APRIL is NATIONAL INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS MONTH!
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, through Proclamation No. 190 s. 2017 (issued on 04 April 2017), declared April of every year as National Intellectual Property Rights Month pursuant to his socio-economic agenda “to promote science, technology, and the creative arts to enhance innovation and creative capacity towards self-sustaining, inclusive development.”
The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) in fulfilling the President’s objective and carrying out the state’s broader mandate enshrined in Article XIV Section 13 of the 1987 Constitution to "protect and secure the exclusive rights of scientists, inventors, artists, and other gifted citizens to their intellectual property and creations, particularly when beneficial to the people," has chosen the theme “Itaguyod ang Yamang Isip Tungo sa Kaunlaran” or “Foster Intellectual Property for Development” for April 2018 to focus on the country’s intellectual property or its “yamang isip” as an instrument to spur innovation and creativity for the continued development of the country.
