Physics Department Engagement Event on April 17 2021
Our virtual NUS Physics Engagement event for Pre-University students took place on 14-15 December 2020, online.
We would like to thank all the pre-university students that joined us for this event! We would also like to thank all the different labs, professors, and alumni that have supported us for this event!
You can find the programme booklet for this event here.
Greetings from the NUS Physics Department!
Our virtual NUS Physics Engagement event aims to make the physics you are currently learning exciting and to also demonstrate its relevance to technology and industries.
Date: 14-15 December 2020
Price: FREE for all pre-university students
The event will have:
(1) live lab tours and guided hands-on experiments with science kits
(2) panel sessions with NUS Physics professors and alumni
(3) guest lectures by world-renowned professors
(4) time for interaction with current NUS Physics undergraduates
Register at bit.ly/NUSphysics. Registration closes on 30/10/20 (extended) or when we reach 300 sign-ups, whichever is earlier.
This will benefit students interested in a career in innovation, particularly in the STEM fields. We look forward to interacting with you! Queries? Contact [email protected].

The Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) is a Research Centre of Excellence (RCE) in Singapore. It brings together physicists, computer scientists and engineers to do basic research on quantum physics and to build devices based on quantum phenomena. Experts in this new discipline of quantum technologies are applying their discoveries in computing, communications, and sensing.
The Centre was established in December 2007 with support from Singapore’s National Research Foundation and Ministry of Education.

String Theory, and its Role in Cosmology and Mathematics
https://phys.org/news/2020-05-atom-sized-machine-quantum-mechanic.html
To make an atom-sized machine, you need a quantum mechanic Here's a new chapter in the story of the miniaturisation of machines: researchers in a laboratory in Singapore have shown that a single atom can function as either an engine or a fridge. Such a device could be engineered into future computers and fuel cells to control energy flows.
