The 4 Arenas of Devotion
Speaker: Ps Dan Yan
In Acts 2:42-47, the Bible tells us the first Christians were devoted to 4 arenas of spiritual growth. Through their devotion in these arenas, God was able to use them powerfully for His Kingdom to transform the world. Our devotion matters to God and us! We will explore the same Bible passage and unpack how we too can grow in these arenas of devotion for God's glory.
Ps Dan serves as Deputy Senior Pastor and Pastor of Connect Ministries for Faith Community Church Australia. He hails from Singapore but considers himself a global sojourner. He spent several years as an investment banker in Asia before serving as a pastor in the USA, Hong Kong and now Australia.

Demanding boss? Annoying colleagues? Unreasonable deadlines and excessive workload? Check, check and check. Singaporeans are among the most stressed at work globally. Work-related stress caused by, among others, toxic work environments, time pressure and excessive workloads, can be harmful to both physical and emotional health. What, then, is a Christian worker to do? How can we find strength, keep a positive attitude, and faithfully fulfill our responsibilities when the stress seems relentless and unending?

ReFrame Episode 10: Joyful Living
(Luke 24:30-34)
A reframed understanding of the gospel gives us confidence and joy in the midst of daily life. The good news of Christ in Scripture frees us to live an abundant life of work and rest. This session helps us to see all of our lives as part of this abundant life. All are welcome!
This Sunday (10 Sep)
ReFrame Episode 9: Ambassadors
(Jeremiah 29:4-7)
We are all called to be ambassadors, but how do we actually live as ambassadors? What does this look like? In this session, through the example of Daniel, we see that doing the diplomatic work of Christ involves being formed by the local church, knowing God’s mission, learning the cultural language, and engaging in diplomacy. All are welcome!
This Sunday (3 Sep)
ReFrame Episode 8: Strangers & Exiles
(2 Corinthians 5:17-20; Luke 14:34-35)
How do we live out this story? How do we engage the world around us? In this session, we explore how God calls all Christians to live as ambassadors. Rather than simply assimilating or withdrawing from culture we participate in God’s mission to witness to and redeem culture. All are welcome!
A preview of episode 8 can be found here: https://vimeo.com/103750114
This Sunday (27 Aug)
ReFrame Episode 7: The Church & The Spirit
(Acts 2:1-4)
How do we enter into the story? In this final session about the Biblical story, we see how God gives the Holy Spirit to empower the church at Pentecost. It is not enough to simply know the story; we must also live the story. The Holy Spirit empowers us to participate in the story and God’s work of redemption in the world. All are welcome!
A preview of episode 7 can be found here: https://vimeo.com/103750115
This Sunday (20 Aug)
ReFrame Episode 6: New Heavens & New Earth
(Revelation 21:1-4)
This session looks at how God promises to transform all of creation in the new heavens and new earth through the resurrection of Christ. As citizens of this promise, Christians are called to live as a sign, a holy foretaste of this final act of redemption. All are welcome!
A preview for the episode can be found here: https://vimeo.com/102042374
This Sunday (13 Aug)
ReFrame Episode 5: Jesus the King
(John 1:1-17)
This session focuses on Jesus Christ as the climax of the story and the fulfilment of all the Old Testament scriptures. He is the true image of God, the true Israelite, who redeems humanity through his person, work, and words. Jesus is both Saviour and Lord, and his redemptive work affects everything. This gives meaning to all of life and culture, including our ordinary activities. The gospel is therefore more than personal salvation; it is the invitation to participate in a renewed life for a renewed world. All are welcome!
A preview of episode 5 can be found here: https://vimeo.com/100858144
This Sunday (30 July)
ReFrame Episode 4: Israel’s Calling
(Genesis 12:1-7)
This session focuses on God’s faithfulness to the people of Israel and how Israel’s story is part of our family history as Christians. The story of Israel helps us see how our faith makes a difference in a complex and messy world. We learn that God calls ordinary people to trust him and blesses them so they might be a blessing to others. God is with us in our failures and our faithfulness, and he continues to work through us to redeem this broken world. All are welcome!
A preview of episode 4 can be found here: https://vimeo.com/100858143
This Sunday (23 July)
ReFrame Episode 3: Creation & Fall
(Genesis 1:1-5, 1:26-31)
This session starts at the beginning with the account of the creation and fall. Genesis tells us why God created the world and humanity and his purposes for both. God’s creation was good, but this goodness was catastrophically marred through the fall. Nevertheless, as image-bearers of God, we are called to cultivate this original goodness in our relationships with God, others, and creation. All are welcome!
The episode 3 preview can be found here: https://vimeo.com/100858142
This Sunday (16 July)
ReFrame Episode 2: Cultural Stories
(Romans 12:1-2)
As Christians, the story of Scripture and the person of Jesus shape the whole of who we are. Still, we often experience tensions within our culture that provide alternate answers to this question. We are told we must choose who we want to be rather than receive our identity as a gift given by God. This session discusses some of the ways our culture shapes us and why this so often leads to a crisis of identity. All are welcome!
Starting this Sunday (9 July)
ReFrame Episode 1: The ReFraming Story
(Colossians 1:15-20; Luke 24:15)
Many people today, including Christ-followers, experience a frustrating and confusing disconnect between the story we find in Scripture and the story of our lives. Developed using the best elements of Regent College’s graduate curriculum, ReFrame is a ten-week series that explores how God’s story reframes everything. We will walk through the “big story” of Scripture, and examine how this story has shaped historical Christian communities and their cultures, and what its implications for living today. All are welcome!

Free to Worship
Text: Exodus 32:1-8, 33:7-11
Series: “Exodus” Part 6
Speaker: Rev. Tan Hock Cheng
Date: 25 Jun 2023
God’s desire is for you to be set free to worship him throughout your life. The church should, likewise, be a place of ‘celebration, exuberant and joyful’ (Acts 2:46, MSG). We should be the most positive people in the world – constantly celebrating Jesus and the victory of God. But how can we experience that freedom in worship? Join us this Sunday for the finale of our series on Exodus to find out.

Free to Obey
Text: Exodus 20:1-17
Series: “Exodus” Part 5
Speaker: Rev. Tan Hock Cheng
Date: 11 Jun 2023
Did you know that the Ten Commandments are God’s loving boundaries for life, given out of his love for you? His boundaries are not designed to restrict your freedom but to safeguard it. When you understand God’s boundaries are all intended to bring blessing, the only appropriate response is to obey them as an act of love for God.

Free from Worry
Text: Exodus 16:1-36
Series: “Exodus” Part 4
Speaker: Rev. Tan Hock Cheng
Date: 4 Jun 2023
Are you worrying about the future – your health, your job, your family, or your finances?
The history of the people of God is very similar. God wants you to trust in him. Make a decision today not to worry. Corrie ten Boom said, ‘Worrying is carrying tomorrow’s load with today’s strength – carrying two days at once. It is moving into tomorrow ahead of time.’ Trust God and learn to live one day at a time.

Free from Injustice
Text: Exodus 5:1-6:12
Series: “Exodus” Part 3
Speaker: Rev. Tan Hock Cheng
Date: 21 May 2023
Do you care about justice?
Justice is of high value to God. “For I, the Lord, love justice” (Isaiah 61:8). “Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow” (Isaiah 1:17). It should not come as a surprise then that God includes justice on the short list of three things that are close to his heart in Micah 6:8.
Join us this Sunday as we ask God to give us his heart for the victims of injustice, so that we, the Church, might lead the way and pursue justice on behalf of the oppressed, the widow, the orphan, and the enslaved.

Our History
The story of Shekinah began in 1980 when God led a young man named Frankie Lee to repeat his G.C.E. ‘O’ Level examinations at Tiong Bahru Secondary School. Filled with a strong evangelistic fervor, Frankie soon found and trained five schoolmates, two of whom would later become our founding pastors, Andrew Tan and Apelles Poh. Together, they began a Bible study group and named it “Calvary Group of Christ”.
Growth & Movements
With the school’s permission, this group of young pioneers met regularly on Saturday mornings in a classroom for worship, prayer, Bible study and fellowship. They actively witnessed to their classmates and the group soon grew to 50 by 1981. From 1981-1986, the Lord led them to various locations – Tiong Bahru Park and Bo Bo Tan Gardens at Tiong Bahru, the Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) at Outram Park, Bible House at Armenian Street, Apollo Hotel, Furama Hotel and the Boys Brigade Centre.
Turning Points
1987 was a turning point when the group changed its name to Shekinah Assembly of God after her affiliation with the Assemblies of God of Singapore. Pastor Andrew Tan was officially installed as the Senior Pastor and Pastor Apelles Poh as the Lay Pastor. It was in the same year that the Lord provided them a more permanent worship venue at the Singapore Construction House. In 1990, Shekinah was registered with the Registry of Societies. Then in 1997, the Lord led the church through an incredible faith journey where members gave sacrificially to purchase a $1.2 million freehold property at Queensway Shopping Centre.
Leadership Transitions
In 2001, Pastor Andrew Tan moved on to serve in another church, after pastoring Shekinah for 15 years. He was succeeded by his counterpart Pastor Apelles Poh who then led the church as a bi-vocational pastor for 4 years before handing over to Pastor Hock Cheng, a “home-grown” youth, in 2005. Since taking over, Pastor Hock Cheng has led the church to serve collectively as a team through cells; disciple the believers through an “Equipping track”; and develop the leadership base through mentoring.
