How long does it take for one to get used to Hearing Aids?

According to experts, a new hearing aid user takes about several weeks, up to several months to get used to hearing aids. The time taken varies for each individual.

Initially, there will be some sounds that the user will find them difficult to process. That is perfectly normal, as the brain was not used to processing these sounds before the introduction of Hearing Aids.

A few tweaks and adjustments may be needed for the hearing aids during this period. Do not hesitate to consult the Clinician should there be any queries or issues at hand. With patience and time, together with the Clinician’s expertise, the user comfort level will increase with every passing day.

If you know someone with hearing loss with apprehensions to try Hearing Aids due to the reasons above, feel free to approach us!

What should one expect when starting to wearing Hearing Aids?

It is important to know that a Hearing Aid is a device that amplifies the sound to compensate hearing deficiencies, customized to the individual, and it is not a cure for deafness.

Initially, everything will sound strange, and to some extent louder, and maybe uncomfortable. The tonal quality of the sound will be different.

But as one gets used to the Hearing Aids, the difference will gradually become unnoticeable, and the benefits of using Hearing Aids will outweigh the journey of getting used to them.

Alcohol, especially when consumed in huge amounts, is associated to hearing loss.

Research shows that frequent episodes of alcohol-induced hearing loss may lead to permanent damage. This is because excessive drinking damages brain cells, which includes the auditory nerve cells, affecting how you hear.

According to the Vestibular Disorders Association, alcohol is absorbed into the fluid of the inner ear, even after it is no longer present in the blood and the brain.

As the inner ear also monitors balance, excessive drinking also causes balance problems, making people feel dizzy and out of sorts.

Alcohol also causes blood vessels to swell which leads to greater blood flow within the inner ear, and as a result, tinnitus, or ringing in the ears can happen.

If you know of someone who needs help, please advise them to seek a healthcare professional.

What is Speech Therapy for Children?

Speech Therapy for children consists of activities aimed towards improving one’s ability to speak and express language.

These activities usually involve play, sequencing, language-based puzzles and games.

Studies have shown that children who need speech therapy have the most success when they start it early and practice at home with a loved one.

Early detection and intervention are important to prevent speech delays in children which can interfere with their growth and development.

Do visit a healthcare provider if you think your child might have difficulties with language or comprehension.
