So Hot (It’s) Hurting My Feelings
-
On the wall: A play of light over a wind chime with little translucent hearts attached to it, being played with by the wind, by the window. This moving image is vesseled by a screen located to your left, like a window. Katarina’s camera has captured a supernaturally-feeling natural gleam not directly visible to the human eye, turning the process of filming into a sort of dead-pan physics experiment in optics that simultaneously exercises its glamour—in the phantastical phantasy faery sense—upon the viewer. It’s Pretty Wise. The best thing about it is that you can watch it as many
times as you like as it is stuck in a loop. The worst thing about it is that staring too deeply into absolute, unquestionable beauty can be addictive and painful on the eye, So Hot (It’s) Hurting My Feelings.

Kaare Ruud’s solo exhibition '{@}' displays several small-scale sculptures created from dried roses and accompanied by the artist’s texts. The small withered flower-figures resemble human forms. The primary function of the roses has been removed as the sculptures’ physical appearance and their different postures transform them into another form of existence.
The works create imprints of easily evaporating feelings and emotions, a sort of momentary expressions brought to life by personal and autobiographical motivation. Being so, they are not only poetic manifestations of the artist’s state of mind, but also anchors of the moments in which they were created – relics of ‘remembering’, in possession of all the essential features of the memory.

(b. 1993, Gausdal) is an artist based in Oslo. He holds a BA from the Art Academy in Bergen and an MFA from Oslo National Academy of the Arts in 2020. He works in various mediums, such as sculpture, installation and text. Thematically, he is interested in concepts such as time, memory, nostalgia, durability and language. In addition to other methods, he works mainly with these notions and concepts by recontextualising utility objects that have an attraction to the past that is constantly returning to the limelight as ‘trendy’. Or to use everyday objects or elements from our immediate surroundings, field with meanings.

👁 Tu çavê min î 👁
One week to go until the opening of the exhibition!
Tu çavê min î (you are my eyes) takes its title from a Kurdish saying used to express empathy, and commonly employed at funerals to show sympathy to the grieving family. Diving into domestic and cultural symbols and rituals, the exhibition examines Pelerin Brodrej and Nikki Fager Myrholm’s respective quest for alternative ways to communicate and to bring about healing.
In this exhibition, language is gentle as a bird but witty as a snake. Language is a pair of eyes offered on a golden plate to sooth a sad friend. It is staring out someone’s eyepits and seeing nothing but mist. Language is a flame: if on a parent’s birthday you light a candle, when remembering them you might want to burn a few more. It is also a language that isn’t seen or heard anymore. A language so quiet, that it folds and fades into the dinner table.
Pelerin Brodrej and Nikki Fager Myrholm create candidly. They copy fading memories from photo albums or words from children's alphabet books, and let them shape and tell new stories. Attentive to their yearnings, they both seek for a language carrying shared memories, a language that is more alchemical: if there is a spirit to all things, it shall fall down into new alphabets and new words that can be read and used to conjure friendly ghosts, and create fertile land on the earth ground - among ruins.

A few pictures from last month in our booth at Supermarket 2021, where we presented three new works by Tomas Sjögren 🔮
꧁Nef at SUPERMARKET 2021꧂
At Supermarket 2021 Nef presents three new artworks by Tomas Sjögren: An interactive wood-, video- and sound installation titled 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘖𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘭𝘦 (2021), together with two weaves titled 𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘷𝘰𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘒𝘶𝘳𝘣𝘪𝘵𝘴 (2021) and 𝘏𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘣𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘳 (2021). Bear in mind though, that the borders between the works are not that thick, and if observed closely enough the viewer may find links that glues all of the pieces together into a whole.

Morte liiiiiiiffeeeeeee, still naaaaaattuuuuree pulls us in a myriad of directions as we wade through the messiness of accepting extinction—and all that might come after. Both alarming and hopeful, it reminds us that once life is dead it is still nature; in the same way that a tree that falls becomes a life-giving feast for many others.
