ICYMI | Viva Voce COC screams Pride at 'BOSES' 2024

Viva Voce COC kicked off Pride Month with their annual BOSES 2024 celebration, themed 'Here and Q***r: Chuva Choo Chooing Our Way to Liberty,' on June 6, 2024, at the PUP College of Communication (COC) lobby.

They feature a well-anticipated series of activities including interactive games, song covers, and spoken poetry piece performances from VVC, PUP Ensemble, PUP Circle of Research Enthusiast (PUP Core), SAMASA COC, League of Filipino Students of PUP (PUP LFS) and Anakbayan National.

Mx. Elle Buntag, alumni, and Viva Voce’s Vice member also shared their experiences as a transwoman that transcended their purpose to uplift and raise awareness about SOGIE.

“Beyond being transwoman, I am also a citizen who will continuously fight for the rights of our society”, they said.

Meanwhile, Viva Voce’s President, Mx. Reynan Louis Alegre also highlights the importance of passing the SOGIESC Bill to empower rights and protection against discrimination, specifically to the closeted community of LGBTQIA+.

"The passage of the SOGIESC Bill will serve as a bridge for greater acceptance, not just for those who are closeted, but for other sectors of our society. It is essential for the q***r community and the entire LGBTQIA+ spectrum.", said in our interview.

Indeed, BOSES 2024 brilliantly encapsulates the power of inclusivity through art and expression that fosters a spirit of unity and celebration to the Pride community.

With only one day left before our forum, Atin Ang Pinas would like to reaffirm its calls for independence from imperialist countries and to strive for national sovereignty.
In the midst of conflict between the US and China, vulnerable sectors have been caught in the crossfire of imperialist plunder and territorial disputes. Rather than adhering to either sides’ demands, the government should be championing the people’s interests especially under continuous economic crises. Instead of spending the nation’s taxes on joint military exercises, they should be raising workers' salaries and increasing minimum wage. Instead of being complacent towards the attacks faced by fisherfolks from Chinese vessels, they should be proactive in providing support and aid to protect the livelihoods of our fisherfolk. Instead of allowing foreign projects to exploit our abundant resources, they should be focusing on boosting local industries and aim for national industrialization.
Instead of doing anything to improve the lives of Filipinos, they choose to sell our country and become puppets to imperialism. Regardless of how much they put up a front in advocating for the people’s interests, the only true interests they advocate for are their own.
Which is why we encourage everyone to join us tomorrow to register our calls in resisting US and Chinese imperialism, become part of the struggle and be one with the movement for true national sovereignty!

He is also a member of Tanggol Kasaysayan, an alliance of scholars and historians who promote a progressive teaching of history, and Scholars for Peace, an alliance of academics who stand up for peace and social justice.

🎶 What is BOSES 2024?

- 𝐁𝐎𝐒𝐄𝐒 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒! is our vibrant celebration of inclusivity through Filipino Pop Music, in harmony with Pride Month festivities.

Objectives:

1. To create an inclusive platform that encourages unity and acceptance within the COC community.

2. To promote diversity, celebrate individuality, and spread the message of equality and liberty.

3. To bolster a genuine q***r representation in the media, and move forward towards a more colorful and louder community.
