After a careful deliberation — the Interdisciplinary Studies Society proudly announces the newly-appointed executive board and adviser of the organization for this school year 2024-2025.

This deliberation of appointment had gone through a thorough process of an open application, paper screening, and interview with the incumbent executive board members of the organization and its adviser.

As the organization continues to uphold the IDS community's goal to be diverse and giving awareness to such societal issues and the marginalized, the officers do also bear the responsibility to give their utmost service for the betterment of the community.

Marka ito ng isang matamis na pagtatapos. Ito ay ang huling pangungusap sa dulo ng isang tila napaka habang nobela. Ang hinga ng ginhawa matapos akyatin ang isang matayog na bundok. Ngunit bukod dito, sumisimbolo rin ito ng pagsisimula. Ang unang salita sa bagong kabanata at ang pagsilip ng haring araw, kasama ang mainit nitong yakap.

Nakikiisa ang Interdisciplinary Studies Society ng Far Eastern University sa pagdiriwang ng National Culture Consciousness Week mula noong Hulyo 1 hanggang 7, 2024.

Ang kultura ng Pilipinas ay mayaman at mayabong—multikultural ang ating identidad. Samakatuwid, hindi naniniwala ang organisasyon sa kasabihang "isang bayan, isang lahi," bagkus, oras na para yakapin na sa iisang bayan ay samu't sari ang lahi ng mga Pilipino—na sa kabila ng pagkakaiba natin ay magkakaisa tayong lahat sa pag-angat ng ating bandera. Kaya naman, nawa'y sa linggong ito, ating nakilala, nakilatis, at nakamtan ang kulturang Pinoy.

Sa ganitong paraan, patuloy na mabibigyang bisibilidad at kapahalagahan ang mga tradisyon, kasaysayan, at sining sa Pilipinas, nang gayundin ay mapreserba at maprotektahan sa pagharap sa mga hamong dulot ng nagbabagong panahon. Tayo ay magkaisa sa pagpapalaganap ng kamalayan patungkol sa likas na kagandahan ng ating bayan at ang kahusayan ng ating mga kababayan.

The Malacañang has declared this day as a Special Non-working holiday in Manila under the Proclamation No. 599 to commemorate the said founding anniversary.

We celebrate Pride Month to honor the brave hearts of our friends and loved ones from the LGBTQIA+ community. More than the rainbows painted on products and streets we see during this month, 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆.

In line with this, the Interdisciplinary Studies Society firmly believes that every one, regardless of how they identify themselves, should have the freedom to express and speak their truth. Thus, this year's Pride Wall aims to highlight shared messages of the LGBTQIA+ community along with their allies.

🔍 Ever wondered if Babaylans still exist in the 21st century?

Researchers Jersery Ablaza, Nathaniel Bernardo, Nicole Crescini, Joy Mincy De Jesus, and Yelena Trinidad proved in their thesis entitled "Ang mga Babaylan sa Ika-21 Dantaon: Ang Pagpapatuloy ng Katutubong Espirituwalidad sa Pilipinas" that chosen Babaylans has preserved and continued the precolonial practice of healing, mediating with the spiritual world, foretelling, and having spiritual guides in the Philippine contemporary society.

🔍 Are beauty makeovers necessary in romance?

In "Ugly Duckling to Western Swan: A Critical Analysis of the Perfect Girl Transformation in Filipino Films" written by Yvez Sansan, two Filipino films were analyzed to depict the phenomenal transformation trope in popular culture. Diary ng Panget (2014, dir. Andoy Ranay) and Must Be...Love (2013, dir. Dado C. Lumibao) exhibited the "beauty" transformation of two teenage girls from having morena skin and acnes, wearing mismatched "baduy" clothes, to embracing western standards of beauty. As the title suggests, the discussion focused on the influence of colonialism and colorism on Filipinas perspective of beauty and body image.

PRIDE IS NOT JUST A CELEBRATION
PRIDE IS A PROTEST FOR THE LIBERATION OF THE PEOPLE

Pride is an unending declaration of liberation. Pride stands as a powerful protest against systemic oppression. Originating from the 1969 Stonewall Uprising, Pride has since evolved into a global movement of a continued protest against ongoing oppressions. We pledge to uphold this mission, challenging exclusivity and domineering structures within our systems.

The core of Pride is its commitment towards inclusivity, serving as a reminder that our battles for justice and equality must be all-encompassing. Most particularly, within the educational system of the Philippines, we call upon universities to promote inclusivity and challenge policies that restrict individuality, such as rigid haircuts, dress codes, and the disregard of lived names and one’s SOGIE. Through legislation efforts, we strongly urge the government to expedite the passage of the SOGIE bill, which has been pending since its initial filing in 2000. Now, more than ever, it's crucial to safeguard people's rights.

Pride is a powerful movement for reclaiming spaces and achieving true emancipation. It echoes as a rallying cry for liberation, aimed at individuals oppressed by harsh systems. These systems manifest in different forms, such as the ongoing genocide in Palestine, rampant gender-based violence, widespread discrimination, the denial of Divorce and SOGIE bill passage, territorial disputes in the West Philippine Sea, improper wages for our workers, and the lack of improvement of public services for the overall liberation of the Filipino masses. Pride recognizes these interconnected struggles – for the promise of Pride is being inclusive in what we fight for.

Beyond the colorful garments being paraded on the streets, Pride is ultimately a force that represents the long-fought battle of injustices that the community have continuously experienced. It is the vessel of minority groups who collectively experience systemic prejudices committed by those who stand on top of the pyramid. However, even if we are in the footsteps of the pyramid, our amplified voices are heard at the peak. You are heard, valid, and seen. Just as the hues of the sky run free, our future hopes for boundless liberty.

The FEU Interdisciplinary Studies Society is immensely proud of Denise Angel Montes, one of our outstanding Interdisciplinary Studies student, for being part of the FEU Oratorical and Debate Council (ORADEC)’s championship team in the United Asian Debating Championships in Malaysia!

The United Asian Debating Championship will take place from May 31 – June 8, 2024.
