Refusing to be defeated by disasters, affected communities in the Philippines have always been determined to 'bangon', or rise again. To celebrate this enduring strength and deep-rooted friendship between Singapore and the Philippines, the Singapore Red Cross organised an exhibition highlighting their collaborative efforts in supporting vulnerable groups affected by crises in the Philippines.
The exhibition featured notable partners including the Philippine Red Cross, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, International Committee of the Red Cross, Gawad Kalinga, REACT Bantayan, Nazarene Compassionate Ministries and Assisi Development Foundation.
The event was graced by the President of the Republic of Singapore, His Excellency Tharman Shanmugaratnam, and Spouse of the President, Mrs. Jane Ittogi Shanmugaratnam. They were joined by Minister for Sustainability and the Environment, Ms. Grace Fu; Ambassador of Singapore to the Philippines, H.E. Constance See; Members of Parliament, Henry Kwek and Mariam Jaafar; Mayor of Makati, Honourable Abigail Binay; Philippine Red Cross Chairman and CEO, Mr. Richard Gordon; and Philippine Red Cross Secretary General, Dr. Gwendolyn Pang.
In response to the devastating impact of Tropical Cyclone Yagi and the Southwest Monsoon on communities in Southeast Asia, particularly in Cambodia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR), Thailand, the Philippines and Viet Nam, the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) will be launching a public fundraising appeal to support relief and recovery operations in these affected countries, with details to be released in the following days.
The SRC will also contribute SGD 50,000 to support on-going humanitarian efforts by the Hội Chữ thập đỏ Việt Nam - Viet Nam Red Cross Society (VNRC), following Tropical Cyclone Yagi. A response team from SRC will be deployed to Viet Nam to assist with relief operations, as well as to conduct needs assessment for the affected communities.

🍕Pizza Party with Rajah & Tann🍕
Last Saturday, volunteers from Rajah & Tann visited our Young Hearts Centre in Nee Soon. The Young Hearts programme fosters self-reliance and empowers Children and Young Persons (CYPs) living in public rental housing by providing them with access to out-of-reach opportunities. The volunteers packed gifts of backpacks filled with essential sports gear for our sports-loving children and wrote uplifting messages to remind the kids of their value. The Young Hearts enjoyed a pizza feast, followed by fun games and an impromptu football session. A highlight of the day was a Q&A session conducted by Rajah & Tann’s lawyers where the kids had the chance to ask their burning questions and learn more about the work of lawyers.

It is because of our instructors the Singapore Red Cross is able to spread the knowledge of First Aid, create awareness of CPR during our roadshows, and inspire the next generation to come forth and save lives.
Thank you, instructors. We appreciate you!

On August 14, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), announced that the recent surge in mpox cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and several other African countries represents a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC) under the International Health Regulations (2005) (IHR).
In Singapore, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has assessed the immediate public health risk of this outbreak as low. Nonetheless, increased vigilance and maintenance of practices of infection prevention measures remains crucial.
Here’s what you need to know about this.
Thank you to our XM for generously sponsoring 50 of our senior beneficiaries for the Gin Thye Culture Workshop experience. Our seniors had so much fun, and it was truly a unique and memorable experience for all. Your support means the world to us!
