (UNDRR) Ten Essentials for Making Cities Resilient. The webinar series was certainly a success as indicated by the active participation from the participants.

5th Global Summit GADRI: Engaging Science with Action

The Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Unit, Graduate School of Business (GSB), Philippine School of Business Administration (PSBA), Manila will be participating in the upcoming “5th Global Summit of Global Alliance of Disaster Research Institutes (GADRI): Engaging Science with Action”. The summit will be held from August 31 to September 1, 2021. The target participants are GADRI members (academic institutions), young scientists, science-policy brokers, and policy makers. Prof. Dr. Tabassam Raza will be representing DRM Unit, PSBA, Manila in the Summit. Further, he will be presenting e-poster entitled “Quezon City DRM Framework for COVID-19 Pandemic: Inclusive Unified Response, Recovery, and Rehabilitation Action Plan 2020-2030, Philippines” during the e-poster session, Poster No: P2-01 [1|2|3|4], on September 1, 2021. The poster can be accessed at the following link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Q2GWFn5dVrD6Auvn5vN8lezQ-iHehwwG/view
The 5th Global Summit of GADRI will take place virtually during the above mentioned dates. The Summit aims at stock taking of progress in DRR researches from its members towards targets of the Sendai Science and Technology Roadmap. The program will communicate academic science across scientific disciplines to policy makers and practitioners. It is an important aspect for academics to be aware how science can directly contribute to national and local disasters, for example, a dam break or an epidemic outbreak, etc. Such situations prompt scientists’ interventions, expertise, and experience and to share them with emergency managers in crisis situations.
For more information kindly, refer to the following link: http://gadri.net/summit/

Congratulations!!!
The two staffs of the Graduate School of Business (GSB) who were nominated to take part in the certificate course “Introductory Course on Multidisciplinary Approach for Disaster Risk Management, Resilience and Sustainability” finally graduated on August 26, 2021, upon successfully completing the course. The graduation ceremony was held virtually with all participants present. Dr. Tabassam Raza, Director of the Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Unit and Dean (External Education) of the Graduate School of Business (GSB), Philippine School of Business Administration (PSBA), Manila was also present at the virtual graduation ceremony, where he gave his valuable comments and congratulatory message on behalf of PSBA-Manila to everyone for successfully participating and completing the course. All the trainees were awarded certificates of participation for having successfully completed the course.
Dr. Raza also thanked Dr. Indrajit Pal, Principal Investigator of the training course and Chair of the Disaster Preparedness, Mitigation, and Management Program of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) for having invited him as an observer during the training course. Dr. Raza endorsed a collaboration between PSBA and AIT to support each other for a successful development and implementation of similar course in the near future.
Dr. Raza said that “indeed, there is a lack of professional training for educators with a fast-changing multidisciplinary technical domain for effective linkages between the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and disaster education. The unique amalgamation of disaster education and sustainable development in the Asian region is a vital need to develop the cross-cutting education system, particularly in a vulnerable region. Thus, enhancing understanding about the Sustainable Development and Disaster Risk Reduction of doctoral students and early career researchers associated with the Higher Education Institute on Disaster Resilience and Sustainable Development (HEI-DRSD) Network should be the objective of such training programs.” He also gave some key points on areas to improve on in order to make such training courses more interactive, participative, and interesting in the future.
