Research had always seemed boring to me. During MBBS which i completed in 2007 there was no discussion on the subject, later during MCPS i was asked to do things for a Paediatrics Professor's paper without any guidance and so despised research. I attempted studying basics at IoBM but even the senior most teachers couldn't get me interested since they always skipped the basics.

My career in Public Health Sector requires that i read and make sense of relevant research work and the program i implement generates valuable data that needs to be turned into evidence.

So i attempted again to develop interest and registered for Pakistan Research Initiative's event in Manuscript Writing.

I must say i am hugely impressed by the attention to basics and the way Dr Nauman Hashmani conducted the session. I was interested throughout. The session was interactive, had activities to compliment what Dr Nauman was trying to explain, and he actually was teaching basics of the basics - things that i learnt quite late in my career. I must emphasize that a research manuscript writing class is also helpful for Public Health professionals like me in writing simple program reports, making them interesting, crisp, professional and backed with relevant data.

I would suggest young professionals and experienced professionals like myself to not take this initiative for granted. Its rare to get such detailed lessons in Pakistan, preparing you to do your best instead of wasting time on trial and error and then loosing interest.

Finally i have a few suggestions:

1) To have paid courses available
2) To have smaller groups with round table arrangements
3) To include practise scenarios from various fields
4) To engage those attending in research opportunities

Pakistan Research Initiative
Hope to see more sessions coming in future.
