Galleri Thomassen
Sommarstängt, enbart öppet via överenskommelse.
Thank you everyone who joined us this Saturday for the opening of Patrik Bengtsson exhibition!
Verdurafältet (Episod 2 – Rise of The Bacchus Riders), is on view until September 8th
—
Verdurafältet is a fictional world created by the artist Patrik Bengtsson, together with his friends and family who surround him.
In each episode, the viewer is invited to an exhibition where the three practices of sculpture, music, and storytelling merge into a holistic creation. An entryway into a world that vibrates between the poles of darkness and light, resistance and decadence.
Central to this story is the misanthrope Verdura, a female figure who wishes to leave humanity behind and become part of the vegetation.
That's a wrap! Our exhibition program is now closed for summer. A huge thank you to everyone who attended and to all the fantastic artists this season, and to HDK-Valand for a successful and fun collaboration. It's been a pleasure!
The gallery is now open by appointment only, but don’t miss out on one last hurrah - Emma Amal Khanafer and Jenny Palén have put together a 24-hour group show/party this weekend!
We’re excited to welcome you to our new space at Sockerbruket 33 this fall, starting off with Patrik Bengtsson on August 17th.

Hank Grüner - ”Tolima”
Hank Fernando Grüner (b.1991 Bogota, Colombia) currently lives and works in Stockholm, Sweden. While Hanks’ visual references at first glance feel distinctly contemporary, with a Pop-Punk aesthetic and a raw, honest approach to materials, they are also rooted in an exploration of shamanism and ancient South American artifacts. Hank approaches his artistic practice from a place of personal history and deeply personal experiences, paired with exploring cultural heritage, belonging, and transformative mythology. Grüner creates a visual meeting place between expressionism, still life, and his distinctive contemporary graphic style. Through his work he taps into many simultaneous realities, often bringing subconscious memories of his mixed Swedish and Columbian heritage and identity to life.
This the last week to visit the ongoing exhibitions, our opening hours are:
Tue-Thu: 12 - 18 pm

Martin Solymar – Ghosts From the Manzanilla Road
09.03- 24.03 2024
In “Ghost From The Manzanilla Road” we are presented with the portrait Young Eric Blackman. He is depicted with a cane, ready to lead us into a world of heightened presence and sublime elements, of palm trees, wetlands, stormy weather, starry nights, and a luminous dolphin. The environment created by Solymar is an enchanting fusion of influences from the Caribbean, music, and Norse mythology where the imagery claims the inward perception. The exhibition features oil paintings, wet-on-wet acrylic paint on jute canvas, reliefs in Brazilian marble, and limestone.
Martin Solymar (b.1981) lives and works in Gothenburg, Sweden. Education (MFA) at Valand Academy, University of Gothenburg, Sweden (2012). Solymar has exhibited in galleries and museums in both Sweden as well as internationally, latest exhibitions include Gothenburg Art Museum, The Frame Shop, Trinidad & Tobago, Galleri Flach, Stockholm, and SKF Konstnärshuset, Stockholm.

”In my exhibition Tolima at Galleri Thomassen, I explore the notion of a reunion with my biological family in Tolima, Colombia, dreams, and fantasies about how it would be to experience. The exhibition consists of both large and small paintings, painted in oil pastel and oil paint. There are also sculptures in ceramics, wood, wax and stone where characters remind me of my roots.”

We are happy to return to the Paper Positions Art Fair in Berlin - this year with Erik Berglin!
25 – 28 April
Erik Berglin - ”The Bird Projects”
Over a period of twelve years, Stockholm based artist Erik Berglin wheat-pasted 4982 hand cut images of birds in natural scale, in twelve cities around the world. Each bird was placed in a carefully selected location, and subsequently documented by the artist, who works with photography as his primary medium.
The project was inspired by the famous ornithologist John James Audubon’s (1785-1851) mag-
num opus; the monumental ‘Birds of America’, originally printed and published between 1827-1838. Birds of America contains 435 life-size watercolours of North American birds, all reproduced from hand-engraved plates. In homage to Audubon, Berglin also made a giant sized version of his book in an edition of 5+AP.
