On the day we celebrated our 7th anniversary, we had the privilege of baptizing five people that decided to follow Jesus, and never turn back! There is so much joy in our hearts for every life that experiences the power of God's love and forgiveness. We praise God for the spiritual fruit of the past 7 years, and our prayer continues to be, "Here we are, Lord, use us!"

We arrive at 2024 overwhelmed by God's immense faithfulness towards us!

We love our church family! We love that we get to say hello to new friends every week. We love that we get to bless and impact people before sending them back to their home countries, with a renewed sense of vision and purpose. We love that we get to grow in Christ alongside people from different parts of the world. We love that every day we experience we are all strangers in this world, on our way to an eternity with Jesus.

Thank you all who have been part of this story, that is still being written by our Heavenly Father ❤️

Psalm 90:17 "Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!"

There were plenty of exciting things happening in 2023!

Pedro and Jodeé Luz were recognised and ordained as pastors, enriching not only our pastoral team, but the daily walk of our church community with Jesus.

There was so much life coming out of every service, beach baptism, women’s meeting, prayer evening, worship night, church retreat, men’s gathering… We are thankful that all these events were channels for people to start following Jesus, but also to fully commit their lives to the Kingdom of God.

Colossians 3:23-24 "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving."

In 2022 we felt God speaking Isaiah 54:1 over us:

"Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes. For you will spread out to the right and to the left; your descendants will dispossess nations and settle in their desolate cities."

That year we had our first leaders retreat, where we shared a new vision, mission and values of our church community. We empowered and trained every leader to be shepherds within the growing community. Dhina had stepped into full-time ministry at the end of 2021, responding positively to the call God had placed in his life, and in 2022 we grew as an leader in our community. Ministries like Life Groups, Children and Women started to blossom, and their fruits are still visible and blessing many even today!

2021 was a year where several ministries started, and when we ordained a new Elder to serve our growing community. We can't help but to feel nostalgic when we look at photos and see that we had to say goodbye to so many that were serving next to us. However, there is great joy to know that their lives are being used by God to establish His Kingdom around the world. The ministry of a local church has no borders! 🫶

1 Corinthians 12:27 "Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it."

Everyone remembers the lockdown right in the beginning of 2020.

That year was the living proof that the church is so much more than a building. We are the body of Christ! Even though our doors were closed, our hearts continued open. We mobilized and served more people than ever before. The church prepared "Love Hampers" to those more vulnerable in our community. Through the "Taste of Hope" Campaign, the Lisbon Project provided urgent food help to hundreds of people on a weekly basis. We remained together through these difficult times, and the church of Christ continued to grow!

📖 Isaiah 1:17 "Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow."

2019 was, so far, the most memorable year of Riverside Lisbon!

Our church family was outgrowing our facilities in the outskirts of Lisbon. And not just us, but the Lisbon Project was also bursting at the seams! But at the right time, with the right people, and the right investment, God made the impossible possible! During an already frantic real estate market, God gave us a spacious home right in the heart of Lisbon, in Arroios, the most international neighborhood in Lisbon. Sure, it needed a lot of love and care. But our church family stepped up to serve, and soon we had a home to welcome and serve more people than ever before!

📖 Matthew 25:23 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’

By 2018, our spiritual family was becoming more mature. We welcomed more people who came into Lisbon feeling led by God, ready to serve Him with their time, talents and treasure. Our mid-week Bible study was such an exciting place to explore God's Word and learn from one another. And being an international church, we started to have to say goodbye to many friends who were leaving Lisbon into the next chapter of their lives 🥲 We quickly learned that the hellos and goodbyes would be a part of our story so we blessed those leaving and released them to be fruitful in God's Kingdom, wherever He would take them!

📖 Galatians 6:9 “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

Next Sunday we will celebrate our 7th Anniversary 🎂 and this week we want to take you on a journey, praising God for all He has done!

The year was 2017. Obedient to the vision God had given them, Gaby and Ruben Faria stepped into the city of Lisbon with the purpose of impacting the lives of migrants and refugees with Jesus' love. That vision materialized into two communities, Lisbon Project and Riverside International Church - Lisbon, and a very small space in the outskirts of Lisbon. The work began slowly, but steadily. The Lisbon Project focused on adding value into every person in need of support, whether that was clothing, food, employment, health or legal. Riverside opened its doors on Sunday evenings, and started welcoming people from all over the world in search of God and community.
