🇪🇺 This year’s IP focused on the theme: “Dissonant Heritage and European Citizenship.”

✨ In the first photo, you can see Tama, Lucie, Julien, and Mahsa touring the plenary hall of the Council of Europe and the European Parliament with Professor Bożena Gierat-Bieroń from our Institute of European Studies at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, who participated in the Intensive Programme as a tutor.

📣 Eight years after the UK voted to leave the European Union 🇪🇺, and on the eve of UK elections 🗳️, Brexit continues to impact our daily lives. The incoming government will face major questions and challenges in how it approaches relations with the EU, as well as with Dublin, Berlin, Paris, and beyond 🌍.

📊 This latest report provides a comprehensive assessment of the current state of relations between the UK and its European neighbours, addressing four critical questions:

1️⃣ How have UK relations with the EU changed since 2016?
2️⃣ How have the UK’s bilateral relations with its European neighbours evolved since the UK referendum?
3️⃣ What is the view from the EU and the UK on the current relationship?
4️⃣ What is likely to change after the UK elections?

📚 Edited by Cleo Davies, Senior Research Fellow, University of Warwick, and Hussein Kassim, Senior Fellow ‘UK in a Changing Europe’ and Professor, University of Warwick, the report includes analysis of UK and EU perspectives, and contributions from leading specialists from 16 European states, all members of the ‘Living with the Neighbours Observatory’.

👉 We are proud to announce that Dr. Natasza Styczyńska and Volodymyr Posviatenko from our Institute of European Studies at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow are the authors of a chapter focusing on Poland 🇵🇱.

📣 On Saturday, 8th of June, a group of international students from the Institute of European Studies at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow and the Inter-faculty Individual Studies in the Humanities programme of the Jagiellonian University took a field trip to visit the Jagiellonian University Vineyard in Łazy and the Okocim brewery. 🍇

📚 The trip was organised as part of the course ‘History and Sociology of Food and Drink in Poland’. 🍴

☀️ In spite of the weather forecast, it turned out to be a bright sunny day, perfect for strolling among the grape vines! We talked about why a French-origin hybrid like Seyval blanc is more popular with vintners in Poland than in its home country, how a brewery impacts the security and prosperity of local workers, and much, much more.

🍻 As an added bonus, our guide for the historical portion of the brewery tour was a first-year student from our Faculty of Political and International Studies, Adam Surmacz, who drew on his deep local knowledge and anecdotes passed down through his family.

🎉 We recently celebrated our 30th anniversary, Poland's 20 years in the European Union, and Europe Day! Check out this short video capturing the highlights of this special day 🙂

15/05/2024

📣 On Friday, May 10th, students and employees of the Institute of European Studies at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow met with representatives of the Ministry of Finance of the Netherlands who were on a research visit to Poland. 📚

💬 During a lively, two-hour discussion of current European and political topics as seen from the perspective of Central and Eastern Europe, they talked about the situation in Ukraine and European support for Ukraine, the vision of the Polish presidency of the EU, and rebuilding the rule of law after a period of populism.

🇪🇺 The project "What is Europe for you?" is a photographic narrative created by Italian artist Lisa Borgiani, who is visiting European cities from 2019, asking the people she photographs the question: "What is Europe to you?"

🗣️ "What is Europe to you?" is a story in images that takes Lisa Borgiani to different European cities: in 2019 to Athens and Berlin, in 2020 to Milan and Rome, in 2021 to Paris and the island of Ventotene, in 2022 to Budapest, the Baltics, Guben-Gubin, Malta, in 2023 to Strasbourg, Bonn and Dresden, in 2024 to Madrid and Lisbon. This year, four Ukrainian photographers from the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers collected portraits and voices of people living in Kiev, Odessa, Lviv and Kharkov.

🌍 It's an introspective journey transcending borders, inviting dialogue on identity and democracy.

✨ On Thursday 16 May at 5 pm, together with the Italian Institute in Krakow and the City of Krakow, we would like to invite you to the opening of an exhibition of photographs by Lisa Borgiani, which will take place in Jordan Park in Krakow (facing 3 May Street) with the artist in attendance. The exhibition will be on display until 25 August 2024.

📷 On Friday, 17 May, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., we invite you to Stowarzyszenie Willa Decjusza, where you will be able to meet Lisa Borghiani and take part in her photographic project in the artist's atelier.
The photographs and statements collected at Friday's event will be published by the artist and presented in upcoming exhibitions.

🇪🇺 🇵🇱 The exhibition is organised as part of the 20th anniversary of Poland's accession to the European Union.
