The meeting centered on a possible collaboration between the two branches of government on the DOLE Programs. These programs include the implementation of Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD), DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP), the Government Internship Program (GIP), and the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES). Senate Public Assistance Office, Mabuhay Shriners International empower PWDs

In a testament to the power of collaboration, the Senate Public Assistance Office (SPAO) and Mabuhay Shriners International joined hands in providing vital mobility devices, such as wheelchairs, walkers and crutches for persons with disability in the City of Calapan, Oriental Mindoro.

In a turnover ceremony on October 11, 2023, Director General Lino S. Ong, Calapan City Mayor Marilou Morillo, and Mina De Oro Shrine Club First Vice President Edmundo Casanova unveiled the generous donation, comprising of 10 adult wheelchairs, 5 pediatric wheelchairs, 5 quad canes, 5 crutches, and 5 walkers. Mina De Oro Shriners Club is a chapter of Mabuhay Shriners in Oriental Mindoro.

A deeply moved Mayor Morillo expressed her heartfelt gratitude towards Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri and the Senate Public Assistance Office, stating, "We are very thankful at napagbigyan n'yo po kami. Thank you so much."

In his message, Director General Ong said the turnover was made possible through the guidance of Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri and upon the initiative of SPAO in accordance with its functions to effectively, efficiently and expeditiously provide assistance to the constituents of the senators.

He said the partnership was entered into in June 2022 during the tenure of former Senate President Vicente Sotto III. He emphasized, "Bilang institution, limitado po ang ating kakayahan at ating budget. Kaya sa ilalim ng konsepto na 'One Help, One Nation' na aming isinusulong sa SPAO, layunin namin na magkaroon ng collaboration at partnership sa iba't ibang institution, pampubliko man o pribado, para magtulung-tulungan sa pagbibigay ng tulong sa ating mga kababayan."

Director General Ong also stressed the significance of working in unity. "Itong turnover natin ngayon ay patunay sa power of collaboration. Mas marami tayong matutulungan at maaabot kung tayo ay magsasama-sama," he added.

Director General Ong said he hopes the event can set a precedent for other institutions, highlighting what can be achieved when organizations, whether public or private institutions, come together with a shared vision. # # #

Last August 30th, a momentous collaboration unfolded as the Senate Public Assistance Office (SPAO) led by 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗼 𝗦. 𝗢𝗻𝗴, 𝗕𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘂 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗮 𝗩𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗼-𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗮, 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝘆. 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗗. 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝗼, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗜 𝗟𝗲𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗶 𝗖. 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗮 came together with the OWWA Overseas Workers Welfare Administration under the capable leadership of 𝗢𝗪𝗪𝗔 𝗔𝗱𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗶𝗹 𝗜𝗴𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗼, 𝗔𝗙𝗠𝗢 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝗱𝗲𝗹𝘆𝗻 𝗔. 𝗗𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗻-𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗼, 𝗣𝗣𝗗𝗢 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗝𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗹𝘆𝗻 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗹, a for a pivotal meeting at the OWWA Central Office.

This meeting was a milestone event, fostering a dynamic dialogue to enhance programs and services aimed at assisting overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families. The commitment to improving the lives of our kababayans was palpable in the room.

Director Josephine Hapal of OWWA took the opportunity to immerse SPAO's in OWWA's operations, touring the OWWA Call Center and Public Assistance Center Desk within OWWA's premises. This immersive experience not only marked the beginning of a stronger partnership but also served as a benchmark for future endeavors.

SPAO in Action:

Officers Ma. Lourdes Camu and Jim Pesigan of the Medical Assistance Service and officers Renel Castillo and Julius Nuñez of the Social Assistance Service extended help and assistance to the public during the UNTV Cup Season 9 Opening Ceremony yesterday (November 21, 2022) at the SPAO's booth at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

SPAO, DSWD conduct briefing on various social assistance programs.

In line with the objective of providing effective, efficient and expeditious service to the public, the Senate Public Assistance Office – Social Assistance Service and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) recently held an orientation on various social assistance programs of the DSWD last October 18, 2022.

Atty. Jesus Fredrick D. Dayo, Director III (Service Chief) of the Social Assistance Service (SAS), gave an overview of the orientation to brief the senators and their staff on the DSWD's social assistance programs, which they can tap to extend help to their constituents in need of social assistance.

DWSD Program Management Bureau - Crisis Intervention Division of the Central Office Dir. III Rolando D. Villacorta Jr. and his team were also present. Dir. Villacorta conducted the orientation of the DWSD programs.

In line with the objective of providing effective, efficient and expeditious service to the public, the Senate Public Assistance Office – Medical Assistance Service and the Department of Health (DOH) recently held an orientation on various medical assistance programs of the DOH.

Ms. Marilyn O. Ferrolino, Director III of the Medical Assistance Service (MAS), said the orientation was conducted to brief the senators and their staff on the DOH’s medical assistance programs, which they can tap to extend help to their constituents in need of medical attention.

DOH Undersecretary Atty. Charade B. Mercado-Grande was also present at the orientation together with the Malasakit Program Office headed by Dir. Girlie S. Veloso.

Ano ang SPAO?

Ang SPAO ay ang tanggapan sa Senado na tumatanggap at nagpoproseso ng mga kaukulang requests pang-medikal tulad ng pambayad sa hospital, pambili ng gamot, o pagsasagawa ng laboratory procedures tulad chemotherapy at hemodialysis sa pakikipagtulungan at pakikipag-ugnayan sa iba’t ibang tanggapan ng mga senador at sa Department of Health.

Ang SPAO rin ay tumatanggap ng request for social assistance tulad ng burial assistance, transportation/Balik Probinsya, at iba pang uri ng social assistance sa pakikipag-ugnayan sa Department of Social Welfare and Development.
