[OVCAA Memorandum: Advisory in light of the Transport Strike and Government Work Suspension]

As per the OVCAA Memorandum, the faculty is requested to extend leniency to students who may face transportation difficulties during the transport strike scheduled on September 23-24.

Furthermore, classes on September 23 will only be until 3:00 PM in response to the suspension of government work issued by the Office of the President in line with the annual Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga Day.

The Department of Social Sciences mourns the passing of Prof. Regina Gabriela S. Decangchon. Prof. Decangchon, or Reg to their colleagues, was an alumni of the UP Manila Political Science Program. During their undergraduate days, Reg was a fierce student activist who always preached about the value of the parliament of the streets. Always fighting for the welfare of their kapwa Iskolar ng Bayan, Reg was a former chair of the progressive student party-alliance ASAP-Katipunan. Reg was also an advocate of student athlete welfare and physical health, serving as a councilor for sports in the CAS Student Council and later on the UP Manila University Student Council. Upon their graduation in 2019, Reg enrolled at the UP School of Economics for their Master’s degree. They later became a lecturer for the Development Studies Program in 2021, where they taught Introduction to Economics, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, History of Economic Thought, and Statistics for Social Sciences. Reg leaves behind a 9-year old son, four siblings, and their parents. Maraming salamat at pinakamataas na pagpupugay, kasamang Regina!

CAS holds Graduate Program Workshop

In a bid to offer new Graduate Programs for the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), a two-day workshop was held last August 29-30, 2024 at the Hotel Kimberly, Malate, Manila.

The event focused on program outcomes and on the traits of an ideal graduate program graduate. It was facilitated by Dr. Amelia Clasara-Fajardo and Assistant Professor Ferdinand Pol Martin, both from the College of Education of the University of the Philippines Diliman.

The event was attended by 25 faculty members from the Department of Social Sciences - U.P. Manila, UP Manila - Department of Arts and Communication, and the Department of Biology - CAS, UP Manila. It was organized by the CAS Office of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.

BREAKING: Upon recommendation of Manila DRRM Office, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan suspends FACE-TO-FACE classes in ALL LEVELS in public and private schools in the city on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, due to the expected heavy rainfall forecasted by PAGASA.

Schools are directed to switch to any alternative learning modality.

BREAKING: Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan suspends classes in both public and private schools in ALL LEVELS as well as work in local government offices in the City of Manila for Tuesday, September 3, 2024, due to .

Offices providing frontline services such as emergency response , peace and order, and basic and health services shall be exempted from the suspension.

Suspension of work for private companies shall be left to the discretion of their respective heads.

Memorandum circular No. 63 from the Office of the President suspends classes in public schools and government work in NCR and Region 4-A for September 3.

Paving the way for more precise and effective crime scene analysis, significantly advancing the field to enhance the accuracy and reliability of forensic investigations, Dr. Jay T. Dalet of the Department of Biology - CAS, UP Manila, was honored as Keynote Speaker for "Unveiling Crime Scene Biology: Applications of RNA-FISH in Forensic Casework Analysis" on August 25, 2024 during the 15th IASR International Forensic Science Conference at the Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute, University of Delhi, New Delhi, India held on August 23-25, 2024.
