It’s quenepa season in Puerto Rico! If you are in town, keep an eye out on the street for vendors and try some.

Quenepas taste like a cross between a lime and a lychee, with both sweet and sour notes. These are best eaten fresh but can be used to make beverages, desserts, and jellies. You can pop the entire fruit in your mouth and suck the fruit from the seed.

“Born and raised in Puerto Rico! Been in the kitchen since the young age of 5 years old in my aunts catering service while my grandmother made the most amazing wedding cakes and decors. Always was by her side looking at her drawings of the cakes and desserts, which inspired my love for gastronomy, visual and plastic arts. My aunt went on to become a big celebrity Chef in Puerto Rico and is one of my biggest influences into the Culinary Arts.

With over 20 years in the hospitality industry, developed and opened several of the hippest restaurants and bars in Puerto Rico. Worked with LDV Group and Iron Chef Mike Forgione. Designed food programs in California for breweries like Del Cielo Brewery. Opened LA Coctelera 2016 restaurant in Puerto Rico Calle Loiza which won BEST Bar Restaurant of the United States in 2017 and got Mentions in Vouge Magazine. Also raising the status of Culinary in Puerto Rico, raising the status of Calle Loiza to the new hip place to be and elevating and changing the Local Gastronomy in Puerto Rico.”
