As a Catholic and Jesuit institution, we celebrate October devotions, particularly because this month is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary, which holds deep historical and spiritual significance.
1. Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary: Observed on October 7, this feast was instituted by Pope St. Pius V in 1571. It commemorates the Battle of Lepanto, where a coalition of Catholic states achieved victory over the Ottoman fleet. This triumph was attributed to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, called upon through the Rosary, which established its importance as a powerful prayer in Catholic tradition.
2. Miracle of Fatima: Another momentous event linked to October is the Miracle of Fatima, which occurred on October 13, 1917. During this event, Mary appeared to three shepherd children, emphasizing the necessity of praying the Rosary for peace and conversion.
3. Feast of Our Lady of the Pillar: Celebrated on October 12, this feast honors Our Lady of the Pillar, recognized as the first Marian apparition in history. This event, which took place around A.D. 40, involved the Virgin Mary appearing to Saint James the Greater in Zaragoza, Spain. Notably, this apparition is believed to have happened while Mary was still alive, encouraging James in his missionary efforts in Spain, and inspiring him to continue his evangelistic mission despite challenges.
As we near the end of October, you are warmly invited to participate in a procession on October 30, 2024 (Wednesday) at 3:30 PM. We will gather in front of the Senior High School building. During our prayer of the Holy Rosary, we will contemplate the life, passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ through Mary's perspective. May we deepen our connection with Jesus through Mary's prayers, remaining steadfast in our faith, just as the jasper pillar symbolizes Maryโs presence during her appearance to Saint James. You may also bring the image of the Blessed Mother with you during the procession. Please bring your rosary.
Come and Celebrate with us in Advancing Ignatian Spirituality. Transforming Heart, Lives, and Minds.
