A Marriage Encounter weekend is a process that married couples experience in the course of two or three days. This weekend gives spouses an opportunity to grow in their marriage through open and honest communication, face-to-face sharing, and heart to heart encounter in a comfortable, relaxed setting. NME invites and encourages married couples of all ages and faith expressions to share in this experience and to become an integral part of this journey.

Lent is a 40 day season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday. Itโs a period of preparation to celebrate the Lordโs Resurrection at Easter. During Lent, we seek the Lord in prayer by reading Sacred Scripture; we serve by giving alms; and we practice self-control through fasting. We are called not only to abstain from luxuries during Lent, but to a true inner conversion of heart as we seek to follow Christโs will more faithfully. We recall the waters of baptism in which we were also baptized into Christโs death, died to sin and evil, and began new life in Christ.
Many know of the tradition of abstaining from meat on Fridays during Lent, but we are also called to practice self-discipline and fast in other ways throughout the season. Contemplate the meaning and origins of the Lenten fasting tradition in this reflection. In addition, the giving of alms is one way to share Godโs giftsโnot only through the distribution of money, but through the sharing of our time and talents. As St. John Chrysostom reminds us: โNot to enable the poor to share in our goods is to steal from them and deprive them of life. The goods we possess are not ours, but theirs.โ (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 2446).
In Lent, the baptized are called to renew their baptismal commitment as others prepare to be baptized through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, a period of learning and discernment for individuals who have declared their desire to become Catholics.
Ash Wednesday is one of two yearly days of obligatory fasting and abstinence for Roman Catholics, along with Good Friday.
Fasting means a person is permitted to eat one full meal. Two smaller meals may also be taken, but they are not to equal that of a full meal.
The Rule of abstinence from meat is binding upon Catholics aged 14 and onwards.
โFor all other weekdays of Lent, we strongly recommend participation in daily Mass and a self-imposed observance of fasting,โ the bishops wrote in the Pastoral Statement on Penance and Abstinence. โIn the light of grave human needs which weigh on the Christian conscience in all seasons, we urge, particularly during Lent, generosity to local, national, and world programs of sharing of all things needed to translate our duty to penance into a means of implementing the right of the poor to their part in our abundance.
We also recommend spiritual studies, beginning with the Scriptures as well as the traditional Lenten Devotions (sermons, Stations of the Cross, and the rosary), and all the self-denial summed up in the Christian concept of โmortification
Lent starts when we celebrate Ash Wednesday.
During Lent, we strive to spend more time in prayer, give alms, and do penance for our sins.
I made a simple printable that families can use as a reference or guide on meaningful activities that they can do as a family, and be drawn closer to God and to each other during the Lenten season.
Here are 40 recommended activities that your family can do this Lent. I chose simple and very doable activities here.

๐ด๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ซ๐๐, February 11, 2024, the second Sunday of February, is observed annually in dioceses and parishes throughout the world as an opportunity to focus on building a culture of life and love that begins with supporting and promoting marriage and the family. The theme for World Marriage Day 2024 is "๐ณ๐๐๐ ๐ฉ๐๐๐๐๐
๐พ๐๐๐
๐" - the permanent, faithful and fruitful love in a sacramental marriage is truly beyond words.
The Family and Life Commission commemorate World Marriage Day by incorporating prayers and blessings for marriage into this day. This year we also focus on our initiative, Eฬณnฬณcฬณoฬณuฬณrฬณaฬณgฬณiฬณnฬณgฬณ ฬณCฬณaฬณtฬณhฬณoฬณlฬณiฬณcฬณ ฬณWฬณeฬณdฬณdฬณiฬณnฬณgฬณsฬณ, to shine light on the beauty of Catholic marriage for engaged couples and their families.
World Marriage Day is an outgrowth of Worldwide Marriage Encounter, an apostolate aimed at helping couples make good marriages even better. World Marriage Day began in 1983 and is celebrated every second Sunday of February .In 1993, his Holiness, Pope John Paul II, imparted his Apostolic Blessings on World Marriage Day. The purpose of World Marriage Day is to highlight the beauty of marriage and to honor husbands and wives for their faithfulness and sacrifices.
World Marriage Day does not emphasize marriage to the detriment of other vocations, however. The mission of its founding organization Worldwide Marriage Encounter is โto proclaim the value of Marriage and Holy Orders in the Church and in the world.โ
By observing and supporting World Marriage Day, the Family and Life Commission reaffirms its commitment to upholding the sanctity of marriage and promoting the well-being of families as foundational elements of society.

Todayโs Feast marks the conclusion of the Christmas Season and the beginning of Ordinary Time. Itโs a feast of transition from Jesusโ hidden life to that of His public ministry. It also echoes the theme of the Epiphany in that the Baptism of the Lord is another manifestation announcing Jesusโ divinity to all of His first followers and to the disciples of John the Baptist.
First of all, it needs to be pointed out that Jesus did not need the baptism of John. John was baptizing as a call to and sign of interior repentance. Jesus had no need to repent. But, nonetheless, He comes to John. John resists at first but Jesus insists. Why did He receive baptism?
First, by accepting the baptism of John, Jesus affirms all that John has said and done and affirms his sacred role of preparing the way for Jesus and for a new era of grace. Therefore, the Baptism of Jesus acts as a bridge between the Old Testament prophets (of which John was the last) and the New Testament era of grace and truth.
Second, it has been said that when Jesus entered the waters of baptism, He was not baptized by the waters, rather, His Baptism was one in which all the created waters of this world were, in a sense, โbaptizedโ by Him. By entering into the waters, Jesus sanctified water and poured forth His grace making all water the future source of salvation.
Third, the Baptism of Jesus was an epiphany. It was a moment of manifestation. As He emerged from the waters, โHeaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from Heaven, โYou are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.โโ This manifestation of the sonship and divinity of Jesus took place in a physical, audible and visible form so that all present would know, without question, that Jesus was the Son of the Father. Thus, His baptism is a way in which the Father introduced His Son and His Sonโs mission to the world.
As we prepare to begin Ordinary Time, reflect, today, upon these words of the Father at the Baptism of Jesus. Hear the Father speaking to You about the divinity of His Son. Turn your eyes to Jesus and prepare yourself to follow Him and to heed every word He speaks. He was sent into this world to draw us to the Father, allow Him to fulfill that mission in your own life.

Ang pagsakripisyo ng mga magulang sa anak ay bahagi ng pagmamahal ng magulang. Kaya mahalaga na maturuan natin ang ating mga anak kung paano magsakripisyo para lumaki sila na marunong magmahal.

PRAYER
Father God, the star that led the Magi to the stable announced to the world that its Saviour was born. Today we live in a world that is still covered by darkness, and still needing to make that journey to the stable door. May our lives reflect your light day by day, as we seek to serve where you have placed us. That we might be the means through which others can encounter Jesus Christ. Amen
"As we stand on the threshold of a new year, let us pause to reflect on the blessings we've received, the challenges we've overcome, and the lessons we've learned.
In the embrace of our families, amidst the joys and trials, we discover the essence of love, solidarity, and unwavering support. Let this New Year be a testament to the strength we find in unity, the resilience in our bonds, and the commitment to nurture and protect each member of our family.
May our homes be filled with prayers, understanding, laughter, and compassion. Let us strive to create spaces where forgiveness mends any rifts and where understanding bridges differences.
In the richness of life, may we treasure each moment spent together, cherishing the small victories and finding solace in our shared experiences. Let us prioritize togetherness, making time for meaningful conversations, shared meals, and moments of genuine connection.
As we embark on this new chapter, let us pledge to strengthen the fabric of our families, instill values of kindness and empathy in our children, and be pillars of support for one another.
May the New Year be a canvas for us to paint beautiful memories, forge deeper bonds, and uphold the sanctity of family life. Together, let us build a future filled with hope, joy, and unconditional love.
Wishing you and your families a blessed and joyous New Year, filled with countless moments of love, peace, and prosperity.

Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph
Prayer
Dear Lord,
Bless our family.
Be so kind as to give us the unity, peace, and
mutual love that You found in Your own family
in the little town of Nazareth.
Saint Joseph,
pray for the head of our family.
Obtain for him the strength, the wisdom,
and the prudence he needs
to support and direct those under his care.
Mother Mary,
pray for the mother of our family.
Help her to be pure and kind,
gentle and self-sacrificing.
For the more she resembles you,
the better will our family be.
Lord Jesus,
bless the children of our family.
Help them to be obedient and
devoted to their parents.
Make them more and more like You.
Let them grow, as You did,
in wisdom and strength and grace
before God and man.
Holy Family of Nazareth,
by your intercession, love, and holy example,
make our family and home
more and more like Yours,
until we are all one family,
happy and at peace
in our true home with You.
Amen.
