Most people with preauricular sinuses are completely asymptomatic. However, these sinuses can drain a foul smelling discharge, and when this happens, they are prone to chronic infection. Once infected, preauricular sinuses rarely remain asymptomatic, giving rise to recurrent infections, cellulitis, or even abscess formation.

Removal of a preauricular sinus can be done under local anesthesia, and patients are discharged home the same day.

Tongue-tie, or ankyloglossia, is when an unusually short, thick or tight band of tissue tethers the bottom of the tongue's tip to the floor of the mouth. The band of tissue is called the frenulum. When it is too short or tight, it can restrict the tongue's range of motion.

At what age can tongue-ties be treated? This may sound surprising, but tongue-tie releases can be treated at any age! The procedure can be performed on a newborn infant or an older adult.
