September 10 | Bl. Francis Gárate
Bl. Francis Gárate was born in Recarte in the Basque region of northern Spain in 1857. At the age of 14, he began working as a domestic servant at the Jesuit college in Orduna before joining the Society of Jesus as a Brother. He served as infirmarian and sacristan at the Jesuit college in La Guardia from 1877 to 1888.
For the next 40 years, he was the doorkeeper at the University of Deusto in Bilbao. Gárate is remembered for the ordinary things and the kindness that he gave to students during his many years working as the doorkeeper.
Happy Birhtday, Fr. Stephen “Pen” T. Abuan, SJ!
Congratulations Fr. RB Hizon, SJ on your profession of Final Vows in the Society of Jesus. AMDG! 😁
September 9 | St. Peter Claver
St. Peter Claver was born in Catalonia, Spain. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1602 at Tarragona. During his study of philosophy at Montesion, Palma in Majorca, he came under the influence of the saintly porter, Brother Alphonsus Rodriguez. Rodriguez encouraged Claver's desire to do something great for God and suggested he consider being a missionary in the New World. After completing his theological studies in Bogotá, Claver was sent to Cartagena on the Caribbean coast where he was ordained a priest in 1616. There he spent the rest of his life, ministering to slaves who worked in the mines and plantations.
St. Peter Claver, you were a faithful imitator of the example of Jesus in the midst of his own people. Teach us to bear witness to him, to become better people, and not to ignore our fellow human beings, especially those who suffer because of their condition. We ask this of you through Jesus, the Christ, our Lord and our brother, who lives with the Father and the Holy Spirit today and forever. Amen.

O God, by whom we are redeemed and receive adoption,
look graciously upon your beloved sons and daughters,
that those who believe in Christ
may receive true freedom
and an everlasting inheritance.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

Happy Birthday, Fr. Danilo “Danny” B. G***r, SJ!
When asked what he likes most about being a Jesuit brother, Br. JP Socrates SJ said: The brotherhood opens up unique and creative paths of serving God and being in mission. Sacramental ministry is of paramount importance, but there are infinite ways of proclaiming the Gospel other than as ordained priests. A brother, for me, witnesses to the breadth and richness of what it means to be a religious, and to be a disciple of Christ!
Br. JP is a lawyer and has just passed the bar exam before entering the Jesuits. Currently, he is in Loyola House of Studies undergoing his first studies formation.

The Tertians of the Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific (JCAP) have begun their program at the Loyola House of Studies, under the guidance of their Tertian Masters, Fr. Ramon Bautista, SJ, and Fr. Priyono Marwan, SJ.
This year, the JCAP Tertianship comprises ten Jesuits in their final stage of formation: Alexe Pak Chong-Hwan SJ (CHN), Gil Donaire SJ (PHI), Egon Hriberšek SJ (SVN), Cao Tai Le SJ (VIE), Joel Liwanag SJ (PHI), Vaidas Lukosevicius SJ (ECE), Dinh Khai Nguyen SJ (VIE), Roberto Quirós Tomás SJ (ESP), Michael Alan Rossmann SJ (UMI), and Chester Yacub SJ (PHI).
Tertianship is a period of renewal where Jesuits revisit the foundational documents and history of the Society of Jesus. Much like during their novitiate, Jesuits in Tertianship once again undertake the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, also known as the Long Retreat. This 30-day silent retreat is a time for deep prayer and reflection, allowing the Lord to work within them. In addition to the retreat, the Tertians participate in various experiences designed to strengthen their vocation and deepen their love for God and the Church.
September 2 | Bl. James Bonnaud and Companions; Joseph Imbert and John Nicholas Cordier; Thomas Sitjar and Companions; John Fausti and Companions
The Supplement to the Roman Missal for Celebrations Proper to the Society of Jesus refers to these Jesuits as "Martyrs due to the hatred of the name Christian and of the Catholic Church."
James Bonnaud and 22 other Jesuit priests were martyred in 1792 during the French Revolution, because they refused to sign the oath in support of the Civil Constitution of the Clergy passed by the National Constituent Assembly.
Joseph Imbert and John Nicolas Cordier were victims of the violence during the Reign of Terror in 1794 when they refused to sign the oath.
Thomas Sitjar and ten other Jesuits, who worked clandestinely after the Society of Jesus was exiled from Spain in 1932, were captured and martyred in Gandia and Valencia in 1936 at the start of the Spanish Civil War.
John Fausti, from Italy and Vice Provincial of Albania, and two other Jesuits, Daniel Dajani (rector of the Pontifical Seminary in Shkodër) and Brother Gjon Pantalia, were martyred in 1946 and 1947 during the Albanian persecution.
O Lord, as we commemorate these Jesuit martyrs, may You expand our minds and hearts that we my set aside our own interests and seek only those of Jesus Christ.
Gov. Dennis Socrates visited Culion together with the project engineering team for the Groundbreaking Ceremony and Blessing of the Slope Protection Seawall in front of the IP Scholar's Dormitory of the Loyola College of Culion.
This seawall will not only protect the coastal road and the IP Dorm from erosion damage but also better ensure the safety of LCC's resident IP scholars.

Happy Birthday, Fr. Mateo “Mat” A. Sanchez, SJ!
There is a growing sensitivity to the environment and the need to protect nature, along with a growing concern, both genuine and distressing, for what is happening to our planet… Our goal is not to amass information or to satisfy curiosity, but rather to become painfully aware, to dare to turn what is happening to the world into our own personal suffering and thus to discover what each of us can do about it. MEET OUR BROTHERS! Jesuit brothers are truly and fully Jesuits, called and strengthened by the Lord to minister and work in the Church. They do not preside over the Sacraments but through their vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, they are able to devote their lives for God’s greater glory. Their vocation is marked by humility, flexibility, and radical love. Thank God for our brothers! 😍

Thank you, Diocese of Cubao - Public Affairs Ministry, for partnering with Simbahang Lingkod ng Bayan in the mission of putting people back at the center of politics! On August 24, we gathered at the Obispado de Cubao for a powerful Kuwentuhang Bayan (KB) session and trained representing leaders and coordinators from the parishes in six (6) different vicariates.
This session was more than just a conversation—it was a step towards meaningful change, bringing together voices from all walks of life to envision a future where communities are empowered, and citizens are at the forefront of political renewal. We are grateful for our implementing partner's unwavering support and commitment to this shared vision.
🤝 Collaborate with Us: Join us in this transformative journey. Let’s empower more communities and build a more just society together.
"[Fr. Ben Nebres'] motto, in not so many words, is: Children can’t be educated and they can’t think unless they are first fed..
Father Ben shared a story that helped cement his mission. After one feeding session, a child smiled and announced, in the vernacular, “So this is what it’s like to be full.”
What the child actually said is, word for word, more heartbreaking in Tagalog: “Ito pala ang pakiramdam ng busog.”No glossy children’s book is going to encourage children to read if those same children are hungry for food, a chance to be heard, a chance to live in safety..
No book will be useful in the hands of a child whose brain and immune system are so poorly developed, the child can barely make sense of the lessons they’re pushed to absorb."
Of full stomachs and empty books A few weeks ago, I listened to a homily that explored nothingness. We were created out of nothing, the priest said, and we carry this nothingness within us because we have to constantly be
