Congratulations to our AB Literature Major in Creative Writing (ABLIM-CW) student Lawrence Andrew Basallote on being selected as a participant in the 4th Saling Panitik Seminar-Palihang Bienvenido Lumbera!
The seminar by UP Likhaan will be held on August 14-16, 2024. Its focus is the translation of literary or philosophical works initially written in German into Filipino. There will be lectures on translation philosophy, theory, practice, and history, with a general overview of the subject and a particular emphasis on the translation of German works into Filipino.

ABOUT THE VISITING PROFESSOR
Adrian Kear is a Professor of Theatre and Performance at University of the Arts London. His research investigates the relationships between performance and politics, and agency and apparatus in creative practice. Adrian’s books include: Theatre and Event: Staging the European Century (Palgrave); Thinking Through Theatre and Performance (with Maaike Bleeker, Joe Kelleher and Heike Roms, Bloomsbury); International Politics and Performance: Critical Aesthetics and Creative Practice (with Jenny Edkins, Routledge); Psychoanalysis and Performance (with Patrick Campbell, Routledge); and Mourning Diana: Nation, Culture and the Performance of Grief (with Deborah Lynn Steinberg, Routledge).

ABOUT THE EVENT
Novelist Gina Apostol is known for her novels that tackle the complex relationship between the historical and personal—womanhood and nationhood—in the context of the Global South. In this event, Apostol reads from her work and discusses her art and craft in conversation with Dr. Antonette Arogo and Dr. Ana Margarita Nuñez.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Gina Apostol is a Filipino writer now based in the US. She is the author of Bibliolepsy (1997), The Revolution According to Raymundo Mata (2009), Gun Dealer’s Daughter (2010), Insurrecto (2018), and La Tercera (2022). She won the 2022-2023 Rome Prize in Literature for her proposed novel, The Treatment of Paz. Her latest book, La Tercera, was selected as Editors’ Choice of the New York Times. Insurrecto was named by Publishers’ Weekly as one of the Ten Best Books of 2018, selected as an Editor’s Choice of the New York Times, and shortlisted for the Dayton Prize. Gun Dealers’ Daughter won the 2013 PEN/Open Book Award and was shortlisted for the William Saroyan Prize. She is the 2024 Inouye Chair for Democratic Ideals at the University of Hawaii-Manoa.
ABOUT THE MODERATORS
Antonette Talaue Arogo holds a Ph.D. in Literature from DLSU, where she teaches literature, theory and criticism, and cultural studies. She is currently working on her first book on cosmopolitanism in contemporary Philippine critical theory.
Ana Margarita R. Nuñez holds a Ph.D. in Literature from DLSU, where she teaches courses in literature and creative writing. Her short stories, essays, and screenplays have been published in Kritika Kultura, Likhaan Journal of Contemporary Philippine Literature, and the Philippines Free Press.

The two-day conference shall open on May 16, 2024 (Thursday) at 9:00 AM. If you pre-registered and/or confirmed your attendance to the conference and have not received an acceptance letter, please know that you are WELCOME to our event. Please take note of the following reminders:
✅Only those who have registered for the conference via our PRE-REGISTRATION and/or our CONFIRMATION PERIODS will be allowed entry to the campus. Walk-ins will not be allowed to enter the premises and participate in the conference.
✅The Conference Entrance is at the DLSU HENRY SY GATE (Second gate to the right side of McDonald’s Vito Cruz; the gate with an elevated ramp). Please bring your ID and proof of registration (screenshot or printout) and present them at the Writing the Classroom Registration Booth.
✅The Opening Program will be held at HSH 401 (The Verdure) and begin at 9:00 AM. You are advised to come ahead of this time since registration may take a while. Ushers will be guiding you to The Verdure.
✅Food will not be provided. During the breaks, you are encouraged to explore the various canteens, concessionaires, and eating spaces inside and outside the campus.
✅Water and coffee will be available onsite. You are encouraged to bring your tumblers.
✅Certificates will be provided via email after the conference only for those who will complete both days of the event.

Fans and the fandom cultures are crucial agents in the phenomenal development of Asia as the foremost producer of popular culture and entertainment, including the Asian TV drama series, in the twenty-first century. The ardent community dialogues and the exciting fans’ activities have built a sense of global connectedness that cuts across continents and cultures.
We invite the fans of Pinoy teleserye, Thai drama, K-drama, C-drama, J-drama, J-anime, Indian drama, and other Asian TV dramas to contribute a recorded video of your testimonial for “My Favorite Asian TV Drama.” Your fan’s testimonial should have the premise “My favorite Asian TV drama is…because…” It can include a visual aid to reference your favorite (e.g., poster of the TV drama, photo token of your favorite Asian TV drama actor). The organizing team includes DLSU CLA Public Humanities Cluster, DLSU Southeast Asian Research Center and Hub (SEARCH) and the DLSU Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation (VPRI). We congratulate our Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing (MFACREA) student Ryan Machado, whose screenplay, Vanishing Skies, has been selected as a full-length film semi-finalist for Cinemalaya 2025!
We also congratulate him on the success of his 2023 Cinemalaya film, Huling Palabas, which has been screened in several international film festivals, including the 74th Berlin International Film Festival 2024 and the Stockholm International Film Festival Junior 2024. It is also slated to be screened in the 27th Pink Apple Q***r Film Festival in Zurich from April 23 until May 5 of this year.
