Hello, incoming LALC parents,

We have joined the Federation of Associations of Private Schools and Administrators of the Philippines (FAPSA) in the opinion that instruction modality for the incoming school year be left to the discretion of the respective private schools.

While we recognize that the announcement to revert to full, 5x/week face-to-face classes by Nov 2, 2022 is borne out of a desire to return to pre-pandemic norms of life, we believe that the economic and pedagogical benefits of this decision are inconsistent with the objectives for wholistic growth, responsive and responsible education, and good citizenship that the schools have taken upon ourselves as our mission in pursuing this enterprise.

This decision assumes that there will be negligible risks towards the spread of COVID for our learners and employees, and disenfranchises those people that can not get a vaccine because of limitations of age, personal or religious beliefs, or other underlying health concerns. Furthermore, it puts an additional strain on the resources of both the schools and the parents, as both parties have to strive to balance their limited financial sources that have been depleted during this pandemic. With our economy being in distress already as it is, (rising inflation, higher exchange rate, and soaring gas prices) forcing the parents to take on added costs for their children’s education is profoundly immoral.

Under the current educational system, only our Kinder level is affected by this decision. Thus, Toddlers, Nursery and PreKinder pupils will still be able to attend full Online Classes. If the DepEd does not revise its order, our MOA Center is ready to accommodate our Kinder-level pupils for 5x/wk classes starting in November. The tuition fees for full 5x/wk classes will be the same as it is for our Blended Learning classes.

We are hoping that the DepEd can review and rethink this decision and come to the conclusion that certain matters of operations and modalities of learning should be left to the discretion of private schools who are partners, and not vassals, in the mission of educating the Filipino youth.

We shall be open for walk-in visits in our SM Mall of Asia Center (G/F Galeon Wing, North Side) this entire week, from July 4 to 9, 2022. You may visit us from 10am to 430pm.

We shall also be holding an Open House in our MOA Center on Saturday, July 9. We shall be having a trial class for our Blended Learning Progam, and slots shall be limited. Why Online Classes Are Here To Stay

Psychologists and learning experts are all in agreement: proper learning at an early age is a critical and important barometer in the eventual success of a person. And it’s not just academic success that’s affected by early learning. An article published by the National Association for the Education of Young Children in 2020 suggests that school-based learning provides much needed guidance that will help children develop “healthy emotional and social skills.” (Teaching Young Children, Vol 13, no. 3).

The challenge to toe a fine line between discipline and proper guidance, however, is very difficult for young and new parents to accomplish, which is why particularly during this COVID pandemic, increased stress and worsening outcomes were experienced by homeschoolers. Having inadequate spaces for learning, negative coping mechanisms, and lack of resources for the proper curricular content all contribute to a less-than optimal learning experience for children.

Paradoxically, however, the answer to these situations is not to simply lump children back into face-to-face classes, because the limitations of space and capacity for our schools, coupled with the necessity to maintain physical distancing guidelines brought by the pandemic, make it difficult to return to the old way of schooling. Coupling this with the weakening of the parents’ purchasing power, and the rising cost of daily expenses and fees, put parents at an impasse: what is the best way to make sure our children learn without sacrificing our mental and financial well-being?

We propose that parents consider enrolling their children in a school that provides an online distance learning program, that is conducted, managed and taught by the school through their faculty members using a video conferencing tool, such as Zoom Meetings, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams, and we are here to tell you four reasons why this is a good idea.

Online classes, if done right, can be effective. There are several ways to make this a reality:

The school should provide ample and sufficient time for interaction and guided supervision with the learners - pupils can not learn concepts if they only have an hour of guided learning for they day.

The school should provide materials and supplies for their learners to have a uniform and consistent experience - it is essential that all learners and teachers have the same tools that they are using to learn; you can not expect a pupil to learn the concept if they don’t have the material at home.

The school should ensure that all assessments and evaluation of learner’s performance are done by the teachers - parents are partners in the learning process, and should only be asked to provide video and photographic evidence of their child’s learning process.

Online classes are also more efficient for both the child and the school. Not all concepts and theories have to be taught in a face-to-face environment, but there are elements to learning and knowledge acquisition that require face-to-face interaction. This is why there has to be a supplemental face-to-face activity that is integrated into the curriculum of the school, and conducted regularly and frequently. However, teaching pupils how to count, and how to identify letters and number shapes, are not necessarily better conducted in person. After all, a generation ago, most parents learned about their ABCs and 123s by watching Sesame Street on their TVs.


Going to online classes are also more economical for the parents. Imagine not having to spend for gas, or for the bus service, to bring your children to school everyday! Having your kids at home will also reduce parent’s expenses for their children’s lunch money, daily. Schools have also offered a lower tuition fee rate for online classes, owing to the reduced expenses incurred in running these programs. Some schools’ online classes are discounted by as much as 80% from their face-to-face classes. You get the same level of education at a cheaper rate!

Lastly, going to online classes are definitely the safer alternative for children. Notwithstanding the COVID pandemic, and the fact that most young learners have either not received their vaccines, or have parents who are wary about the efficacy of these vaccines for young children, attending classes from the house is intuitively the safer alternative. You do not expose your children to the risks of contracting other illnesses from their peers; there is little risk for them to have a tumble or fall at home; and there is no risk for them getting into an accident on the way to school or on the way home. Then there is also the question about the safety of schools brought about by the prevalence of fi****ms. Learning from home eliminates any active shooter scenario for your child.
