MASCI 1998 Silver Jubilee

Hello, Batchmates!

Last Friday (March 22) marked the culmination of our batch’s collective efforts in the past year: the official turnover of our monetary donation to the MSHS Alumni Foundation, as well as the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the MSHS Alumni Legacy Park.

Our homecoming committee head Dr. Marj Huerte handed the cermonial cheque amounting to 1.2 Million Pesos to Ms Luz Lorenzo (Treasurer, MSHS Alumni Foundation), Dr. Roland Dela Cruz - (MaSci Principal) and Ms. Abbie Cacapit (MaSci Faculty - Alumni Foundation Coordinator).

Also in attendance were members of our Batch 1998 Silver Jubilee Committee, Alumni Foundation Board of Trustees and donors from across all MaSci batches (some from batch 1973, the golden jubilarians!)

There is an abundance of thanks and kudos to go around, especially to those who have given their support so generously, in more ways than one. We have good reason to be proud of what we accomplished here, but more importantly - may this inspire us to continue the legacy of paying-it-forward in the succeeding years!

The ATOM Awards was started in October 2013 as a highlight of MaSci’s Golden Jubilee (50th Year) celebration where 50 alumni were inducted as ATOM Awardees. It has its roots in the very first Alumni Awards conferred in March 1977 on five distinguished MaSci graduates: men and women with notable achievements in their chosen fields, deemed ideal role models worthy of emulation for the current crop of MaScians.

The Manila Science High School Batch 1998, in coordination with the MaSci Alumni Foundation, is constructing an ALUMNI LEGACY PARK located in front of MaSci's Bordner Building.

To help us fund this project, all graduates can purchase bricks to be used on the walkway of the park. Below is a rendering of what the brick will look like.

Brick sponsorship prices are as follows:

Php 20,000 (1 walkway tile only)
Php 25,000 (1 walkway tile and other inclusions in Gold sponshorship package)
Php 50,000 (1 bench tile and other inclusions in Platinum sponsorship package)

It was a very surreal experience seeing you again, our dear teachers, 25 years after our graduation.

We are so blessed to be given an opportunity serving you this time, even for a few short hours you came to MaSci again…any effort will never be enough compared to how you influenced our lives…

Thank you for your patience (especially with our kakulitan), your dedication even if sometimes we can’t perform as expected, your commitment which is sometimes undervalued….please know that we are forever grateful for the lessons you have taught us!

Getting ready for our Masci Medics Health Check on October 1, 2023

Hi-Precision Diagnostics will be the mobile laboratory provider while free medical consultations will be conducted by medical specialists from Batch ’98.

Comprehensive lab workup (complete blood count, HbA1c, fasting blood sugar, cholesterol, liver and kidney function tests, urinalysis, 12-lead ECG, and chest X-ray), bone density screening, OB-GYN exams (Pap smear and breast exam), and complete ophthalmology check are included in the free medical evaluation.

We are proud of what you have become today, MaSci….but more importantly how you became an instrument to where we are now.

Here’s our first fundraising update. So far we have reached 435,900 of our 2.5 million peso goal. 416,000 of which was courtesy of Rachel Punzalan’s benefit concert in Winnipeg last May. 👏

We hope we can all find some inspiration in this and do our own fund-raising, as individuals, or by our senior year sections or friend groups.

Ms. Gallardo, Ms. Faylogna and Ms. Palisoc did not age a bit, seeing them after 25 years…

Most of our teachers are already retired, sadly some have passed. We can still reach them, now that technology has developed to make connections faster than ever before.

I think its about time we should give our gratitude towards our teachers in MaSci who have helped us in our academic and personal journey towards success 👩‍🏫👨‍🏫
