In Lisbon, we don’t rush to close the door on summer. September comes and goes, but here, the sun stays longer, the air remains warm. Time moves slower, unbothered by calendars. Autumn, as always, arrives a few months late, and we don’t mind. No one’s counting. There’s no urgency to reflect or wrap things up—not yet. We’ll save the rest for later, when the rains traditionally begin after St. Martin’s Day. In the meantime, let’s head to the beach and grab a couple of bottles of Clos Lentiscus at Locals and Nomads. Admire the ocean, the sunset, the surfers. The wind curls hair, leaving salt and sparkling wine on lips. Summer holds on here, and for a while, so do you.

We are open on Saturdays and Sundays from 14:00💙

🇫🇷 La Micro Winerie sources its grapes from selected organic and biodynamic vineyards primarily in the Entre-Deux-Mers region of Bordeaux, as well as from other neighboring terroirs like the Loire Valley and Jurançon. This thoughtful selection allows the winery to create distinctive wines that showcase the unique characteristics of different grape varieties and regions.

With a commitment to minimal intervention winemaking, each bottle is a true reflection of its terroir, offering a fresh and modern expression of the traditional Bordeaux wine heritage.

🐚Granite (2023) is a pure expression of Chenin, offering delicate floral and mineral notes with a subtle saline finish. This wine is both refined and refreshing, leaving a lasting impression of its elegant minerality.

🍓Euphoria (2023) is a sparkling rosé made from 95% Malbec and 5% Sauvignon Blanc. This super berry-forward pétillant naturel (Pet-Nat) bursts with vibrant wild strawberry flavors and a hint of grapefruit. The fine, delicate bubbles make it a joyful and uplifting experience, perfect for any celebration.

🍄‍🟫Murmure (2023) surprises with its smooth texture and enveloping mouthfeel. This Blanc de Noirs, crafted from a blend of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, reveals soft red fruit aromas and a gentle, satisfying finish. The process of making a white wine from red grape varieties results in a uniquely interesting and surprising flavor profile that never fails to intrigue.

🥭Zéphyr (2023) is a lively and crisp white wine, blending Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. It dances on the palate with fresh citrus notes, making it an ideal choice for those who enjoy bright, zesty wines.

You can find these wines at Locals and Nomads wine bar and bottle shops. Don’t miss the chance to experience these unique expressions of modern Bordeaux winemaking! Sante! Cheers!

Gastronomic wines highlight the flavor of a dish without overpowering it, helping to show the chef’s idea and underline the terroir of the ingredients. They should have bright natural acidity, minerality, and well-integrated alcohol and tannins.

🍷Here are a few tips 🍽️

High acidity reduces the intensity of fatty foods and balances quite salty and umami dishes. The saltier and fattier the dish, the higher the acidity of the wine should be. Pay attention to how often restaurants and wine bars serve something extra salty as a starter with crunchy wine - together this works as a double aperitif and stimulates you to drink and eat more.

Umami: Foods like mushrooms, oysters, tomatoes, aged cheeses, soy-based dishes pair great with wines that have soft tannins, savory minerality and mouthwatering juiciness. Umami taste can intensify bitterness in wine, so avoid very dry and tannic wines.

Wine body (alcohol and tannin levels) should match the weight of the dish. Alcohol and powerful tannins dry out food and pairing well with fatty meats and rich sauces, but making lean meats like turkey too dry.

Wines with neutral aromas, high minerality and crunchy acidity often have ocean saltiness, as result fit perfectly with seafood and herby citrus dishes like ceviche.

How a dish is cooked, what sauce and garnish has all of this effect on the wine pairing. Grilled dishes pair with smoky wines. Root vegetables with vegetal flavors and geosmin notes. Game with mushrooms and berries pairs with animalistic, earthy wines.

Raw dishes like meat or fish tartar don’t pair well with high tannins, which can create a metallic aluminum flavor. Here look for red wines in glou glou style with light body and minimal tannins.

Sweet wines are incredible when paired with spicy flavoured foods. The balanced sweetness (with the right level of acidity) of natural dessert wines calms the heat of spicy dishes, and plays beautifully in contrast with, for example, Indian or Pan-Asian cuisine.

Grab some cool wines from our diverse selection and experiment with pairings.

Wine lovers, share your fav wine pairings in the comments please, we are very curious! your turn!

Hot Days - Cool Wines! Vinho Verde: It’s not the name of a wine and it’s not a style of wine, it’s a large and beautiful region in the north of Portugal, on the border with Galicia, Spain.

The region is known for its lush landscapes and constant green, perpetual spring, hence the name. The cool Atlantic climate, granite soils, and rivers with their microclimates are ideal for growing grapes for high-acid, vibrant, juicy and mineral wines. Interesting fact that until the 1970ish, iVinho Verde was dominated by red wines made from the local Vinhão variety perfect with the region’s main gastronomic specialty, pork.

Then, the international demand, especially from the US market, shifted the focus to mass production of light, simple, fruity white wines with residual gas and sugar. These wines often sacrificed originality, organic practices and naturalness in favour of profitability and quick production from ‘ready-made recipes’

For a while, the world, and even Portugal, overlooked Vinho Verde’s potential for diverse, terroir wines. Thanks to a movement of winemakers focusing on natural and low-intervention methods, the region is enjoying a renaissance with a focus on sustainability and showcasing unique terroirs. These include well-known names such as Aphros Wine, Quinta de Covela, Brisa Suave, Quinta de Santa Teresa, Pequenos Rebentos (Márcio Lopes), Cortinha Velha, Paraiso and many new others. These producers emphasize the true potential of Vinho Verde wines, going beyond commercial offerings for the mass market.

Inspired by the new generation of winemakers, we believe strongly in the future of Vinho Verde. We stand ready to combat clichés and stereotypes alongside them, showcasing and celebrating the evergreen beauty of this region, with its Atlantic shores and majestic rivers of beloved Portugal, through our carefully curated selection.

Join us try a refreshing glass of Mur Wine from Sara Corvos Cortinha Velha from Vinho Verde! Discover the true variety and quality of this region, far beyond supermarket stereotypes. Drink less - Drink the best!

Discover the Elegance of Costador Terroirs Mediterranis, one of the most interesting Catalan winery. Nestled in the picturesque region of DO Conca de Barberà, Costador Terroirs Mediterranis exemplifies natural winemaking excellence. Managed by Joan Franquet, this vineyard is famed for its beautiful, precise, and elegant natural wines.

A Unique Terroir
Situated in a stunning mountain landscape at altitudes of 600 to 800 meters, the vineyard’s diverse soil composition—clay, calcareous, granitic, and stony—contributes to the wines’ distinctive character. The temperature contrasts allow the grapes to mature slowly, preserving their freshness and acidity.

Commitment to Biodiversity and Organic Practices
Costador is a sanctuary of organic biodiversity, surrounded by pine trees and inhabited by wild animals like boar and deer. Certified organic, Joan Franquet uses biodynamic practices to enhance the grapes’ natural vitality.

Traditional Harvesting and Winemaking Techniques
Harvesting at Costador is entirely by hand, ensuring only the best grapes are selected. Franquet uses wild and indigenous yeasts for fermentation, primarily in amphorae or stainless steel tanks, and sometimes in used French and acacia oak barrels, reflecting the unique terroir.

A Diverse Selection of Indigenous Varieties
Costador cultivates a remarkable array of Catalan grape varieties. Red wines include Grenache, Carignan, Sumoll Negre, and Trepat. White varieties include Macabeu, Xarel-lo, Sumoll Blanc, Parellada, and Grenache Blanc. These grapes are the heart of Costador’s wines.

The Art of Aging
Aging at Costador is an art. Wines are aged in amphorae and used oak barrels, ensuring they are balanced and not overpowered by oak.

Experience the Excellence
Tasting Costador wines is to experience Joan Franquet’s passion and precision. Each bottle celebrates nature, tradition, and meticulous craftsmanship. The elegance and authenticity of these wines leave a lasting impression.

Explore Costador Terroirs Mediterranis, where every sip tells a story of dedication, beauty, and the timeless art of natural winemaking.

🍷 Locals and Nomads is a wine bar in the heart of Lisbon, in the lovely historical neighbourhood of Graça, on a cosy pedestrian street that we think is one of the main places of attraction for foodies and wine lovers.
🍷 Locals and Nomads is a point of attraction for all wine lovers who appreciate the quality and variety of natural wines.
🍷Our mission is to introduce you to the diverse world of natural wine by offering an exceptional selection, including a wide variety of wines by the glass.

We are open every day from 16:00 and offer:

✨ Over 20 wines by the glass, which we update weekly.
🍇 Free mini tastings of 3-4 wines before ordering.
🍴 Delicious tapas from €5.
🍷 Honest prices - listed directly on the bottles.

Our selection includes wines from all over the world, with a special focus on the new generation of Portuguese and Spanish winemakers. We update our range weekly, adding new and exciting bottles. We also offer a wide range of non-alcoholic drinks, from alcohol-free wines to natural lemonades and craft beer.

🫶🏻Our benefits:
• We operate as a wine bar and as a shop.
• We provide home delivery of wine.
• We have bonus cards with cashback.
• We organise wine school for wine lovers.

We’re trying to create an atmosphere where everyone can discover a new wine, learn about its history, find out what natural wine is and why there are so many clichés around it.

It is important for us to show by the example of our selection that natural wines are not one particular style, in which often flaws are passed off as effects and winemakers’ mistakes as a signature style. Natural wine from talented winemakers demonstrates the diversity of terroirs and, as a result, the diversity of flavours and styles of wine. Natural wine can be bold, wacky, surprisingly evocative, also it can be elegant, delicate, multi-layered, whispery and very precise.

Natural wine won’t make you better or worse, but it can be a great starting point for meeting new people and learning new things. And, of course, it’s just plain fun as it’s such a delicious drink.

We are proud to introduce the new winery Barroca da Malhada whose wines you can find both in our bars and in our distribution portfolio. Located in the mountainous Beira Interior region of Portugal, this historic estate covers 17.5 hectares, 5 of which are dedicated to biodynamic vineyards. Brazilian siblings Fernando and Luciana Teixeira de Camargo, along with their partner Valdir Zanirato, rely on artisanal production and minimal intervention, growing nine grape varieties including Arinta, Fernão Pires, Bical, Turiga Nacional and others.

🏺Arinto na Ânfora is a unique white wine from the 2021 vintage of DOC Beira Interior. Made exclusively from Arinto grapes, it is aged in amphora and new Portuguese chestnut barrels, resulting in a golden yellow wine with strong mineral and citrus flavours, as well as notes of fruit, salted caramel and white flowers. It pairs well with a variety of cheeses, white meats and seafood pasta.

🍑The white wine from Barroca da Malhada combines Arinto, Fernão Pires and Bical varieties aged in stainless steel and chestnut barrels of second use. The wine has a bright lemon yellow colour, aromas of ripe peach, pineapple and rosemary and a mineral, fresh, dry taste. This wine pairs perfectly with fish, shellfish, baked poultry and Mexican dishes.

🫐The red wine is 60% from Trincadeira and 40% Turiga Nacional and has an intense ruby-purple colour with aromas of violets, black cherries and spices. Full-bodied, with spicy flavours and well-integrated tannins, it is perfect with lamb, slow-cooked meats or mushroom risotto.

🍒Finally, our favourite, a Baga rosé made from 100% Baga grapes. This wine is crafted using an artisanal approach, with hand-harvested grapes and spontaneous fermentation, ensuring minimal intervention in the cellar. It is aged in both stainless steel vats and Portuguese chestnut barrels. The wine presents a clear, intense pink colour, embodying an intense, fresh, and balanced profile. Its aroma is a captivating mix of strawberry jam, mint, and clay. On the palate, it offers fresh red fruit flavours combined with earthy and juicy notes.

Aligote, often seen as a poor relative of Chardonnay, but for us, Aligote is more of a dark horse that is rarely looked at, but we recommend placing a bet. This grape variety is renowned for its crisp acidity and ability to produce a wide range of wines, from simple, refreshing whites to more complex aged wines. It grows particularly well in the limestone-rich soils of Burgundy, enhancing its characteristic minerality and sharpness.

The aromatic profile of Aligoté is characterised by lively notes of lemon, green apple and flint, and depending on the winemaking approach, it can also show hints of white flowers and spices. These wines are particularly appreciated for their bright acidity and freshness, making them excellent starters to dishes or pairing with light snacks.

A prime example of Aligoté’s potential is the wine Le Clou 34, created by Claire Naudin (Domaine Naudin-Ferrand). Le Clou 34, is made from grapes harvested from vines planted as far back as 1934 and demonstrates not only the historical depth of the vineyard, but also the complexity and ageing potential of Aligoté. Claire Nodin’s desire to emphasise the importance of Aligoté through wines such as ‘Le Clou 34’ plays an important role in defining its place within the wider context of perfect natural wine examples.

Have you ever tried Burgundy Aligoté?

Ola, Locals and Nomads! Breaking News for All Wine Lovers and Wine Enthusiasts! We’re launching a Bottle Sharing Club at Locals and Nomads. The idea is simple: every week we get 10-12 people together and share a wine, splitting the costs for all participants. We taste exclusive wines, quite expensive and rare that are usually hard to find, buy alone and definitely can’t be met by the glass. We socialise, taste, discuss wine, life, Lisbon, etc.

Our sommeliers will answer all your wine questions if you have them, if not, you just enjoy the pure terroir wines and have fun in a circle of wine lovers. It’s not a lecture format, it’s a format to chill out and broaden the tasting experience.

We have chosen Sunday as the perfect day in our opinion for such a wine hangout in a brunch format. We’ll start at 13:00, until about 15ish. We are starting already this Sunday. Special ‘guest’ this Sunday is a wine from Nicolas Joly and another surprise.

🎟️On this Sunday April 28. Time 13:00.

The cost depends on the number of participants and wines, but it is likely to be a maximum of 20 euros per person. If you’re up for it, text DM!

El3mento Unique Story by Quinta da Carolina: A Testament to Limited Production and Uncompromising Quality

El3mento, initiated in 2017, exemplifies the unique winemaking philosophy of Quinta da Carolina, which is focused on crafting sincere, high-quality wines in limited quantities. Developed through the collaboration of Luís Pedro Cândido da Silva and Carmelo Peña Santana, this wine reflects their shared vision and dedication since their university days.

Their approach to winemaking is both traditional and bold, involving spontaneous fermentation in a clay Talha with whole bunches, without temperature control, and allowing for an extended maceration period. This method is risky due to the minimal use of sulfur dioxide, emphasizing the commitment to natural processes and contributing to its rarity and unique yearly variations.

This wine is pure and delicious, light in color and alcohol. It stands out with an aromatic profile of cherry, red berries, cassis, and redcurrant. On the palate, its purity shines again, featuring a cranberry grip of acidity and a hint of tannin. It’s saline and long-lasting, making it a wine to be savored for its refined simplicity and elegance.

El3mento by Quinta da Carolina is not merely a wine but a narrative of passion, innovation, and the relentless pursuit of quality. Its production may be limited, but its character and appeal are boundless.

Thanks and
