Lampara Books has published a children's book titled "Ako ay May T**i," written by Genaro R. Gojo Cruz and illustrated by Beth Parrocha. A review from someone who purchased the book reads, "This is a very good book for toddlers and preschoolers. It discusses an important part of the body using an appropriate language and tone."

Several people also showed support for the book, saying that discussing private body parts with children should not be taboo anymore. They said that it promotes awareness among children about their body and how to take care of it, which will help them avoid and identify child and sexual abuses.

The book is recommended for children five years old and above. (Facebook/Lampara Books)

is the optimal source of nutrition through the first year of life. We recommend exclusively breastfeeding for about the first six months of a baby's life, and then gradually adding solid foods while continuing breastfeeding until at least the baby's first birthday. Thereafter, breastfeeding can be continued for as long as both mother and baby desire it.

Breastfeeding should begin as soon as possible after birth, usually within the first hour. Newborns should be nursed whenever they show signs of hunger—approximately eight to twelve times every twenty-four hours. The amount of time for each feeding and the frequency of feeding vary widely for each mother-baby pair. It is important to recognize signs that the baby is getting milk, particularly after the first few days of life. These signs include four to eight wet diapers and three to four loose, seedy stools per day.

You've just fed your baby breast milk or formula only to watch him or her spit up what seems like all of it. Is this normal?

▪️What causes spitting up?
Spitting up is common in healthy babies. During their first three months, about half of all babies experience their stomach contents coming back up into the esophagus, a condition known as gastroesophageal reflux, infant reflux or infant acid reflux.
Most babies stop spitting up by age 12 months.

▪️What can you do to reduce spitting up?

Consider these tips:

•Keep your baby upright. Feed your baby in a more upright position. Follow each feeding with 30 minutes in an upright position. Avoid immediate active play or use of an infant swing.
•Avoid overfeeding. Feeding your baby smaller amounts, more frequently might help.
•Take time to burp your baby. Frequent burps during and after each feeding can keep air from building up in your baby's stomach.
•Put baby to sleep on his or her back. To reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), it's important to place your baby to sleep on his or her back. Placing a baby to sleep on his or her tummy to prevent spitting up isn't recommended.

▪️Can spitting up be a sign of a problem?
Certain signs and symptoms might indicate an underlying condition or something more serious than run-of-the-mill spitting up. Contact your baby's doctor if your baby:

Isn't gaining weight
Spits up forcefully
Spits up green or yellow fluid
Spits up blood or a material that looks like coffee grounds
Refuses feedings repeatedly
Has blood in his or her stool
Has difficulty breathing or other signs of illness
Begins spitting up at age 6 months or older
Cries for more than three hours a day and is more irritable than normal
Has fewer wet diapers than usual

More details about Japanese Encephalitis.

The risk of becoming infected with Japanese encephalitis is highest during and just after rainy seasons.

This is because mosquito populations tend to increase suddenly around this time.

Pigs and wading birds are the main carriers of the Japanese encephalitis virus.

A mosquito becomes infected after sucking the blood from an infected animal or bird.

If you get bitten by an infected mosquito, it can pass on the virus.

The mosquitoes that carry Japanese encephalitis usually breed in rural areas, particularly where there are flooded rice fields, although infected mosquitoes have also been found in urban areas.

They usually feed between sunset and sunrise.

Japanese encephalitis cannot be passed from person to person.

My unico hijo just got his Japanese Encephalitis Vaccine today! 🎉

An insight about this vaccine.
Japanese encephalitis (JE) is an infection of the brain caused by the Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV). While most infections result in little or no symptoms, occasional inflammation of the brain occurs. In these cases, symptoms may include headache, vomiting, fever, confusion and seizures.
It is caused by a flavivirus, which can affect both humans and animals. The virus is passed from animals to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito.

Aaaaww crying baby! She got her Pneumococcal Prevnar13 vaccine.

A little insight about this vaccine.
Prevnar 13 vaccine is used to prevent infection caused by pneumococcal bacteria. Prevnar 13 contains 13 different types of pneumococcal bacteria. Pneumococcal disease is a serious infection caused by a bacteria. Pneumococcal bacteria can infect the sinuses and inner ear.

The photo attached is my baby’s back. 🥰

Mongolian spots are present at birth, and most of them fade (at least somewhat) by age two. Most have completely disappeared by age five. If Mongolian spots remain at puberty, they are likely to be permanent. Fewer than five percent of children with Mongolian spots still have any by adulthood. Those who do tend to be the ones with multiple, widespread spots, or with spots in unusual locations.

Mongolian spots are congenital birthmarks found on the lower backs, buttocks, sides and sometimes shoulders, of primarily infants with East Asian heritage (but also East African, Native American, Polynesians, Micronesians and Latin American). They typically disappear 3-5 yrs after birth. 😉

The hiccups happen when the baby’s diaphragm contracts. This forces air out through closed vocal chords, creating the hiccupping sound.

Hiccups in babies tend to occur for no apparent reason, but feeding can occasionally cause the diaphragm to spasm. They may happen when a baby:
-overfeeds
-eats too quickly
-swallows too much air

Hiccups do not normally harm a baby. While adults may find hiccups uncomfortable, they tend to cause less distress in babies.

👍🏻 Here’s some tips to avoid hiccups:

1. Taking a break to burp the baby
-When the stomach fills with air, it may push on the diaphragm, causing spasms. Taking a break from feeding to burp the baby may reduce the amount of air in their stomach. This can prevent hiccups.

2. Using a pacifier
-Sucking on a pacifier may help to relax the diaphragm and stop hiccupping.

3. Feeding them gripe water
-Gripe water is a mixture of herbs and water. It is traditionally used to treat colic and other stomach problems.

The herbs usually contained in gripe water include:
ginger
fennel
chamomile
cinnamon

4. Rubbing the baby’s back
-Rubbing their back and rocking the baby back and forth can help them to relax. This may stop the spasms that cause hiccups.

🛑 What not to do 🛑

Some well-known remedies for hiccups are entirely rooted in tradition and have no scientific basis. These include:

making a person jump
pulling their tongue
making them sip water while upside down
It is a bad idea to try these, and many other home remedies, on a baby. These supposed remedies can distress a baby and may even be dangerous. They are unlikely to stop the hiccups.

Monday's medical myth: You can catch a cold by getting cold.

If you stay out for too long in the cold, you may start shivering, your hands are cold to touch and fingers go white. You breathe faster and your heart rate picks up. All this happens as the sympathetic nervous system is activated to preserve heat.

These symptoms are similar to those you experience when you have a cold.

As the immune system begins its fight against the cold virus, it resets the brain’s control of body temperature. So instead of running close to 37°C, the immune system releases pyrogens, which turn up the heat and establish a new temperature at which the body will run.

This is usually experienced as feeling cold because, from the brain’s point of view, you are colder than it wants you to be. So it makes you shiver, breath faster, and shuts down your peripheries in exactly the same way as it does when trying to cope with cold weather.

The other confusing factor is that colds are more common in colder months and least common in summer, so they’re temporally associated with cold.

When it’s cold, people are more likely to spend longer periods indoors at close proximity to others. This makes it easier for infectious droplets of mucus, which are coughed, sneezed, or passed on via hands, to transmit from one person to another.

So the association with cold weather is an example of a confounding factor rather than a causal link. For example, people who carry matches are more likely to develop lung cancer.

Baby got Rotavirus vaccine. Yay! 👧🏻
A little idea about this vaccine. It is used to protect against rotavirus infections, which are the leading cause of severe diarrhea among young children. The vaccines prevent 15–34% of severe diarrhea in the developing world and 37–96% of severe diarrhea in the developed world.
