Occupational Therapy 〰️ Speech Therapy 〰️ Physical Therapy 〰️ SPED
Grateful for the kind words from Mommy B about her daughter’s speech and occupational therapy journey. It is heartwarming to see this development!
The progress she has made is a testament to the family’s consistent attendance and dedication to carry over management at home. This is also not possible without the passionate care from our therapists! This is truly a team effort 🎉👏🏻
Thank you for trusting us with your daughter. 💙💛
When little ones work together, big progress happens! 👫✨ Dyad therapy sessions for speech and occupational therapy help kids connect, learn, and grow in a fun and supportive environment. Let’s unlock their potential together! 🌈🗣️🖐️
What are dyad sessions?
- Dyad sessions are when we pair up two children in the same room where they have individual support from a therapist throughout the session.
Why do children need dyad therapy support?- While play and making friends are among the primary occupations of children, many children find it difficult to regulate themselves in a group, forge more meaningful connections with peers, interact with others or participate in activities with other children. Dyad sessions may be the first step or the missing link to your child’s social journey. This, together with a trained therapist, provides children with a safe environment to practice and acquire skills necessary to successfully interact with others.
How is this done?
- This typically done through the recommendation of your therapist or developmental pediatrician
- a parent may also ask the clinic administration or his/her therapist for an assessment.
- The readiness of your child to dyad session will be discussed along with its advantages.
- The therapist may recommend to attend both individual and dyad sessions or just either.
- The therapist could only pair children whose goals and skills compliment and match .
- This is open to children of all ages.

What do some parents have to say about their experience in last year’s special program?
Here is what one mother had to say about her son’s speech therapy journey. They have been continuously attending occupational and speech therapy since November 2022 and and the progress has been exponential.
Grateful for the kind words, mommy!
As part of our continuous mission to make therapy accessible to every child and supporting the development of the profession, we are happy to announce that we are accepting clients again for our special program at discounted rates!

Yes, it’s convenient and just as fun! We are providing a service where location does not dictate therapy options any longer.
With improving technology and the growth of telemedicine, various medical practitioners including speech-language pathologists can now offer speech therapy services online.
Online speech therapy is an evidence-based practice and should offer the same quality as in-person services. This is appropriate and effective for many services speech-language pathologists provide. Online speech therapy may offer more flexibility than in-person services, and it increases access to speech therapists for people who aren’t able to travel to a provider’s location. Here, you’ll work with a speech therapist over a live video session.
Usually, a parent or caregiver is asked to stay with the child to facilitate some activities, carry-out a prompt or assist with gadget-use. The level of parent or caregiver assistance is dependent on the age and skills of the child. As online therapy with a child relies on adult supervision, this naturally provides an avenue for the caregivers/ parent to have one-on-one coaching and a hands-on experience in facilitating the goals and skills of the child.
Tools needed:
- stable internet connection
- tablet, laptop or computer
- functioning video camera
- functioning internal or external microphone
- functioning speakers or headphones
- Zoom application

Time for this reminder!
This is my most widely shared post. And rightly so, it’s an important one. These are “prewriting patterns”, with the average (but not prescribed) age at which children are developmentally ready to achieve these patterns listed below them in years and months. Being able to process visual information and produce a movement in response (e.g. copying these prewriting patterns or letter formations), is known as “visual motor integration”.
Note that an X is not typically achieved until 4 years 11 months, and a triangle at 5 years 3 months. If a child can’t form these basic shapes...then they probably won’t be able to form letters. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
It is quite concerning then that there are 3 year 7 month olds starting formal schooling (in Western Australia at least), where they’re expected to write. Not only are their visual motor integration skills not developed enough, their hands are also physically under-developed. In addition, recognising letters, understanding phonics and beginning to read are all needed in order for a child to write meaningfully, skills which children starting kindy typically don’t have. We also know that when a child learns something that doesn’t hold meaning, it‘s unlikely to stick.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
So if you have a 3-4 year old who spontaneously asks or attempts to write letters, that’s great; otherwise, there is no need to initiate or worry about this. Unfortunately there is a misconception, particularly with the way that the current curriculum and expectations stand, that earlier is better. Earlier is not always better.
Preschool children should be focusing on the foundation skills needed for writing, and most of this can be achieved through PLAY. Big body movements like running and jumping and climbing to strengthen the core, shoulders and hands; playing and tinkering with small parts and toys to develop fine motor skills and the coordination and strength needed to grasp a pencil; drawing and experimenting with shapes; and finally guidance from adults on how to form individual letters efficiently, BEFORE writing words and sentences.
Please note that this message does not translate to “don’t teach prewriting patterns” or “don’t get help if you’re concerned” - it is more to ease the minds of parents who may be concerned that their child is “behind”.
