1st HED Research Conference at JMC Abbottabad hosted and organized by Govt. Postgraduate College Mandian on 27th December 2023 under the theme "Perspectives of Scientific & Literary Explorations"
Theme for Botany was "Harmonizing classic botanical wisdom with modern insights ". Conference abstracts were evaluated by Prof. Dr. Abbas Hussain and Prof. Dr. Shamila while the conference presentation was evaluated by Prof. Dr. Khalid Rasheed Khan.
All students of Botany presented their research work quite satisfactorily. The following students got positions.
Fizza Bibi and Mian Awais 1st, Ayesha Wakeel and Khafza Noreen 2nd and Kinza Akram got 3rd position respectively.
The session was also attended by Prof. Dr. Sadia Afzal, Prof. Dr. Shamila and Prof. Bazgha Jolee from Botany department GGPGC NO. 1 Abbottabad and Prof. Niaz from the Department of Botany GPGC NO 1 Abbottabad. Students and faculty of Botany participated in the event enthusiastically.
The Worthy Principal and Chairman Botany department (chief organizer of the conference) thanked all guests whose esteem presence graced the occasion.

On 8th December 2023, the faculty and Students of Botany participated in International Webinar on “Herbal product Development” hosted by Department of Pharmacy, Hazara University Manshera, Pakistan. The distinguished keynote speaker was Prof. Dr. PharkPhoom Panichayupkaranant Department of Pharmacognosy and Pharmaceutical Botany, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Price of Songkla University, Thailand. The Webinar enriched the importance of Herbals products and their usage in the modern days. The participants also received certificates of participation.

Hazara University

The Department of Botany hosted a one-day workshop on "Contemporary Developments in Plant Sciences." The distinguished keynote speaker was Prof. Dr. Arshad Mehmood Abbasi from COMSATS Abbottabad. While Prof. Dr. Shahzad Ahmed and Prof. Dr. Awais Arafien also supervised the students. Dr. Jawad Ahmad and Dr. Mahnoor Asif from Botany department provided valuable assistance to the resource persons during the workshop activities.

The Chairman of Botany department, Dr. Abbas Hussain Shah, extended a warm welcome to the guest speakers. The faculty members of Botany department Mr. Muhammad Aamir, Mr. Afrasiyab Ahmed and Mr. Syed Khuram Shahzad attended the workshop.

Concluding the session, Principal Prof. Dr. Azhar Mehmood expressed gratitude to the esteemed resource persons and commended Botany department for successful organization of the workshop.

The faculty of Botany and Students from Govt. Girls Degree College Sara E Sala visited the Department of Botany Govt. Post Graduate College Mandian Abbottabad. They were welcomed by Principal Prof. Dr. Azhar Mehmood and Chairman Department of Botany Prof. Dr. Abbas Hussain Shah. A comprehensive Presentation on the various research projects such as the Botanical Garden, Aquaponics, Digitization of Herbarium, Mushroom, and Tissue culture, was given by Mr. Afrasiyab Ahmed (Lecturer) to the guest professors and students.
Later on, they were accompanied by Prof. Dr. Azhar Mehmood and the Chairman Department of Botany Prof. Dr. Abbas Hussain Shah to the various sites at the college campus. The faculty of Botany; Prof. Muhammad Aamir, Prof. Naeemullah Khan, Dr. Jawad Ahmed, Mr. Syed Khuram Shazad, and Mr. Afrasiyab Ahmed briefed Herbarium, Mushroom and tissue culture, Research Field, Botanical Garden and aquaponics.
Principal Govt. Girls Degree College Sara E Sala also thanked the Principal Prof. Dr. Azhar Mehmood, Chairman Prof. Dr. Abbas Hussain Shah, and the faculty of Botany for facilitating the visit. She also appreciated the research productivity at the college campus and also gestures to collaborate in research.

Some glimpses of first semester orientation and celebration of Ist position in cleanliness and second position in gardening. High tea party was given to students by faculty of Botany department. We are highly grateful to worthy principal for gracing the event.

Classes of BS Botany 1st Semester will commence on Monday, 30th October, 2023. Students are directed to follow the dress code.

During the Prize distribution ceremony of Social Work Week 2023, Worthy Regional Director HED Hazara Prof. Irshad Ahmad visited the allocated site for the Department of Botany.
The visit was accompanied by principal Prof. Dr. Azhar Mehmood and Chairman Prof. Dr. Abbas Hussain Shah the classrooms, office, Labs, Research Field and Botanical Garden were visited.
In the Botanical Garden, he was traditionally presented with special Herbal Tea; made up of herbs. Some Medicinal plants such as Stevia, Rosemary and Tulsi were also demonstrated to him.

One-day Botanical Research and Study Trip was arranged on Saturday, 26/08/2023. The trip aimed to investigate the floral diversity of Galiyat. Foothill vegetation was explored at Harnoi and adjacent areas whereas the floral composition of higher altitudes was analyzed at Bara Gali, Nathia Gali and Mera Jani. The salient feature of this trip was the company of legendary botanists worthy Principal Prof. Dr. Azhar Mehmood and Chairman Botany Department Prof. Dr. Abbas Hussain Shah. Students learned a lot in the field regarding Gymnosperms, medicinal plants and critically endangered flora. Students collected and preserved plants for research. Dr. Azhar Mehmood and Dr. Abbas Hussain Shah shared their vast experience with students in field study. The faculty of Botany Prof. Muhammad Aamir, Prof. Naeem Khan, Mr. Jawad Ahmed, Mr. Syed Khuram Shahh, and Mr. Afrasiyab Ahmed also accompanied the trip and displayed remarkable supervision of the students in their respective field subjects like Ecology, Biodiversity and conservation.
The Faculty of Botany and Students also visited Government Degree College Nathiagali where Prof. of Botany principal Ishtiaq Sarwar sb and faculty whole-heartedly welcomed the students.
We are highly thankful to Principal Prof. Dr. Azhar Mehmood for his valuable time, special permission and facilitation to conduct the study and research trip.
