Kaeng Krechan Circuit, Phetchaburi, TH --June 26, 2024 ---The 2024 ROL Thailand Championships concluded on a high note with a thrilling Men’s 15-kilometer interval Classic. The event featured impressive performances from young and seasoned athletes alike.
Philippine junior skier Menard Francisco (16), flashed his determination and resilience, delivering a strong performance and finishing 9th with a time of 45:31.1. His fellow teammate from Morong Nordic Sports Club, Paul Orca (16), also demonstrated his tenacity, securing the 11th position, clocking in at 46:22.8. This competition marked their debut in the FIS circuit, and both started 1 and 2 at 30-second intervals, a difficult position to be in a grueling classic interval race.
The race also saw dominant displays from more experienced cross-country skiers. Dmitriy Kolomeyets (26) from Kazakhstan, a seasoned skier, claimed the gold medal, showcasing his prowess. His compatriot, Nikita Phuskarev (21), earned the silver medal, reinforcing Kazakhstan’s strong presence in the competition. The bronze medal went to Thailand’s own Thanakorn Ngoeichai (17), a junior World Cup participant and XC circuit campaigner, who continues to make his mark on the international stage with his impressive performance.
Cross-country skiing and its summer counterpart, rollerskiing, are renowned as some of the most physically demanding outdoor sports. They require a unique blend of speed, strength, and endurance. The participation of young athletes like Francisco and Orca alongside seasoned competitors highlights the sport’s dynamic and evolving landscape and the athletes’ physical capabilities.
As the 2024 ROL Thailand Championships close, the performances of these young athletes from Rizal Province promise a bright future for roller skiing in the Philippines and ignite a sense of hope and excitement for the sport’s growth in the country. // photo by SSAT // +6

Day 2 - 2024 Rollerski Thailand Championships
-- The day began with a thrilling 15K Skates Mass Race, featuring five laps around the beautiful Kaeng Krachan course in Phetchaburi, Thailand. Paul Orca and Menard Francisco, two of our dedicated 16-year-olds, bravely competed in the super competitive free-skates category. Having only learned the techniques of skates four weeks ago, they gave it their all. Though they did not finish this time, their efforts were commendable. The race was dominated by experienced skiers from Kazakhstan and Thailand, showcasing top-tier skills.
In the 6000-meter race, our 11-12-year-old Pierre dela Cruz placed an impressive 13th out of 26 entries. In the 13-14-year-olds' 12500 meters race, Dimitri Santiago finished 16th, while Jonas Sta Ana placed 17th.
In between the races, our coaches and athletes were able to witness biathlon competition.
Overall, it was a strong showing and a fantastic learning experience for our athletes and coaches in the skates event. Tomorrow marks the start of the classic race. Let's continue to cheer on our young skiers!
Go team! 💪⛷️
