Qbtech
Qbtech is the global market leader in ADHD tests. The first ADHD tests to be CE marked and FDA clear
The story of Qbtech (Quantitative behaviour technology) began in Gothenburg, Sweden in 2002. By developing proprietary algorithms, a unique Continuous Performance Task (CPT) and adding important activity measures, Qbtech created an objective test, QbTest, with the ability to aid in the assessment of ADHD and treatment follow-up in both clinical and research settings. In 2005, 2012 and 2014, three

Measuring hyperactivity is a game-changer in ADHD evaluations.
Sulcata Psychiatry recently made the switch to QbTest for that reason.
“We were looking for a device that could accurately measure the core symptoms of ADHD and our old medical device was missing a hyperactivity activity tracker. After switching to QbTest my providers have greater confidence in their ADHD diagnosis,” says Stoni Johnston, its founder.

👧👦 Children with developmental concerns may find certain activities in school or at home more difficult. Identifying the cause is important and ruling ADHD in or out can help. 🔬✅
However, demand for ADHD evaluation can be high and there may be significant delays between positive screening results and receiving diagnostic services.
💻 Telehealth can help to accelerate the pathway to early diagnosis, intervention, and treatment.
A 2022 study by La Valle et al., concluded that telehealth can help families in remote locations to access “timely clinical expertise and specialty input".

Did you know that there are three subtypes of ADHD?
👉 Primarily hyperactive-impulsive ADHD presentation
👉 Primarily inattentive ADHD presentation (previously called ADD)
👉 Combined presentation
Although all three subtypes are ADHD, their symptoms can differ. Primarily hyperactive-impulsive ADHD is the type most people are more familiar with. Typical symptoms include fidgeting, interrupting, and struggling with sitting still.
Primarily inattentive ADHD is more closely related to concentration and focus. Patients may struggle with memory, losing things, and organization.
Combined presentation is a combination of the two.
During an evaluation for ADHD, clinicians will ask patients about symptoms relating to each subtype, to identify which diagnosis is most suitable. An objective test like QbTest can also help with this, as data is available on each of the core symptoms of ADHD.

ADHD is a highly treatable condition. However, for those using stimulant or non-stimulant medications, a regular supply of their medications is critical.
Sometimes a specific brand of medication may be unavailable, but a similar or non-branded alternative can be prescribed.
Whilst it is understandable to be nervous about such changes, objective testing can help.
Tests like QbTest can be used in treatment management, supporting clinicians to identify optimal doses, even when medication might need a change due to supply issues.
The London-based Achieving for Children team introduced QbTest to their ADHD care pathway in a one-year pilot.
They reported:
✅ An 82% reduction in school observations.
✅ A 34% reduction in the number of appointments needed to reach a diagnosis.
✅ Increased confidence in 88% of clinicians when giving a diagnosis.
✅ 88% of clinicians agreed that QbTest should be used routinely as part of the ADHD assessment.

You may be familiar with using objective testing to help diagnose ADHD. However, did you know that objective tests like QbTest can also be used for ADHD treatment management in children and adults?
Clinicians can compare baseline data (before treatment) with test results after treatment has started. This can help with reviewing dosages and assessing treatment effect.
Bijlenga et al. (2015) found that QbTest identified a clinical improvement in 57% of patients after treatment, compared to 40% when ADHD-RS was used (p=0.036).

It can be difficult to distinguish between developmental concerns and ADHD in younger children. 🧬🔬
Children can develop at different rates and comparisons with siblings or in the classroom can be unhelpful. This is particularly true when the age range in a classroom can vary by up to 12 months.
🖥️ Remote ADHD testing using telehealth can provide answers even when traveling to a clinic for assessment isn't possible.
Families can undertake testing via telehealth at home, with the results interpreted by a clinician. This can provide families with a diagnosis and answer the question of whether symptoms are linked to ADHD or developmental concerns. 🧠📝

Understanding how ADHD is treated in children can be complex. However, here are three key principles to remember:
👉 Objective testing can help with diagnosis by comparing the test taker's results with a normative group of the same age and s*x at birth, for accurate diagnosis.
👉Medication may need to be adjusted over time. Objective testing can be used to measure treatment response and inform dosage changes.
👉As well as the treatment plan prescribed by a healthcare professional, some families have found making changes at home can help with symptom management. This might include implementing better routines, eating more healthily, and trying to improve sleep patterns.

Subjective measures for evaluating ADHD in young people rely upon children, parents, and teachers to provide a clear assessment of symptoms. 👧👦
There can be several problems with this approach, including:
👉 Conflicting accounts of behavior and symptoms between school and home.
👉 Children, and the adults around them can find ADHD symptoms difficult to observe or describe to a clinician.
👉 Over or underreporting of symptoms and their effects.
An objective test can provide clinicians with information on symptoms that is independent of patient or family observations. This can help lead to a better informed diagnostic decision.

Objective testing can be used as an effective tool for ADHD medication management, used alongside other clinical measures. By comparing test results before and after treatment commences, clinicians can visually see the impact of medication on symptoms.
Objective testing can also help clinicians to capture symptoms or treatment effects that may not be noticeable to the patient.
This is supported by a study by Martin-Key et al., which compared QbTest with ASRS for reviewing treatment effect. They found that QbTest captured 86% of patients’ treatment effects, compared with only 37% of patients’ improvement on the ASRS rating scale.

Many people diagnosed with anxiety find that they also experience symptoms of ADHD and vice versa. Research shows that up to 80% of adults diagnosed with ADHD have at least one other mental health condition. 🧠👥
Anxiety and ADHD share many similar symptoms which can make identification of ADHD more difficult. Plus, the longer ADHD goes undiagnosed, the more problems it potentially creates. 🌩️
Without a thorough evaluation with the use of objective testing, the effects of ADHD and anxiety can lead to a missed diagnosis of one or the other condition. 🔬🧬

With today being Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day, it’s a great time to highlight the importance of ADHD testing and the difference that a clinical evaluation can make to a child’s life 👦👧
🎓 Concerns over ADHD are often first raised in school settings. In education, children are expected to concentrate, perform well, and be compared to their peers. However, children in a school year can vary in age by up to 12 months, depending on birthdate.
In this early life stage, 12 months is a big difference. Writing for our blog, Dr Simon Kitson highlights that this differential development can be mistaken for ADHD. 🧠
He explains that the youngest children in a school year are more likely to be assessed, diagnosed and treated for ADHD than those who are up to 12 months older.
Subjective tests for ADHD rely on teacher, parent and child observations of symptoms. In a school setting, this means children are compared with their entire year group. An objective test, like QbTest, benchmarks patients against same age and same s*x at birth data, reducing birthdate bias.

For people with ADHD, comorbidities with other mental health conditions are common.
Ogrodnik et al., (2023) found that 50% of people with ADHD in their study group reported severe to extremely severe symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress.
Assessment and treatment of ADHD, alongside any co-existing conditions, is critical.🎗️
