🧠Let's raise awareness during Mental Health Awareness Week that child marriage isn't just a social issue; it's a mental health crisis too!
Existing evidence shows a range of poor mental health outcomes for girls and women who experience child marriage – including low self-esteem, anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation – but few programmes focus specifically on the mental health needs of girls and women who marry before age 18.

Here are 5 ways we need to support ever-married girls' and their mental health:
1️⃣ Research: We need more studies to understand and address the impacts of child marriage.
2️⃣ Contextual Solutions: Tailor interventions to each community's unique needs.
3️⃣ Responsive Support: Use trauma-informed approaches to provide mental health care.
4️⃣ Community Engagement: Involve families and communities to create supportive alternatives and environments.
5️⃣ Integrated Services: Connect mental health interventions with existing networks for lasting support.
Let's advocate for more research, funding, and collaborative efforts to address child marriage as a mental health issue. Together, we can make a difference.
