Tip toeing is a common pattern in early childhood when they learn how to walk. Typically, by the age of 2, most children adapt a conventional heel-to-toe walking pattern, thus, discontinuing tip toeing. However, if tiptoeing still continues to happen after 3 years old, it could mean that your child’s leg muscles may be weak.
Here are some activities that can help:
1. Jumping on stepping stones - this allows the heel of the foot to be the first point of contact to the ground.
2. Walking on a straight line using a wooden board or balance beam - this motivates the child to stride with substantial steps, adapting a "heel-toe" walking pattern.
3. Jumping on hurdles - engaging in jumping activities encourages children to maintain full contact with the surface using their feet
4. Walking up the slide - walking up the slide can facilitate a stretch on the calf muscles.
5. Stepping on unstable or uneven surfaces - helps in bringing down their heels for balance.

Just casually sharing fun learning moments from our team’s recent vision seminar. We surely enjoyed and learned so much from this and we’re excited to share it with you! 🫰🏽
Fun fact: Approximately 80% of learning comes from our visual system!
At Kids Can, we are proud to partner with Dr. Mamiko Sy, a certified Behavioral Optometrist, to provide the best possible care for your child. We greatly appreciate this collaboration and are excited to share the benefits with all of you!
Visual therapy is a comprehensive approach that goes beyond improving visual acuity. It addresses visual perceptual and visual motor problems, which involve interpreting and coordinating visual information. By utilizing targeted exercises and activities, visual therapy enhances these skills, supporting a child's overall visual processing abilities and promoting learning and development. It is not limited to optometrists but is also utilized by occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other professionals in the rehabilitation team. This multidisciplinary approach ensures comprehensive care for children with diverse needs.
For inquiries, please do not hesitate to send us a message or you may also directly contact Dr. Mamiko’s clinic: QCPH Vision Rehab & Development Center

When we talk about arousal, we mean how alert we are. What is it that we need in order to sustain our attention and perform at out best. We are all different in what it takes to keep our arousal at the best level. Some people can’t cope with any noise while they are trying to think, while others need to have music on constantly. Meeting our arousal needs depend on how we process our sensory information. The important thing to remember is that some people will need more of these sensory inputs to be at the optimum state of arousal and some will need less. We are then able to to “self-regulate” by getting our arousal levels right even when our environment changes. Self-regulating all of the sensory information can be very difficult for a child. When we work out what their sensory needs are we can help support them to meet their best arousal. ✨
