Working with Humans

Photos from The Fort Physio's post 12/05/2024

It’s been 7 months now and I can’t believe I’m moving forward at this rate. There are days when I still question if this is real, that I could never hear my mother’s voice anymore. 🕊️

From first-hand experience, grief does break people from the inside. I am a completely different person now after my anchor slipped away. ⚓️

Happy Mother’s Day to all! Take care of your Mamas! They won’t always be around. 💐

“No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.” 🏺

Let that sink in. 🗒️

Have you heard of the “Gate Control Theory” of pain? 💥

Pain and touch pass through the same pathway or gate. This is why when we bump our knee or elbow somewhere, we automatically hold it. Touching the painful area blocks the sensation of pain. 🚏🛑

‼️ BUT IT DOESN’T FIX THE PROBLEM. 📢

Electrotherapeutic devices like Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) are only useful in extreme cases of pain. It shouldn’t be a staple in physical therapy sessions. The light tapping sensation only makes the brain forget about the pain temporarily. It does not really help, unfortunately. 😞

FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT‼️📢

Posted • .samspinelli “Ice Baths Are A Game Changer”
“Training Knees Over Toes Eliminates All Knee Pain”
“Everyone Must Walk 10,000 Steps”
“Running Is the Best Way To Lose Weight”
Now let’s be clear, I’m not anti ice bath, anti knee over toes, anti walking, or anti running. However, I am anti unnecessary barriers and anti BS.
If you like Ice baths, you do you friend. However, it’s not some magical secret that has only recently been discovered as many would try to lead you. Should you find it aligns with your goals, then use it as you desire. For the majority of people, there’s either a better option or an equivalent option for most goals. Don’t feel obligated to do it. If you’re looking for enhanced recovery, doing something relaxing is probably going to be better suited to that. Personally I like jumping in the hot tub.
The same sentiment can be extended to knees over toes. If you go back into the fitness database you can find tons of people doing these “new” exercises, like the late Charles Poliquin. They’re not bad exercises, in fact, I like most of them and use them regularly. However, the idea that these are required to reduce knee pain or improve performance isn’t true. In most cases, selecting movements that challenge your lower body and progressively overloading it across time will be effective.
This idea that you have to walk 10k steps a day is unnecessary and can be daunting for many people. If your goal is to increase your overall health, walk more. It doesn’t need to be 10K. If you’re at 3000 right now, then aim for 3500 and chip away at it.
Running is a great activity. It can burn a lot of calories, which CAN be helpful for weight loss. However, it can also increase hunger considerably, which isn’t necessarily ideal for weight loss. If you enjoy running or are interested in improving your cardiovascular health, running is great, just don’t feel obligated to go running to lose weight.
What do you think I missed? What else is overhyped?

Merry Christmas! 🎄

Although it is not a joyful season for each one of us, there are always things to be grateful for. 🎁

Thank you to everyone who reached out to me, let me be and understood me when I’m not at my 💯% this year.

Life may be upside down for me right now but I’m still here, moving along, smiling, eyes on silver linings. 😁👌🏽

One of the most joyous moments this season was being included in the British Community’s “Things to be Grateful for in Manila” List. 🎁✨

Thank you for letting me share myself with you! 🇬🇧🇵🇭 Your recommendations have gone a long way for me. 🫶🏽 Maraming Salamat po sa inyo!

In 2013, I decided to permanently set foot in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), formerly known as “Fort Bonifacio”. I was sold by its slogan then, “Home of the Passionate Minds”.

It felt like a dynamic, multicultural community that I belonged in. 🌏🏙️

Mommy Rose, who consented to this photo and posting it, was one of my first patients in BGC. She made me realize how much simple movements can improve a person’s life as an individual and in fulfilling his/her/their role in society.

As we commemorate today, I looked back at that decision to commit to be The Fort’s go-to physiotherapist, hence calling myself . ✌🏽😬 It’s one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Thank you, for allowing me to share myself with this community. 🙏🏽

When trees age, they form more rings. When brains develop, they form deeper indentations, also known as “gyri”. Older trees become stronger and sturdier; mature brains become more powerful over time.

Sometimes, growth happens deep inside of us through biochemical processes. It is not readily perceptible. So if you see a person smiling and happy, acknowledge that it doesn’t always match what’s within.

Listen, empathize and communicate openly. Look them in the eye, tune in to their voice and observe what words they use. This will give you a clue as to what they are truly going through.
