The Guam Behavioral Health and Wellness Center and Pacific Southwest Addiction Technology Transfer Center cordially invite you to save the date for Guam’s 5th Annual Behavioral Health and Addictions Virtual Conference. The UCLA Gambling Studies Program ( UGSP) is a non-profit org whose mission is to reduce the individual, familial, and societal harm caused by problem gambling. This hits close to home! Listen to Dr. Gina Hechanova-Alampay, Professor, Department of Psychology of the Ateneo de Manila University, who will talk about, " The Lived Experiences of Filipinos Engaged in E-Sabong: Implications for Community-based Programs."

This presentation cites a study that examined the lived experiences of 8 Filipino adults who engaged in online sabong during the Covid-19 pandemic. The results of the study imply the importance of prevention and early interventions especially at the community level. Existing community-based interventions for mental health and substance use in the Philippines are presented and how they may be used to address problems related to gambling.
