A water seminar was held at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad today for insight into the overall drinking water situation in the Province. Special participation from notable personalities from different backgrounds.
The seminar was organized with the support of the Punjab Aab e Pak Authority, Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company, Rotaract Club and Pakistan Water Operators Network. Overwhelming participation from students in the seminar witnessed.
Chairman of Pakistan Water Operators Network Syed Zahid Aziz participated as the Guest Speaker. Syed Zahid Aziz emphasized on the planning and design of potential water projects through which economic benefits can be achieved. Cultivation of less water consuming crops should be promoted in Punjab, Choosing the right crops to save underground water is very important, Syed Zahid Aziz expressed in his presentation. A large amount of underground drinkable water is used on rice and sugarcane crops, he highlighted.
Moreover, the participants were given a comprehensive presentation on water availability and the overall water situation in Punjab, especially Lahore, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad.
At the end of the seminar, an awareness walk and question and answer session were also organized as well as exchange of souvenir took place.
On this occasion, JICA Japan Mission, MD WASA Faisalabad Aamir Aziz, Convenor Pakistan Engineering Council Syed Nafast Raza, Sabahat Umbreen from UNICEF, Director Projects Punjab Aab e Pak Authority Sharjeel Hussain, officers of the Irrigation Department and Chief Engineer of Public Health Engineering Rafiq Soroya and National Coordinator PWON were present.

On December 8th, With the support of UNICEF, PWON hosted its 22nd steering committee meeting at Pak China Friendship Centre, Islamabad, led by Chairman Syed Zahid Aziz. Member utilities from all across Pakistan joined the event, expressing their admiration for PWON's achievements. The meeting involved leaders in water sharing experiences and insights on water and sanitation (W&S), discussing ways to enhance the W&S sector and improve water supply quality.
Notably, members also presented the challenges they are dealing with, initiating discussions where participants shared opinions and experiences, collaboratively exploring solutions to address and overcome these issues.

Pakistan Water Operators Network arranges successive meetings with New IBNet a subsidiary of the World Bank for water and sanitation utilities. Chairman PWON Syed Zahid Aziz presided over the session joined by all the country's water utilities including the water and sanitation agencies of Punjab province. Organizations related to water supply and drainage were brought together on the international platform of New IBNet the Chairman added.
New IBNet is providing its services to 93 water utilities around the world and helping water bodies to improve their services through workshops and webinar sessions. New IBNet will also compare all water utilities in Pakistan, and suggest customized solutions to adopt better managerial practices. The data of each water utility will be transferred into knowledge in order to achieve the best performance Chairman PWON Syed Zahid Aziz further explained in his press release.
New IBNET team will provide step by step guide for new members and ease the registration process for all the member utilities of PWON. Discover how this platform facilitates data exchange among PWON members for better collaboration and informed decision-making. Mr. Marco Antonio Aguero from IBNET explained in the meeting.
Chairman Pakistan Water Operators Network (PWON) Syed Zahid Aziz had an online meeting with New IBNET, which is linked to the World Bank. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between PWON and NEW IBNET. From PWON Chairman Syed Zahid Aziz and Marco Aguero from New IBNET signed this agreement.
Chairman Zahid Aziz said that according to this MOU, PWON will give New IBNET access to services for all member water utilities. This includes membership and dashboard where all water utilities can share their data and compare how well different institutions perform.
New IBNET will also help organize educational events, like workshops and training sessions. They will provide high-quality training for water-related issues in Pakistan, learning from the best institutions worldwide. All water utilities in Pakistan will join this platform and get trainings.
New IBNET plans to hold a webinar in next week and all member utilities in Pakistan are invited.
The Global Water Operators Alliance (GWOPA) had an online meeting on the topic of water management yesterday. GWOPA’s steering committee members joined this meeting from various countries.
From South Asian countries, Chairman Pakistan Water Operators Network (PWON) Syed Zahid Aziz took part. During this meeting, Chairman Syed Zahid Aziz said it's a great honor to represent Pakistan in this international forum. This forum helps developing countries with water supply and drainage. He also mentioned plans to introduce training programs for water engineers through this network and focused the importance of creating a complete plan for drinking water and drainage solutions in Pakistan.
With GWOPA's support, WASA Lahore and Budapest Water started a collaboration program. During the meeting, members discussed easy and smart ideas to solve challenges in the water sector.
Chairman Pakistan Water Operators Network Syed Zahid Aziz held an online meeting with the delegation of International Benchmarking Networking (IBNET). In the meeting, the performance of Pakistan's water and drainage institutions were discussed. New IBNET offers unique consultancy to solve the problems faced by water and drainage institutions. Data sharing processes support key performance indicators for better customer experience. All members of Pakistan Water Operators Network will be given free membership of NewIBNET. Through membership, institutions will be able to get free advice for solving water problems. It will support members in using data for decision making, investment, and peer learning. MoU will also be signed soon with New IBNET.
A comparative assessment will be conducted to assess the performance of water supply and drainage agencies. On this occasion, Miss Monica Weber, Senior Advisor from IBNET and Marco, Team Leader participated from Washington Online.

Pakistan Water Operators Network organized its 21st Steering Committee under the Chairmanship of Chairman PWON Syed Zahid Aziz in Faisalabad. Among the international participants Chief Executive Officer Budapest Water Works Mr. Frank Kiesler, JICA Expert Team Faisalabad Mr. Takashi Draco along with Turkish delegation participated in the event. Special participation from Deputy Commissioner Faisalabad Mr.Imran Hamid Sheikh took place.
Revolutionary measures have to be taken in the water sector to coup up water related challenges, a collective stance from all the members issued. Timely investments in the water sector could have saved flood damages in the country, Syed Zahid Aziz. Government institutions should make the investments in the water sector as first priority. The experience of international water utilities will be transferred to young Water Engineers in Pakistan Syed Zahid Aziz further described.
Further, the current situation of drinking water in the country was reviewed followed by suggestions and a discussion session. Moderation in water consumption is incumbent on all of us, participants.
