We started our season with the opening of a beautiful photography exhibition "Old trees" by the artist Florin Ghenade in collaboration with .

Florin Ghenade has been photographing old trees in Romania for over six years during his travels, as symbols of memory and temporality, creating a series of photographic frames in which the aestethic and the significance of the subject are equally important.

We are grateful for everyone who joined us 🤍

Thank you .dox for capturing these moments 📷

The Anatomy of Ambiguity .gallery
Ada Muntean / Mathias Bar

The Anatomy of Ambiguity is a duo show type of exhibition that describes through its artistic approaches, a carefully constructed ambient, marked by intimacy, and following a red thread which leads to a configuration of states where ambiguity becomes an expressive instrument.
The figurative elements that appear in the art pieces: organic, vegetal, or anatomical symbolically suggest the cyclicity of life by presenting small, precious fragments of the ephemeral. The repetitive process symbolizing birth, growth, maturity, and death illustrate the natural existential circuit. The corporality of the vegetal structures or of the human body per se is explored through experimental compositions made through various techniques: oil on canvas, watercolour on wood panel, charcoal on canvas, drawing on wood panel.

"Emotional relays of different sizes" - pastel on canvas, 90x90cm, 2024

Sebastian Big is exploring in this work a profound theme about the inheritance between generations, particularly the crucial lesson of freedom that parents can bestow upon their children.

There are countless aspects of what is passed down from father to son, from mother to son. Yet, the most invaluable inheritance, the most significant lesson to be impaired at home, is the gift of freedom.

The gift, however is bittersweet. In a society that overwhelmingly demands submission, the journey to learn and embrace freedom is fraught with challenges. The family, in this context, becomes a beacon of liberty, more so than just a transmitter of conventions.

How do we navigate this tension and find the balance between societal expectations and personal freedom? How do we, as families and individuals nurture and uphold the spirit of freedom in the face of conformity?

On view .gallery until the 9th of June!

Opening: May 10th, 6PM
📍Memorandumului 17, Cluj-Napoca, Romania

"The WhatsApp group for the parents of class 3B, the Mormons, the backcountry skiers, the group of left-leaning thinkers who used to be monarchist-relativists, the camping buddies, the Slack channel for people_who_get_along, the painters from the Cluj school, the cultural management of Cluj, we are surrounded on all sides by groups and factions where hierarchies are distilled, elders emerge, ways of working are formed, processes, cultures are born. In all this movement, conformity with financial finality gradually eliminates precisely what is most specific to humans, namely humanity, the random nature of existence, and thereby freedom.

Fortunately, there is something stronger in humans than this kind of maneuvering, namely the instinct of adaptation. Everything that is thrown at them, humans grind, process, appropriate, acculturate, subvert, somehow make use of the enemy's weapons for their own survival.

Thus, we end up using precisely this dis-figurement, forced depersonalization, with origins clearly found in slave management (see Caitlin Rosenthal - Accounting for Slavery: Masters and Management). They want us to be no face no name just a number, but it's hard, because when there is no face and there is no name, the number dissolves too, the position in the queue is lost, we become harder to track, harder to be put to/in order, the electric brain sweats hard to hunt quiet quitters; the workforce, the primary resource, the essence of capital gradually dissolves into an original magma, without fixed forms, from which what is to come will be born. What is alive will never be content with its own state. Life will always create new worlds." (Sebastian Big)
