Here is our very own 10-year old violinist Lois Quitane, representing the MSO Music Academy at the Evening Concert 2 of the Korea Suzuki Association 2024 Summer Music Festival, performing Mozart Violin Concerto no. 2 in D, K. 211, accompanied by KSA Teachers Orchestra under Mr Jeffrey Solares.
Lois is a pupil of teacher Sara Maria Gonzales since she was 4 years old. She was part and one of the soloists of the Manila Symphony Junior Orchestra in their recent European Concert Tour.

The theme of this year's Summer Out There Music Camp is Ode to Joy, to celebrate the 200th year since Symphony No. 9 of L.V. Beethoven was completed and first performed. Tonight, we had our first rehearsal of teacher Jeffrey Solares' multi-level arrangement of Ode to Joy, which we will perform in the Culminating Concert on Thursday, July 18, 2024, 10 am, at the Asia Pacific College Auditorium.

The beauty of technology is that we can hold our camp orientation even if some of our faculty members are still in Europe with the MSJO. 3 more days before the 9th MSO Music Academy Summer Out There Camp at the Asia Pacific College. We can't wait to see all of you on Monday. With over 70 participants and 20 faculty and staff, it will definitely be a week of fun, friendship and music making.

The Manila Symphony Junior Orchestra (MSJO), under the baton of their conductor Jeffrey Solares has just been awarded a Gold Prize plus the Grand Prix for orchestra for getting 99 points at the 13th Bratislava International Youth Music Festival.
It is MSJO’s first time to come to Bratislava, Slovakia to participate in this event. Over 500 youth participants from 13 countries attended the 3-day festival for youth choirs and orchestras presided by the festival’s artistic director Prof Milan Kolena. Distinguished musicians from Slovakia, USA, Australia and Italy formed the jury.
Of the 17 ensembles in the festival, only two were given the Grand Prix, one for choir- the Afrikaans H**r Meisisskool Pretoria from South Africa, and one for orchestra, the Manila Symphony Junior Orchestra from the Philippines. The Grand Prix is awarded only to ensembles who garnered 97 points or higher.
The competition was held at the Slovakian Radio Symphony Hall. The MSJO performed a program of 20 minutes, consisting of Stephan Koncz’ A New Satiesfaction, Antonin Dvorak’s Scherzo from Serenade for Strings, Ernani Cuenco’s Nahan arranged by Cyro Cloui Bon Moral, and Taguguan by Ryle Nicole Custodio.
Earlier this week the MSJO already performed concerts in Budapest, Hungary and Salzburg, Austria. Tomorrow they travel to Vienna to participate at the 2024 Summa Cum Laude International Music Festival where they hope to repeat their 2018 first prize win.
