Today we celebrate the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, a day that calls us to reflect deeply on the immense sacrifice Jesus Christ made for all of humanity.

The cross, once a symbol of shame, suffering, and death, has been transformed by Christ’s love into a powerful sign of hope, salvation, and eternal life.

On this day, we are reminded of the depth of God’s love for us—a love so great that He sent His only Son to die on the cross to redeem us from sin and offer us the promise of everlasting life. The cross teaches us about humility, obedience, and the triumph of love over hatred and despair.

Let us take time today to meditate on the mystery of the cross and allow its message to strengthen our faith.

As we carry our own crosses in life, we can find courage and comfort in knowing that Christ walks with us, and through His sacrifice, we have the hope of sharing in His resurrection.

May we live out the teachings of Christ by embracing love, forgiveness, and self-giving, just as He did on the cross.

May the holy Triune God and Our Dear Blessed Mother bless you always and in all ways!

In the first reading, St. Paul reminds us that the runners run in the race, but only one wins the prize. Do you want to win the prize? Jesus challenges us in today's Gospel. There are three important lessons from the words of Jesus from Luke 6:39-42 and Jesus encourages us to reflect on the following:

First: “Can a blind person guide a blind person?” Jesus is telling us that to win the prize, be aware and be humble. This highlights the importance of self-awareness and recognizing our own shortcomings before attempting to guide or correct others. It teaches us to be humble and acknowledge our own limitations.

Second: “No disciple is superior to the teacher.” Jesus reminds us of the role of a teacher. This emphasizes that the teacher, in this case Jesus, is the ultimate authority and guide. As disciples of the Divine Word, we must be willing to learn from Jesus, our teacher and from the other teachers, and not to consider ourselves above the teachings.

Third: “Why do you notice the splinter in your brother's eyes but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own?” In order to win the prize, we should address our own mistakes, our flaws first. Jesus encourages us first to address and correct our own faults before attempting to point out the faults in others. One of the things that truly helped me in the formation is to reflect within and see my mistakes and my faults rather than looking at the faults of others. It promotes introspection and personal growth before extending judgment or criticism to others.

These lessons from the words of Jesus emphasize the importance of self-awareness, humility and focusing on our own growth before trying to guide or correct others. They remind us of the hierarchial relationship between the teacher and the disciple, and the need to address our own shortcomings before addressing those of others. These three important lessons from the words of Jesus in today's Gospel will help us get win the award, the prize. Amen.

The Gospel reading that we just heard continues The Sermon on the Mount. Every sentence in our Gospel today is a potential homily material. The command of the Lord to love one's enemies seems to be beyond the capacity of man. The Commandment is troubling, it is revolutionary, uncommon, demanding; at the same time Jesus's call to love one's enemies is unrelenting.

My dear friends, this part of the Sermon on the Mount is probably the most radical command of Christianity that requires extraordinary and even heroic efforts. What does the Lord mean when he said love your enemies, pray for those who persecute you, stop judging and you will not be judged, stop condemning and you will not be condemned?

Does Jesus mean that we should have enemies and then in some mysterious manner love them at the same time? Or does the Lord mean we should not have enemies at all taking into consideration that Jesus is speaking about the disciples and their persecutors? We see that enemies here are the people who hated and persecuted the disciples, because disciples are not supposed to hate anyone, they should have no enemies, they should love everybody.

Similarly, Christians like us, if we can, should have no enemies. It means if we are cursed, we should not curse in return; if we are mistreated, we should not mistreat others in return; if we are bashed, we should not bash others in return; if we are mocked, judged, or condemned, we should not mock, judge, or condemn others in return. We cannot control how others treat us but we can control how we treat other people. “Give the other cheek as well”, the Lord says and we realize it is not easy.

What are the reasons for loving one's enemies? The Bible cites a number of reasons why we should love our enemies. God's commandment is a commandment to love, that is why Christianity is not easy. Christianity is for the brave. In another event in the gospel, the Lord says, “A new command I give you, Love one another; as I have loved you, so you also must love one another.”

In another point, the Lord said, “But I tell you who hear me, love your enemies; do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who mistreat you.” In the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans, St. Paul says never repay injury with injury, and see that your conduct is honorable in the eyes of all.” There are many other biblical passages that we can site about the commandment to love one's enemies, but Jesus remains the greatest teacher and example in loving one's enemies. For even as they were leading the Lord out to a shameful public ex*****on on the cross, our Lord was still able to say, “Father, forgive them because they do not know what they are doing.”

I remember a beautiful homily by Pope Francis some years ago and in speaking about Jesus's commandment to love one's enemies. This is what Pope Francis said, “Let yourself be healed by Jesus. Allow yourself to be healed by the Lord. We all have wounds, everybody; spiritual wounds, anger, hostility, jealousy, hatred, and envy. Perhaps we do not even talk to someone at home, or in the workplace; and we do not talk to one or the other of our family members or relatives and we let it go on for years. Pope Francis adds, “Let us ask that Jesus heal our wound. It is sad in a family when siblings do not speak to each other over a small matter because the devil takes a small matter and makes a world out of it.”

Finally, forgiveness is man's deepest need and forgiveness is also man's highest achievement. You see, loving one’s enemies is not purely a human act; loving one's enemies is a divine act. Amen.

The gospel is about the Beatitudes of Jesus and let's look at the significance these Beatitudes. First, it is the most concise summary of the spiritual life, not only for Catholics Christians, but for all humanity. The purpose of the Beatitudes is to inspire Christians, including all humans, to live according to the traits of Jesus and how Jesus describes all these traits. The Beatitudes is part of Jesus's sermon, and there are two versions of his sermon. The Sermon on the Mount of Matthew; and today's gopel, Luke's version, the Sermon on the Plain.

We will focus on Luke's version from the gospel for today, chapter 6:20-26. The Beatitudes of Jesus are: “Blessed are you who are poor, blessed are you who are hungry, blessed are you who are weeping, and blessed are you when people hate you,” And his version continues, “But woe to you who are rich…, But woe to you who are filled now,...Woe to you who laugh now,... Woe to you when all speak well of you…”

What now are the rewards? If you are poor, the kingdom of God is yours; if you're hungry you will be satisfied; if you're weeping, you will laugh; when people hate you, rejoice and leap for joy on that day! Behold, your reward will be great in heaven.

So what is Jesus's attitude?

The Be Happy attitude.

Be affirming, see the beauty in others. Have the best attitude. This is the Beatitudes from Luke's version. we have the best attitudes and yes, be happy. Amen

Our Story

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE SHRINE OF THE DIVINE WORD

In the 2005 provincial Chapter resolution was approved, namely “TO MANDATE THE PROVINCIALATE TO TAKE STEPS FOR THE ER****ON OF CKMS CHAPEL AS A SHRINE OR PARISH.

The first step that the provincialate took was to appoint an administrator of the CKMS chapel to prepare the groundwork for its moving to become a shrine. During lent in 2005 Fr. Dante Venus was the first to take this position. But due to unforeseen events Venus could not continue, and so on May 2005 Fr, Alfredo Sabado was appointed as the 2nd Administrator of the proposed shrine – with one-year tenure. He was considered fit for the position since he was the coordinator of for the JPIC and one of the implementors of new ministries.

Some of the objectives of the Shrine project were:
1. To implement the SVD prophetic dialogue in the Diocese of Cubao and the archdiocese.
2. To mobilize SVD’s and the laity for activities manifesting the SVD characteristic dimension.

The Shrine administrator was supervised, supported and closely guided by the parish priest of Sacred Heart, Fr. Manuel Bongayan to whose parish the proposed shrine belongs. He also acted as liason with the local ordinary, being at the same time the episcopal vicar for religious in the diocese.

The SHP of Kamuning helped mobilize its three mini-parishes around CKMS to support the project. These mini-parishes and the existing lay organizations based at the CKMS formed the mass base and moving power of the shrine.
